The project, from FX Productions, follows a large, tight-knit family that begins to unravel when a sister (Olsen) starts communicating with a voice no one else can hear, forcing them to confront long-buried secrets.
We hear that Edwards will portray family patriarch Paul Bosco and Smith-Cameron will portray his wife, Francesca, in series regular roles should the pilot get picked up to series. They join Milioti, who we revealed yesterday will portray Olsen’s character’s sister.
Seven Sisters is executive produced by Will Arbery, who wrote the pilot; Sean Durkin, who will direct it; and Garrett Basch. If the pilot goes forward, it would mark Basch’s fifth series for FX, where his company Dive has a long-standing first-look deal, following Devs, Reservation Dogs, What We Do in the Shadows...

It's Hollywood's biggest night! The 2025 Oscars are happening as I type these words and, quite possibly, as you're reading them. The awards are being handed out and all of the expectations, surprises, and great moments that come along with the Academy Awards are unfolding. We've got a full list of Oscar winners for you to check out right here. Conan O'Brien is hosting this year's ceremony, with a number of different presenters taking the stage. But who is the announcer for tonight's event? And why does he sound so familiar?
That voice you're hearing between awards and heading into commercial breaks belongs to none other than Nick Offerman. Many viewers probably know him best as Ron Swanson from the beloved sitcom "Parks and Recreation." His voice is distinct, to say the least, and those who put together the ceremony decided that he would be the right man to help add...

The live service trend has been growing within the gaming industry in recent years. Even with stories of big successes and failures, not every developer is eager to follow this trend. Josef Fares, founder of Hazelight Studios and director of It Takes Two and Split Fiction, has made it clear that his studio will never create a live service game.
What a valid and true thing to say. | Image Credit: Hazelight Studios
Fares and Hazelight Studios are returning to storefronts on 6 March 2025 for the release of Spit Fiction. The director behind 2021’s Game of The Year (It Takes Two) believes that a balance must exist between being driven by financial success and creativity. This is something he refuses to compromise on for Hazelight.

“Silo” Season 2 came to a fiery end last week — delivering a finale designed to leave viewers with plenty of questions about the Apple TV+ sci-fi drama’s next steps and the fates of both Bernard (Tim Robbins) and Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson). The series has already been renewed for a third season, as well as a fourth that is being billed as its last, which means fans will get to see its latest mysteries resolved eventually. When that will be is unclear, as Apple has yet to announce a return date for “Silo.”
Fortunately, while “Silo” has an atmosphere, tone, and look that are entirely its own, there are a few series that scratch many of the same itches as it. Here are six shows, in particular, that we here at TheWrap recommend you watch while you wait for “Silo” Season 3.

Another classic Isaac Asimov science fiction novel is getting a live-action adaptation, with a crack duo of writers bringing The Caves of Steel to the big screen. Isaac Asimov is one of the most prolific sci-fi writers of all-time, alongside other notable authors in the genre, like William Gibson, Frank Herbert, Richard Matheson, and Gene Wolfe. Many of his works have been adapted to the big and small screen in the past, including Apple TV+'s Foundation, the Will Smith-led I, Robot, and Bicentennial Man starring Robin Williams.
Per Deadline, Asimov's 1953 sci-fi detective novel, The Caves of Steel is being adapted into a feature film. The movie is in the early stages of development, but the project has found its writers. John Ridley, the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind 12 Years a Slave, is teaming up with Cheo Hodari Coker to co-write the script. Coker is best known for creating Marvel's vastly underappreciated Luke Cage series,...

Quick Links 'Devs' Is a Great Show Because of Its Ambition Devs Gives Its Audience Nothing to Latch Onto 'Devs' Is a Sci-fi Show for Our Time
Few directors can pull off heightened sci-fi like Alex Garland, except for the times he cannot. But this isn't about the movie Men, which, by the way, is somehow too complicated and dumb at the same time. In between the heights of Ex Machina and Annihilation exists a little show called Devs, which is just the right amount of over-complicated and dumb. Devs works so well because it is Garland at his most Garland, leaning into the sleek aesthetic and detached performances of its cast. It's highbrow television, not necessarily because of what it has to say, but more because of how it says it.
Aside from its science-fiction style, Devs is also an exploration of violence and its links to technology,...

A24 recently released a trailer for Alex Garland’s new movie, ‘Warfare,’ which he co-directed with Ray Mendoza.
This film is a departure from the dystopian themes of Garland’s previous work, ‘Civil War,’ and instead transports viewers to the intense battlegrounds of 2006 Iraq. The film’s release is scheduled for 2025, although an exact date is yet to be confirmed.
Unlike his earlier project which reimagined a second American Civil War, Garland, alongside Mendoza who also served as the military supervisor on ‘Civil War,’ crafted a narrative set against the backdrop of real historical events.
‘Warfare’ offers an in-depth look at the experiences of an American Navy SEALs platoon stationed within an Iraqi family’s home, providing a strategic vantage point to oversee US movements through hostile territories.
The storytelling in ‘Warfare’ is unique as it unfolds in real-time, reflecting the personal memories of those who were there.

By the time director Alex Garland’s film Civil War (you can read our review Here) was released earlier this year, Garland was already working on another war movie called Warfare, co-directing it with Ray Mendoza, who served as the military supervisor for Civil War. Garland and Mendoza also wrote the screenplay together. While Civil War was a dystopian film that imagined a new Civil War breaking out in the United States, Warfare is set during a real war, the story taking viewers back to 2006 Iraq. A24 will be giving the film a theatrical release sometime in 2025, but even though a specific release date has not yet been announced, the first trailer for the film has been unveiled. You can watch it in the embed above.
Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, overwatching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory.

Atlus has long been known for its beloved Persona series, so when it announced the release of Metaphor: ReFantazio, the initial assumption was that it would bear similarities to its previous games. However, the developers surprised everyone and opted for a radically different setting: a medieval high fantasy world with unique combat mechanics.

After the game’s release on October 10, which received a positive response from the community, many began to wonder what drove the developers to pivot in such a different direction. Few cinematic characters have left as big of an impression as Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Weaver’s iconic “Alien” survivor, who led four films in the franchise and left behind some massive shoes to fill for everyone who’s come since. If you think the most innovative science fiction shows are found on the Syfy Channel, think again: these days, they’re more likely on Apple TV+.
Over the past decade, the premium streamer has quietly amassed a library of sci-fi shows that offer new ways to explore the genre.
These shows lean on the classics but are largely shaped by how we’re experiencing life in the present moment.

Apple TV+ is definitely not the only champion of sci-fi today, but its popular shows Foundation and Silo are great examples of two new directions the genre seems to be moving in.
Hard Sci-Fi Versus Soft Sci-Fi
Just like other broad entertainment genres, sci-fi contains a ton of different subgenres depending on how nerdy you want to get. The biggest of these subcategories are hard and soft sci-fi.

Season 2 of Netflix's comedy-drama Beef has received a green light with an entirely new cast. The series created by Lee Sung Jin in cooperation with A24 was critically acclaimed upon release, but the second season will only bring back the team behind the camera and renew the faces in front of it.
Beef Season 2 will also shorten its running time, going from ten to eight episodes in a 30-minute format. As Variety reports, there's an official synopsis already for the second season which will star Oscar Isaac, Cailee Spaeny, Carey Mulligan, and Charles Melton, among others. There's no confirmation as to where it will take place, but the plot description goes as follows:
A young couple witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner.

The much-anticipated port of Red Dead Redemption is set to release on PC on October 29th. After hearing the news, players are super excited to play, especially alongside its beloved Undead Nightmare expansion. The release promises players an immersive narrative and engaging combat but now with enhanced graphics and improved performance.

However, when the recommended system requirements were revealed, players were surprised. Many even began to question how a 14-year-old game requires such high specs, particularly the requirement for an Rtx 2070 Gpu. This is baffling, especially since the game was originally released in 2010 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Video game movies rightfully don't have a great reputation, and that goes double for live-action adaptations. A medium that gives the player the ability to do things impossible in real life naturally doesn't always transition smoothly to a more realistic-looking setting that the viewer can't influence. That being said, it's been done successfully before. Pokmon Detective Pikachu was a weird choice for a Pokmon adaptation, but it currently has a respectable 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog defied expectations by being a genuinely fun family film, and its sequel followed suit.
Before Pikachu and Sonic made their live-action debuts, though, a lesser-known and on the surface, more mundane video game hero had a live-action feature film of his own. Phoenix Wright starred in the 2012 Ace Attorney film, directed by Takashi Miike, one of Japan's most famous auteurs. While the camp and storyline cuts sometimes work against this film, it's...

Civil War features quite a few actors who have worked with director Alex Garland on previous projects. After beginning his career as a novelist and screenwriter, Garland made his directorial debut with the 2014 sci-fi movie Ex Machina, which he followed with the Jeff VanderMeer adaptation Annihilation in 2018 and original movies, Men and Civil War in 2022 and 2024 respectively. He Also created, wrote, and directed the 2020 FX miniseries Devs, which ran for one season comprising eight episodes. Although Garland has a growing filmography, he does not tend to work with the same lead actors multiple times, however.
After Garland cast Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander in Ex Machina, Natalie Portman in Annihilation, and Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear in Men, the director tapped Kirsten Dunst to be at the center of Civil War. While he usually collaborates with new actors for his headliners, he has made a habit of featuring of recruiting...

With the blockbuster success of her 2024 movies Civil War and Alien: Romulus, Cailee Spaeny has proven herself to be the breakout box office star of the year. Spaenys rise to stardom has been a long time coming. She made her on-screen debut in 2018 with one of the lead roles in Pacific Rim Uprising alongside John Boyega. While it didnt match its predecessors critical or commercial success, the Pacific Rim sequel did put Spaeny on Hollywoods radar and led to starring roles in Devs, Mare of Easttown, and The Craft: Legacy.
In 2023, Spaeny scored her biggest break yet with the role of Priscilla Presley in Sofia Coppolas critically acclaimed biopic Priscilla. While Priscilla garnered plenty of praise and awards for Spaeny including the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival it still wasnt a big box office success. Just in time for Judgment Day, Netflix has a new installment in the “Terminator” franchise for fans of the iconic, long-running sci-fi action franchise. This time, however, you won’t see any familiar faces — the series is animated. However, you might recognize some of the voices, so we’ve put together a handy guide to the “Terminator Zero” cast.
You won’t see Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese or Arnold’s T-800 in this story — it introduces a new timeline and all new characters to go with it. Set in 1997, Japan, “Terminator Zero” focuses on a developer named Malcolm Lee, who is hard at work on another AI system to compete with Skynet and save the human race. Naturally, a Terminator unit is sent back in time to target him and his three children, while a soldier from the future is sent back with a mission of her own.

Cailee Spaeny has joined Netflix's Beef season 2, which could potentially redeem her previous TV show's reception. Beef season 2 will feature Spaeny alongside Charles Melton. After a mixed reception for The First Lady, Beef season 2 offers Spaeny a chance to shine on TV once again.
Cailee Spaeny has been cast in a key role in Beef season 2 on Netflix, and it can make up for the mixed response to a different TV series she starred in. Lee Sung Jin initially conceived Beef as a limited series that wasnt supposed to have any follow-up seasons. But when it became one of Netflixs most popular shows, the streamer decided to rework it into an anthology series, with each season focusing on a different feud between different characters.

With Alien: Romulus, Cailee Spaeny finds herself up against an iconic menagerie of monsters. As she tells us, though, she's always been drawn to the dark.
Cailee Spaeny came out of nowhere, and suddenly she is everywhere.
Maybe she broke your heart in HBO’s Mare Of Easttown as the teenage mother lured into the woods to die. She was in Alex Garland’s philosophical sci-fi series Devs as tech genius Lyndon, and starred in Garland’s intense gut-punch of a film, Civil War. Most likely you will know her as the lead in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination: she was the actor brave enough to take on a role that would not only be heavily scrutinised, but would also require her to apply cat-eyeliner, in one take, without a mirror. Her characters are memorable because they exist at the extremes of human experience,...

Nearly 50 years later, Alien’s Xenomorph remains one of the greatest and most terrifying monster designs of all time. With its gnarled limbs, double snapping jaws, slimy skin, and propensity for sneaking around in dark corners, it’s a creature that still inspires awe and fear. And it’s none more scary than when conjured practically – with real, tangible puppet effects. So, that’s exactly what filmmaker Fede Alvarez chose for Alien: Romulus, his new face-hugging, chest-bursting horror, aiming to bridge the tense terror of Alien with the all-out war thrills of Aliens.

In The First Descendant, grinding is the name of the game. Void Fragments are just one of the many materials you need to min-max your character, but complaints are rising left and right as it’s not the easiest to obtain them.

The old adage that good things come to those who wait certainly applies to screenwriters Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, the married duo responsible for the latest TV adaptation of James Clavell’s epic 1975 novel “Shōgun.”

Keep your big-budget extravaganzas and intellectual properties! These days, Hollywood actors are breathlessly lining up to join the Benoit Blanc Cinematic Universe. Ever since Rian Johnson singled-handedly revived the big screen whodunnit with 2019's "Knives Out," the mid-budget murder-mystery series has become the hottest destination for rising stars, A-listers, and under-sung veterans of the industry to flex their acting muscles as the various colorful characters that occupy this world. Even the property's shift from the theatrical market to the streaming landscape three years later with Netflix's "Glass Onion" wasn't enough to deter folks from flocking to these movies like they're the next "Dune" sequel.
Following the announcement of Johnson's third "Knives Out Mystery" last month (now officially titled "Wake Up Dead Man"), it's become a daily guessing game trying to figure out who will sign on to match wits with Daniel Craig's sharp-witted Southern sleuth Blanc next.

Civil War, directed by Alex Garland, offers an accurate portrayal of war photographers and their moral quandaries. The film was shot on-location in Atlanta, Georgia, showcasing different filming locations that add to the road-trip feel. Despite revolving around an American conflict, production for Civil War was eventually moved to London, England for post-production needs.
A powerful war epic written and directed by Alex Garland, Civil War received some backlash for its execution. In Garland's other fare, science-fiction elements take center stage, creating off-beat and somewhat-surreal atmospheres. That approach was true not just of the filmmaker's feature-length projects like Ex Machina and Annihilation, but the TV series Devs as well. Instead of focusing on world-building, however, Garland's Civil War is an accurate portrait of war photographers at large. The job's complexities, thrills, and moral quandaries are put on full display thanks to Kirsten Dunst's Lee Smith, a renowned photojournalist.

Rian Johnson's Benoit Blanc detective series continues to be one of the hottest tickets for working actors, as proven by the most recent bit of casting news for the follow-up to "Glass Onion." According to Deadline, "Challengers" and "La Chimera" star Josh O'Connor will appear in the upcoming mystery movie, which we recently learned will feature the excellent title "Wake Up Dead Man." Alongside O'Connor, "Civil War" and "Priscilla" breakout star Cailee Spaeny is also set to appear. As of publication time, we don't know yet whether they'll play murder victims, suspects, or some other role in Johnson's next whodunnit.
Aside from star Daniel Craig, Spaeny and O'Connor are the first two actors to be announced as part of the project, and they're a pretty buzzy duo to kick things off. British actor O'Connor had already earned accolades for (among other projects) his turns on royal drama "The Crown...

When Escape from Tarkov was first released to a select group of players back in 2016, no one knew it would become a cultural phenomenon in the Fps space. Known for its unforgiving and realistic world design, it’s not a title the casual gamer would instantly pick up.
Battlestate Games is banking on this fact or is trying to, at the very least. The developer has added a fifth game edition, the Unheard Edition, and included a game mode that has left many fans feeling betrayed and annoyed. Especially those who have already purchased the previous editions!

Warning: This post contains mild spoilers for Civil War
Men is Garland's ambiguous, harrowing film filled with dread. Civil War exceeds Men but lacks the eerie nature of Annihilation. Ex Machina, Garland's best, delves into human-machine dynamics.
Alex Garland's films have had quite an impact, and his latest, Civil War, is no different, which makes ranking them a tall order. The filmmaker made his screenwriting debut with the Danny Boyle-directed 28 Days Later, and has gone on to write a plethora of movies and TV shows, including Devs, Never Let Me Go, and Sunshine. While he largely sticks to sci-fi, Garland has done plenty of horror, among other genres.
Garland made his directorial debut in 2014 with Ex Machina and has since directed three more films. When it comes to Garland’s movies, they’re always layered, stylish, and filled with themes and moments that can be dissected and...
