Season three of Bridgerton ruled the streaming charts for a second straight week, holding onto most of its premiere week audience and racking up more than 2 billion minutes of viewing.
A pair of sci-fi films, Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas and Dune: Part Two, also had pretty strong showings in the week of May 20-26, and Max’s Hacks and Hulu’s Under the Bridge entered the rankings as they neared the end of their seasons.
Bridgerton had 2.19 billion minutes of viewing for the week, down just 21 percent from 2.76 billion for the previous seven days. The period drama had almost double the viewing time of the second-place show, Grey’s Anatomy (1.1 billion) — which, like Bridgerton, comes from mega-producer Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland. Kids’ favorite Bluey (1.07 billion minutes) crossed the billion-minute threshold for the 20th time in 21 measured weeks so far this year.

The webs of romance in Bridgerton easily captured the top spot among all streaming titles for the show’s return. Theatrical flop Madame Web, meanwhile, found a promising start to its streaming life.
Bridgerton drew 2.76 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States for the week of May 13-19. The first half of season three premiered on May 16, and Nielsen says those four episodes accounted for 70 percent of the total, or about 1.93 billion minutes — which would still have ranked No. 1 by a wide margin. The remaining 827 million minutes came from the first two seasons.
Madame Web — whose mom was in the Amazon researching spiders right before she died — premiered May 14 on Netflix and racked up 1.16 billion minutes of viewing for the week. That’s equivalent to about 10 million complete showings of the movie, which is part of Sony’s Spider-Man universe and was derided by both critics and audiences...

Humans have wondered about the philosophical aspect of the relationship between mankind and technology via art, literature, and motion pictures since the advent of machines. This led to the rise of the cyberpunk genre with movies and shows such as Blade Runner, The Terminator, RoboCop, Inspector Gadget, Ghost in the Shell, I, Robot, Ex Machina, Alita: Battle Angel, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Love, Death & Robots, and Upgrade, which asked us to wonder whether or not an android can be as human as humans are. Through characters like Cyborg (from the DC comics), cybernetic implants and prosthetics have been used to comment on the future of people with physical impairments, which is a change that is already happening in real life. Bionic goes a step further and imagines a future where para-athletes with cybernetic implants are going to make able-bodied athletes obsolete. While it’s certainly an interesting concept, is the execution any good?...

After "Madame Web" somehow became an unlikely hit on Netflix despite being a bad movie and a horrible box office misfire, it seems audiences remained hungry for Spider-Man movies that don't really feature Spider-Man -- because they just made an excellent 2018 movie, one that is essentially a much better "Venom" than the one we got, a hit once again.
That movie is "Upgrade," the 2018 sci-fi horror film that premiered at SXSW to great acclaim and has spent the past few days among the top five most-streamed films on Netflix in the U.S. (via FlixPatrol). That's a good thing, too; "Upgrade" is a fantastic and underseen movie with an interesting world, inventive cinematography, and some pretty gnarly action. Despite positive reviews, the movie wasn't a flop, but it wasn't a huge hit either, making $17 million on a $3 million budget. At the least, it led to more Leigh Whannell movies, as...

The genre of cyberpunk, as niche as it might seem at first, provides but a backdrop for humanity’s everlasting problems and conflicts and merely adds a spectacular aesthetic. It’s not that technology is bad or corporations rule over the world; it’s that people abuse power and position themselves above those they deem different.
If you’re a true cyberpunk connoisseur, you must, like us, be starving for new movies and TV shows in this setting. But we’ve got you: here’s the best cyberpunk film you’ve never heard about.
It’s an Upgrade from Classic Cyberpunk
Is it possible to make a groundbreaking cyberpunk movie with only $3M in production budget and a director who almost exclusively tackled horror films before? Apparently, it is — and that’s how Upgrade came to be. Coming from The Invisible Man’s Leigh Whannell and starring Prometheus’ Logan Marshall-Green,...

Nick Antosca’s production company Eat the Cat is bolstering its executive ranks.
Gemma Levinson has joined the company as vp development. She’ll take charge of day-to-day development for the company, headed by Antosca and Alex Hedlund, and also help grow Eat the Cat’s roster of TV and film projects.
“Gemma’s fantastic taste and her commitment to strange, special, provocative genre storytelling make her a perfect new partner for Eat the Cat,” Antosca said in a statement. “I’m thrilled she’s joining our small team—and I’m so excited about everything we’re already working on together.”
Eat the Cat has an overall deal Universal Studio Group’s UCP and is behind Syfy and USA’s Chucky, Hulu’s Candy and The Act — which recently got a viewing bump due to its subject, Gypsy Rose Blanchard, being back in the news — and Peacock’s A Friend of the Family.

Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Julia Garner has been signed on to star in Leigh Whannell’s ‘Wolf Man’.
The movie reunites Julia — playing a mother whose family is being terrorised by a lethal predator — with Christopher Abbott, with whom she starred in 2011’s ‘Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene’, her first professional acting role, reports Variety.
Since then, Julia has gone on to become a major player in both film and television, winning three Emmy awards for her standout performance as Ruth Langmore in ‘Ozark’, and garnering multiple nominations for her portrayal of real-life con artist Anna Delvey in Shonda Rhimes’ limited series ‘Inventing Anna’.
As per Variety, in the film, Julia earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for her impressive lead turn in Kitty Green’s ‘The Assistant’. Last year, the pair teamed up again for another critically acclaimed feature, ‘The Royal Hotel’, which Julia also produced through her Alma Margo production banner.

Universal’s new Wolf Man film has drafted Christopher Abbott in to replace Ryan Gosling: more here.
Universal hasn’t had a lot of luck with Wolf Man films over the past 15 years or so. 2010’s The Wolfman was loved by pretty much nobody by the time it emerged, and any hope of a follow-up was quickly extinguished.
More recently, the studio has been trying to get the whole shebang up and running again, and seemed to be enjoying some luck.
Blumhouse had been working on the project, and continues to do so, partnering with the studio and at one point luring Derek Cianfrance to direct. He dropped out, and The Invisible Man and Upgrade director Leigh Whannell is a more than able substitute.
The problem was that Ryan Gosling had been the high profile capture to take on the leading role in the film. Yet it now turns...

Christopher Abbott is the new “Wolf Man,” taking over the starring role in the upcoming monster movie from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures from Ryan Gosling.
Details on the project are being kept under wraps, but Abbott plays a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
“Wolf Man” will be directed by Leigh Whannell — who was behind the 2020 hit “The Invisible Man,” which relaunched the Universal monsterverse and grossed $144 million at the global box office — and is dated for release on Oct. 25. The film is written by Whannell and Corbett Tuck and Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (“Dumb Money”).
The project was originally announced in 2020 with Gosling set to star; in 2021, Derek Cianfrance signed on to direct, reuniting after their acclaimed collaborations on 2010’s “Blue Valentine” and 2012’s “The Place Beyond the Pines.” The pair departed the picture together, though Gosling will remain involved with the project as an executive producer.

In the wake of The Invisible Man back in 2020, Leigh Whannell is reteaming with Universal and Blumhouse to direct a new take on the Wolf Man, THR officially reports today.
Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) has been cast in the titular role. As you may recall, Ryan Gosling had previously been attached, with Derek Cianfrance on board to direct.
The Hollywood Reporter notes this afternoon, “Gosling and Cianfrance have both departed the project although Gosling will now receive an executive producer credit.”
Whannell’s Wolf Man will howl its way into theaters on October 25, 2024. It’s interesting to note that Whannell was the original director on the project, before Cianfrance took over.

Horror doesn’t always have to be jump scare after jump scare or a non-stop gore fest. It doesn’t have to have Aliens, Terminators, or Predators to say nothing of any of the other monsters we’ve seen over the years. Movies that don’t include those coveted horror checklists typically get lumped into the thriller category like Silence of the Lambs or even Get Out. Funny how those are the movies that the Globes and Oscars want to award. Without a shadow of a doubt horror films that can be labeled something a little more friendly to draw more audience demographics or get better ink in reviews. I’m here...

I always find it fascinating when horror artists tackle other genres. From John Carpenter adding demonic monsters to his kung-fu comedy to Sam Raimi inserting jump-scares in super-hero flicks, you can almost always find a hint of the filmmakers’ previous work even in these non-scary projects. 2018’s sci-fi/action flick Upgrade is no exception, offering up quite a bit of horrific undertones alongside its futuristic action.
Written and directed by Leigh Whannell (the co-creator of Saw), Upgrade is meant to be a no-holds-barred throwback to the schlocky sci-fi offerings of the 70s and 80s, stumbling onto some serious issues along the way. Originally titled Stem, Whannell had completed the first version of the script back in 2012, but the project only really took off once Blumhouse got involved after being convinced that the story didn’t require a blockbuster budget to be produced.

New Delhi, Nov 10 (Ians) Amid the layoff season, tech major Tcs on Thursday announced plans to create 1,200 new jobs in the US by the end of 2024.

The year 2018 seems so long ago for fans of the MCU. Everyone remembers where they were when they saw Avengers: Infinity War, and how their theater reacted to Thanos snapping his fingers. But before that, another MCU film managed to become a cultural juggernaut earlier in the year: Black Panther.
The film’s journey actually started in the 90s, when Wesley Snipes first attempted to get a Black Panther adaptation off the ground. The film was in the pre-development phase up until Snipes’ imprisonment for tax evasion in 2010, and was ultimately unsuccessful due to its inability to find the right script or director. Eventually, a concrete plan for a Marvel Studios Black Panther project was created, and in 2014 it was announced that Ryan Coogler would serve as the director while Chadwick Boseman would star as T’Challa, the Black Panther.

Netflix has released the official trailer for Lindsay Lohan’s debut comeback film, Falling for Christmas, and Mean Girls fans couldn’t be happier.
While the former child actor has largely remained absent from the acting scene since the late 2000s – with her most recent notable role in 2013’s The Canyons – it was announced in March that Lohan has signed a two-plus movie deal with Netflix.
The first film sees Lohan as Sierra, an engaged hotel heiress who falls in love with a blue-collar worker (Glee’s Chord Overstreet).
On Friday (7 October), ahead of the film’s 10 November premiere, Netflix teased fans with the first look at the Mean Girls star’s festive romcom.
“Christmas has come early this year, and I come bearing gifts,” Lohan says as she introduces the trailer. “Please enjoy the trailer for my new movie.”

‘The Invisible Man’ helmer Leigh Whannell is currently in negotiations to take the directors chair for Universal feature ‘The Green Hornet and Kato.’
The classic story focuses on Britt Reid, owner-publisher of The Daily Sentinel. Armed with knowledge from his sources, cool weapons, a supercar known as the Black Beauty, and teamed with his trusty aide Kato, Reid became The Green Hornet, a vigilante crime fighter wanted by the police and feared by the criminal world.
Sources say by going in Whannell’s direction, the story will deviate from the 2011 version, viewers can expect a more serious action thriller that would work toward his strengths.
Also in news – Florence Pugh to star in Netflix series ‘East of Eden’
David Koepp submitted a script for the project earlier this year. Michael Helfant, the former president of Marvel Studios, and Bradley Gallo will produce the film for Amasia.

Exclusive: One of the more highly sought after open directing jobs may have just been filled as Sources tell Deadline that Leigh Whannell is in negotiations to direct The Green Hornet And Kato for Universal. Execs have been meeting with directors over the past couple of weeks but insiders close to the meetings felt as soon as Whannell threw his name in the mix he had the edge as the studio has wanted to get back in business with him after he delivered Invisible Man pic to critical acclaim and box-office success. The studio got a script in from David Koepp early this year they are high on and once a deal closes the film should be fast-tracked to the pre-production stages.

Films are often praised for being visually interesting, but rarely for being verbally interesting – in fact vococentrism is often discouraged, particularly through the famous screenwriting dictum “show, don’t tell”. Director Aaron Wilson’s absorbing period drama Little Tornadoes, however, manages a very compelling and unusual blend of pictures and an almost novelistic screenplay – the kind one might expect from Australian author Christos Tsiolkas, who co-wrote it with Wilson.
Assisted by the timeless qualities of rural locations, Wilson and the talented cinematographer Stefan Duscio illustrate an early 1970s Aussie setting with an eye for lived-in period details. In tone and setting, Little Tornadoes couldn’t be further from an ostentatious historical piece, bunkering down as it does into the...

Fans will apparently not be listening to Kanye West’s new album Donda 2 on any streaming platforms. The rapper confirmed he will exclusively debut the music via his Stem Player device before unveiling the album’s 22-song track list on Instagram a few hours later.
West said in a lengthy statement on Instagram that fans should acquire Stem Player, now in its second generation, “to be a part of the revolution.” The Stem Player retails for $200 and allows users to customize tracks by isolating the different instruments and vocals on a song.

The future is here and it’s out of control in the dazzling sci-fi thriller Override starring Luke Goss – released 6th September on DVD and Digital. To celebrate the new release, we are giving away three DVDs!
The legendary Luke Goss (Hellboy 2) stars alongside Superman himself Dean Cain, and Jess Impiazzi in Override, a terrifically entertaining, smartly plotted mix of Ex Machina and I, Robot, about a futuristic reality show using an alluring female android that goes badly wrong.
Stylishly filmed, with sleek effects and a pulsing soundtrack, and a terrific performance from Impiazzi as a seriously sultry ‘perfect wife’ – the ‘Reality Interface Android’ (R.I.A) who goes off the rails, the film wouldn’t look out of place as a slick and sexy feature-length Black Mirror episode.
As well as pop-idol-turned-prolific-action-star Goss, the film also features much-loved 80s pop star Sinitta and Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt; as well Charlie Clapham,...
