Mamie Laverock, a 19-year-old actor known for her role as Rosaleen Sullivan across several episodes of the Hallmark Channel series “When Calls the Heart,” is on life support after falling five stories from a balcony walkway, according to a GoFundMe page organized by her family.
After spending two weeks in “intensive treatment” in the hospital due to a “medical emergency,” Laverock “was escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories,” per the fundraiser page, which was set up by her parents, Rob and Nicole Compton.
“She sustained life threatening injuries, has undergone multiple extensive surgeries and is currently on life support,” Laverock’s parents wrote. “We are all devastated, in shock, at this intensely difficult time.”
According to the GoFundMe campaign, Laverock’s mother traveled to Winnipeg, Canada, on May 11 to help Laverock with a “medical emergency.

The holiday season is probably going to look very different this year, but there’s one thing that hasn’t changed: the sacred ritual of gift-giving. While we might not be able to gather in the same way for the 2020 holiday season, we can still let the people in our lives know how much they mean to us with the perfect gift (and maybe get ourselves something nice while we’re at it—we deserve it).
We here at Den of Geek believe there is no better gift than a good book and, with nerd culture still very much mainstream culture, there is no shortage of geeky books to get the nerd in your life. From Star Wars and Star Trek to Outlander and Wheel of Time to those speculative fiction books that broke into the zeitgeist this year without a franchise to support them, here’s a list of...

There may not be a ton of genre-related home media releases coming out this week, but the films that are coming to Blu-ray are an impressive bunch all the same. Universal has both Unsane and Pacific Rim Uprising on tap in a variety of formats, including 4K Ultra HD, and Scream Factory has a double dose of classic terror coming your way this Tuesday with Night of the Lepus and Alien Predators. And rounding out this week’s Blu-ray and DVD offerings is the indie thriller The Hollow Child, which comes home courtesy of Lionsgate.

"What are they?" "The hollow ones... They're watching." Vertical Entertainment has debuted an official Us trailer for a horror film titled The Hollow Child, the feature directorial debut of Jeremy Lutter. Inspired a bit by a folklore tale about children-snatching trolls who secretly hide in the forest, the film is about a foster family that realizes something is wrong with one of them. A troubled foster teen, Samantha, works to expose a dangerous supernatural impostor in her new family and rescue her foster sister. The cast includes Jessica McLeod, Hannah Cheramy, John Emmet Tracy, Jana Mitsoula, Genevieve Buechner, Connor Stanhope, and Johannah Newmarch. This does look like a solid, very eerie forest horror. Watch below. Here's the new official trailer (+ poster) for Jeremy Lutter's The Hollow Child, in high def on Apple: Highly intelligent and malicious creatures known as The Hollow Ones live in the Woods and entice children with their hypnotic folklore music.
