Always stuck between a rock and a hard place, circumstances are about to get even tighter for June (Elisabeth Moss) on Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

IndieWire has exclusively confirmed that after two season of 13 episodes, “The Handmaid’s Tale” is returning to 10 episodes next season. The news comes after details for the show’s fourth season were listed on the official website for the City of Toronto, outlining current and upcoming projects filming in the metropolitan area. But fear not, fans, showrunner Bruce Miller said, it’s all part of the master plan.

“From my point of view, [the decision] was 100% creative,” Miller said in an interview with IndieWire about the move, explaining that the idea began to unfold in the wake of Season 3, as the writers determined the story for the season to come.

It’s nothing new for the series, which launched to critical-acclaim in 2017 and made do with 10 episodes for its first season.

An annual New Year's Eve game among friends turns into a deadly fight for survival in the official trailer for Midnight Kiss, the new installment of Blumhouse and Hulu's horror anthology series Into the Dark.

Directed by Carter Smith (The Ruins) from a screenplay by Erlingur Thoroddsen, Midnight Kiss stars Augustus Prew (The Morning Show), Scott Evans (Grace and Frankie), Ayden Mayeri (Veep), Lukas Gage (Euphoria), Chester Lockhart (Glamorous), and Adam Faison (Everything's Gonna Be Ok).

Synopsis: "A group of longtime gay best friends and their resident fruit fly head to a beautiful desert home to celebrate New Year's Eve. One of their annual traditions is to play Midnight Kiss, a sexy but ultimately dangerous challenge to find that special someone to help you ring in the New Year.

Delta Rae had some big news they were keeping under wraps until the timing was right. Signed to Big Machine since 2015, they had been released from their record deal after months of negotiating, an announcement they planned to make at the start of July.

“We had a whole timeline of a year planned out in our minds,” says Brittany Hölljes, one of Delta Rae’s four lead singers along with her brothers Ian and Eric and childhood friend Elizabeth Hopkins. “We were holding on to the information until July 1st.

There are some big changes coming to Netflix in July.

The young-skewing network has confirmed the fate of multiple bubble dramas, and it's good news.

All American, The 100, Roswell New Mexico, and In The Dark have all been renewed for additional seasons.

That means every freshman drama on the network this season is coming back for the 2019-20 TV season, while The 100 is returning for its seventh season.

The only shows ending are Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and iZombie. Those veteran dramas were given final seasons shortly after their renewals were announced last year.

"As we begin to plan for the 2019-20 season, we’re thrilled to have this roster of 14 exceptionally creative and distinctive series, including all five first-year shows, as the foundation on which to continue to build the multiplatform future of The CW," CW boss Mark Pedowitz said in a statement.

Come this May, there will be no cancellations at the CW. The network just renewed the last four scripted series, which had been awaiting word on their fate: freshmen All American, In The Dark and Roswell, New Mexico for second seasons, and veteran The 100 for a seventh season. That brings the total scripted series renewed by the CW for the 2019-2020 season to staggering 14, including all five freshman series.

This is a record for the network, up from the 12 scripted shows the CW brought back this season as it expanded from five to six nights of programming. The size of the CW returning slate is on par with a Big 4 network; NBC for example brought back 13 scripted series this season. This also marks the first time the CW has renewed all of its freshman shows.

Good ol' Murphy is back and still up to no good on In The Dark Season 1 Episode 2, "Mommy Issues," and it offered a lot in terms of better establishing Murphy's humanity, while also creating even more mystery around Tyson's death. 

The first scene showed us a terrible memory of Murphy's, the night that she got mugged.

It was pretty brutal; there was blood everywhere, and her terrified screams were hard to hear, but then, enter Tyson -- a wonderful, unassuming knight in shining armor who knocked out the mugger, saving Murphy's life.

We get treated with more of the fabulous dynamic between Murphy and her roommate and all-around best gal: Jess. These two get funnier and funnier each time they interact, and it would be great to see how their friendship came to be.

The CW premiered In The Dark on Thursday night, and the new series did not get off to the best of starts. 

In The Dark Season 1 Episode 1 scored 0.9 million total viewers and a 0.2 rating, down from Legacies Season 1's average in the slot this season (1 million total viewers/0.3 rating).

Granted, Legacies had a stronger Supernatural as a lead-in. Supernatural matched series lows on the night with 1.3 million total viewers and a 0.3 rating. 

Over on CBS, The Big Bang Theory (11.9 million/1.9 rating), Young Sheldon (10.3 million/1.4 rating), Mom (7.8 million/1.1 rating), Fam (5 million/0.7 rating), and S.W.A.T. (4.7 million/0.7 rating) were down from their last fresh episodes. 

Over on ABC, Grey's Anatomy (6.8 million/1.5 rating) and For The People (3.1 million/0.6 rating) were steady with their most recent ratings, while Station 19 (5.3 million/0.9 rating) was down a tenth.

In The Dark is a surprising series for The CW. 

Among a slew of superhero shows, soapy dramas, and supernatural flair, In The Dark is the most grounded in reality of the network's entire roster of dramas.

Is that a bad thing for the show's long-term prospects? I'm not sure, but it's certainly a breath of fresh air for viewers tiring of the network churning out similar shows. 

Starring Perry Mattfield (Shameless) as a blind woman who is thrust into a dangerous search for her best friend Tyson after she seemingly finds his lifeless body in the alley next to her apartment building, the show tells a convincing tale of a blind woman pushed to her limit.

It borrows some elements from Veronica Mars to help unspool the mystery at hand, and that's a good thing.

While Code Red previously released a limited edition Blu-ray of the 1977 horror movie, Kino Lorber is teaming up with Code Red to distribute another release of their Kingdom of the Spiders Blu-ray (with different cover art) this March.

Those who enter the woods known as Devil's Den don't usually make it out alive, but where others find death, one young man finds redemption in The Dark, the feature film debut from director Justin P. Lange. If you missed The Dark in theaters, you can soon add it to your home media collection, as Dark Sky Films will release the horror movie on DVD in January.

The Brit List, the annual collection of unproduced UK screenplays, has unveiled its 2018 line up.

Now in its 10th year, the list highlights film projects voted for by an anonymous group of film industry professionals from more than 90 companies, including agents, financiers, producers and distributors.

This year there are 18 projects on the list. Topping them is Phillip Morgan’s Benny In The Dark, a supernatural thriller set in the 1950s, which received a total of nine recommendations. The film is set up at Tessa Ross and Juliette Howell’s House Productions.

How did you get involved with The Dark? What did you think about the story and your character when you first read the script?

Toby Nichols: I got the audition to play Alex from my agent and I was fairly excited to play such a complex character. The day of the callback I was really sick and my mom had me under a sheet getting steamed all morning so that I would be able to talk when Justin and Nadia called me on Skype.

There is a monster inside of all of us. A monster made out of pain, frustration, and fear. A monster fed by neglect, trauma, and anger that rears its ugly head when we get tired of fighting. In director Justin Lange's debut feature, The Dark, that monster is a literal one. A beast borne of trauma and anger that feeds on the flesh of the wicked from its home deep in the forest near Devil's Den, and the beast is hungry. The Dark is the story of Mina, a hideous undead monster who lives in an abandoned house in the woods that has been the subject of folktales for ages. This was my second year attending the festival, but it has already been established as one of my favorite annual trips. This year, I managed to cram 11 screenings into the weekend adventure. Here are my thoughts on the poignant slow burn The Dark, the Argentinian haunting Terrified, and New Zealand comedy Mega Time Squad.

The Dark: At a slow and haunting pace, The Dark unfolds the story of two damaged and disfigured children when their lives unexpectedly intersect. Mina (Nadia Alexander) has been hiding in a portion of the woods declared haunted since tragedy befell her. Hello, readers! October is only a few hours away now, and beyond the fact that most of us have been counting down to the official start of everyone’s favorite month, it also means that we have a brand new batch of horror and sci-fi releases to look forward to on digital and VOD platforms in the coming weeks.

Easily the busiest day of October (and possibly even all of 2018), there are 11 different movies hitting various platforms on October 2nd, with highlights including The First Purge, Tales From the Hood 2, Sleep No More and Molly. On October 5th, one of my favorite films of 2018, Heavy Trip, is making its digital debut, and Knuckleball, featuring Michael Ironside, comes home the same day as well.

Netflix is keeping very busy throughout October, too, with a variety of films and genre-related series that fans are certainly going to want to check out in the coming weeks.

Toronto After Dark have announced the final films on this year's roster. Leading the pack is the Canadian Premiere of Julius Avery's WWII horror flick Overlord.    There is also an impressive amount of Canadian films in this back half. Justin McConnell's Lifechanger, Chad Archibald's I'll Take Your Dead, the World Premiere of Ray Xue's Extracurricular and Corey Stanton's Robbery are all local films made by local people.    Justin P. Lange's debut feature film The Dark is coming to town. The closing gala this year will be Brett Simmons' You Might Be The Killer. San Sebastian — Smart genre, zombies and throwbacks to the ’70s and ‘80s are some of the current trends in genre cinema, according to some specialists in the field. It’s a cyclical dynamic now offering meaningful box office hits such as Corin Hardy’s “The Nun” or Ari Aster’s “Hereditary.” Genre cinema always attracts the attention of industry players. These are some of them.

An auteur-driven trend commands greatest consensus among experts. Matteo Lovadina, CEO of Paris-based sales and co-production company Reel Suspects, observed that some great examples recently of genre film have, “thanks to their clever storytelling,” been able to attract both auteur and genre audiences.

“Films like Joachim Trier’s ‘Thelma,’ Jordan Peele’s ‘Get Out’, David Robert Mitchell’s ‘It Follows’ or ‘Hereditary,’ have brought genre cinema again into focus and restored a certain credit to this hidden part of the cinematic world,” Lovadina observed.

Here’s an interesting trailer for a solid-looking horror film called The Dark. The story centers around a monstrous young woman named Mina who stalks the forest where she was murdered… and eats people.

Anytime some unfortunate soul enters her area, they are quickly dispatched and become her feast. But when she stumbles across a young boy named Alex in the back of a car who shows signs of clear and horrifying abuse, she can’t bring herself to do away with him. Rather, she becomes his protector while trying to protect her own little world. As police and locals search for Alex to help bring him home, their own growing relationship seems to be changing Mina in ways she never thought possible.

Signature Entertainment has unveiled the official trailer for a horror film titled The Dark, from Austria, an English-language feature that just play at FrightFest in the UK. The film has quite a unique premise: an undead teenage girl befriends a blind boy that she meets in a forest she haunts and hunts in. Both have been victims of unimaginable abuse, and each finds solace in the other. The horror is described as "transfixing, unnerving masterpiece" and a "haunting and deeply intense atmospheric film about love, monsters and revenge that is being compared to the spine-chilling Let The Right One In." Just before Halloween, The Dark will show in several theatres, in North America. The Dark was shot in northern Ontario.
