At first glance, “The Recruit” may look like your standard espionage drama, but beneath its splashy action scenes and quippy one-liners that’s not the case. That’s as true in Season 2 as it was in Season 1.
“The anti-hero is definitely played out at this point, at least until it gets reinvented. I think audiences want to root for something,” showrunner and executive producer Alexi Hawley told TheWrap, noting that Noah Centineo’s Owen Hendricks isn’t a Jason Bourne or James Bond figure.
“He’s not trying to be cool. I’m very lucky with Nathan Fillion on ‘The Rookie’ as well in having two leads who really are not afraid of falling down or being the butt of a joke,” Hawley said of his new CIA hire who’s constantly in over his head. “You root for that guy because you can relate to that guy. January is a noteworthy month for one of our most beloved goofballs, high school hotshots, and rookie lawyers because Noah Centineo is finally returning to the screen. This time around, however, it isn’t as a completely new character in a new project. Centineo will reprise two of his widely loved roles, and they couldn’t be any more different.
While the actor has proven time and again that he has a wide array of acting skills, January will put two widely different projects right next to each other and leave them up for comparison. The rom-com series Xo, Kitty, and the action series The Recruit are two of Netflix’s biggest releases in January.

There’s a man with a machete in Noah Centineo’s tree.
“Like 35 yards away from me, a guy’s in a tree just casually chopping off branches,” the actor tells Tudum — quite calmly, in fact. He’s realized the man is neither a crazed fan nor an intrepid paparazzo. He’s a gardener. Potential crisis averted.
Miami-born Centineo is no stranger to attention. After breaking out big-time as sweet high school boyfriend Peter Kavinsky in the To All the Boys trilogy, he headlined rom-coms Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and The Perfect Date, and he starred in DC Comics blockbuster Black Adam. Now, he stars as unlikely CIA operative Owen Hendricks in Netflix action thriller series The Recruit.

"The killer... is one of us!" Republic Pictures has revealed a trailer for a murder mystery comedy called Reunion, from director Chris Nelson. This one is set for a direct-to-vod release in June this summer. After a murder at a high school reunion party, the remaining guests are trapped in a snowbound mansion, not knowing who to trust. They race to uncover which one of their old classmates is the killer before they're all iced out for good. Starring Lil Rel Howery, Billy Magnussen, Jillian Bell, Jamie Chung, Michael Hitchcock, Nina Dobrev, Chace Crawford. This just a movie version of that streaming series The Afterparty, which is already on Season 2. Looks extra cheap, and cheesy, and definitely something to skip over on the VOD options when choosing what to watch. // Continue Reading ›...

A simple Google search of "the best rom-coms of all time" will take you down a nostalgic hole of '90s and early-'00s movies like "10 Things I Hate About You," "While You Were Sleeping," and "P.S. I Love You." These classics, among many others, have shaped how we view love on screen. But through these films, we've learned what love looks like through white protagonists; many Bipoc communities have failed to see themselves reflected. While we saw Latine actresses like Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Milian make their mark early on in romantic comedy movies, for years the entertainment industry has undervalued and underrepresented Latine communities on screen and behind the camera.

With season 7 beginning on March 29th, 2023, the Riverdale cast has welcomed back some familiar faces while also introducing several new characters. Based on the Archie Comics, Riverdale began in 2017 as a simple crime drama and followed the lives of Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Jughead Jones and Veronica Lodge as they investigated the death of their classmate, Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines). While the murder mystery formula in season 1 was a success, the show has since garnered interest for exploring other genres (such as the supernatural or horror) and coming up with the wildest and most fanciful subplots.

Claws-out high school drama has inspired some pretty memorable movies. Youthful touchstones like Heathers, Cruel Intentions, and Mean Girls take the intensity of hormones and the cruelty of high school students, and mix them with snappy, era-appropriate dialogue and up-and-coming stars. It’s a potent cocktail that when mixed just right yields delicious results. Netflix is looking to follow that template with their new high school revenge comedy Do Revenge, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the co-writer of Thor: Love and Thunder who previously helmed Netflix’s Someone Great and created MTV’s Sweet/Vicious.
Will Do Revenge become the 2020s defacto teens-behaving-badly comedy? Only time will tell, but Do Revenge’s cast is enticing enough to suggest that the alchemy may be right for another mean girl magnum opus. Not sure where you’ve seen some of these fresh-faced stars before? Read below to find out.

When the subject of homegrown Kentucky production companies comes up these days, the first name out of anyone’s mouth is Wrigley Media Group, which is transforming an abandoned multiplex in the city of Lexington into a full-service state-of-the-art art 52,000-sq.-ft. studio complex, dubbed Wrigley Woodhill Studios.
Currently, it has a single soundstage, which is hosting the second season of the group’s nationally syndicated courtroom reality show “Relative Justice,” starring Judge Rhonda Wills. But when the second phase of the renovation is finished in early 2023, it will be the largest studio facility in Kentucky, with room to host outside productions drawn to the commonwealth by its revived film and TV incentive, featuring a 30-35 refundable tax credit.
“We developed ‘Relative Justice’ and sold it into most of the country, and then we had to make it,” says Ross Babbit, Wrigley Media’s executive producer and chief content officer.

When the Kentucky legislature made the commonwealth’s 30-35 film and TV tax credit nonrefundable in 2018, it cast a pall over the careers of local industry pros including Louisville native Emily Blevins, who had racked up credits as a production manager or producer on a dozen Lifetime movies shot in the Bluegrass state.
Although 428 million in credits had been approved under the old version of the incentive, which paid cash to productions for any credits they earned that were not eaten up by their tax bill, there was no guarantee the projects that had applied for the credits would actually shoot in Kentucky. And once those approved projects were completed, the jobs would be gone, because Kentucky would no longer be able to compete against production hotbeds with stronger incentives such as Georgia, its neighbor to the south.
“We were going to have to move or change our careers,” says Blevins.

We can thank "Saturday Night Live" for Netflix's latest bout of creativity. The streamer caught the newest episode of the show - hosted by Jerrod Carmichael - this past weekend, and took notes on a sketch that inspired the platform to add a new category for its subscribers.
"SNL"'s music video-themed sketch - which featured cast members Pete Davidson and Chris Redd, as well as actor Simon Rex and guest performer Gunna - proposed a campaign to only make "short ass movie[s]." To which Netflix quoted-tweeted a video of the sketch on April 4 and wrote "good idea" alongside a link to their newest page also titled, "Short-Ass Movies."
What Is Netflix's "Short-Ass Movies" Category?
Per Netflix's website, the "Short-Ass Movies" category includes a lengthy list of films that roughly have an air time of 90 minutes. The page is also organized by genres such as comedies, rom-coms, thrillers, action,...

Zack Snyder’s zombie epic “Army of the Dead” is off to a strong start on Netflix, as the streamer reports (via Deadline) that the movie is expected to be viewed by 72 million households over its first four weeks of release. That number puts “Army of the Dead” in the number 10 spot on the list of biggest Netflix original openings. “Army of the Dead” opened to the same household views as George Clooney’s “The Midnight Sky,” which launched over the Christmas holiday last year. It’s important to note that Netflix recognizes a “view” as any subscriber who watched two minutes of the movie’s runtime.
The strong opening for “Army of the Dead” is good news for Snyder, who intends to launch a new franchise for the streamer with his Dave Bautista-starring action movie. Two “Army”-connected films are already in development at Netflix, one is an...

Noah Centineo is leaving teen dramas behind ... for now.
The Fosters and To All The Boys franchise star has landed the lead role on an upcoming CIA drama at Netflix.
Deadline first reported the news, which also revealed the actor would have a producing credit on the series.
The eight-episode show comes from Entertainment One, Doug Liman's Hypnotic and creator, and showrunner Alexi Hawley (The Rookie).
The project is currently untitled, and centers on a young lawyer at the CIA (Centineo) who gets entangled in dangerous international power plays when a former agency asset threatens to expose her relationship with the CIA — unless they help clear her name in a serious crime.
It's an interesting hook, and one that should be a big hit with the Netflix audience.
If the streamer has taught us anything, it's that it can keep viewers engaged for every single beat of its roster of drama series.
