Henry Cavill, who played Superman in The Dceu, aka the "SnyderVerse," is set to take to the skies again... in a giant Robot Lion.
THR reports that the Man of Steel and The Witcher star has signed on to play a lead role in Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action Voltron movie.
Cavill joins previously-cast newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye, who previously appeared in Badults and served as Tom Holland’s understudy in Romeo & Juliet on the West End this spring. No details on either of their characters have been disclosed, but we assume they will play two of the five Voltron pilots.
The project is being helmed by Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber, and is based on the Japanese sci-fi show Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger Xv. World Events would later edit and dub the series as a syndicated show, naming it Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which ran in the mid '80s.

Giant mecha TV show Voltron is getting its own live-action film – and now the Man of Steel himself, Henry Cavill, has agreed to star in it.
Amazon MGM’s upcoming live-action Voltron film has found its lead actor, and it’s none other than Superman himself, Henry Cavill. The former Man Of Steel has been announced as the star of the project which is set to shoot this autumn with Red Notice's Rawson Marshall Thurber directing.
It’s been just over a decade since Cavill made his debut as Superman, and in the years since, he’s adopted a few other memorable roles, including Geralt the Witcher in the Netflix show, and fist-cocking, moustachioed assassin in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, not to mention doing a turn or two as Sherlock Holmes in Netflix’s Enola Holmes films.

The long-in-the-works Voltron movie has reportedly taken a step forward, with Amazon MGM said to have the rights and Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber signed up.
Crikey, we hope that if the Earth ever is in peril, Voltron can come to our aid quicker than he can get his long-gestating movie project off the ground. A fresh report from Jeff Sneider today claims that Amazon MGM has won the bidding rights to secure the live action Voltron project which comes with Red Notice director, Rawson Marshall Thurber attached.
This news is an exact copy of a story we covered all the way back in 2022, however, so we’re not sure what’s been going on in the last two years (although we have a good idea). We’d imagine that last year’s Hollywood strikes probably put paid to Voltron's momentum, but it seems that things are once again...

In particular, the video shows the terrible schemes Waller is willing to enact in order to protect the planet from Superman and other possible Kryptonian invaders.

It’s easy to forget about the X-Men in a world where the Avengers have dominated the box office for over a decade. Despite both teams being introduced to the world with their comic books in 1963, the Avengers always seemed to edge ahead in popular culture. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is the second highest grossing movie of all time with $2.7 billion, and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ is the closest X-Men film to that success with $746 million.
The debate over which team is better may never end, but ‘X-Men ‘97’ provides a strong argument for fans on the mutants’ side. The voice actor chosen for a beloved villain in Avatar: The Last Airbender was originally picked because he reminded the creators of another iconic villainous performance.
It’s pretty amazing, how the casting director for Avatar: The Last Airbender actually got Jason Isaacs to voice Zhao! This wasn’t just about getting a famous actor; it meant getting the exact person who inspired the character. Isaacs’ performance really captures Zhao’s ruthlessness, making him a serious threat to Aang and his friends.

Zhao begins as a top officer and later becomes a strong Admiral in the Fire Nation Navy. He’s driven by a desire for glory and conquest, who’s ready to do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Avatar: The Last Airbender has its fans, but the show is particularly popular with fans and writers of fantasy fiction for its simple yet unique take on the elemental-based magic system. Bending, as it is called in the show, is often referred to as a prime example of a hard magic system, distinct from the kind of magic one sees in other fantasy stories like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

Netflix says its ad-supported plan includes “the vast majority” of TV shows and movies available on the standard no-ads tiers — but more than a year after the streamer introduced the cheaper option, several popular titles remain unavailable to customers with the ad plan.
Most recently, Netflix customers noticed that Eli Roth’s horror film “Thanksgiving” (pictured above), added Feb. 17 for subscribers on ad-free tiers, is unavailable on the ad plan. The service notes that the slasher pic — currently at the No. 3 spot on Netflix’s top 10 movies in the U.S. — is not available to members on the ad plan because of licensing restrictions.
“While the vast majority of TV shows and movies are available on an ad-supported plan, a small number are not due to licensing restrictions,” the streamer says in an article on its help site. “These titles will appear with a lock icon when you search or browse Netflix.

In case you didn’t know, animation directors are also auteurs. According to Yahoo Finance, the global animation market reached more than $400 billion at the end of 2023. That was up from $391 billion one year before. And yet, animated projects are not automatically covered by the WGA, are separate from the DGA, and are consistently overlooked for their filmmaking achievements.

Netflix is getting into the "Pokémon" business in a pretty interesting way. The streaming service has debuted the first trailer for a brand new series entitled "Pokémon Concierge" which marks not only the first collaboration between Netflix and The Pokémon Company, but it's also the first stop-motion animated series in the history of the franchise. See what that looks like for yourself in the trailer above.
The trailer is, in a word, adorable. There is absolutely a version of the Pokémon universe that is a little gritty and horrifying. After all, many of these are very dangerous animals. This is the polar opposite of that version, with all of the many familiar creatures just trying to relax and looking rather cuddly. Surprisingly, we've never seen the series take the stop-motion approach before having now seen it, as it looks very natural. The brief logline for the series reads as follows:...

The story follows newcomer Haru as she learns how to take care of Pokémon guests that include Pikachu, Eevee, Dragonite and Magikarp. The animated anthology series "Star Wars: Visions," which debuted in 2021, may be the best way to explore the franchise's vast and complicated mythology, better even than legacy shows like "The Book of Boba Fett" and "Obi-Wan Kenobi." Every one of the "Star Wars" movies has featured a lot of background detail, often depicting space aliens of all walks of life casually going about their business, oblivious to the adventures that our heroes may be going through at any given moment. In presenting out-of-timeline animated shorts, "Visions" has the leeway to look into the cracks and explore what life is like in the "Star Wars" universe outside the tiresome saga of the Skywalkers. It has only been through expanded universe fiction, and shows like "Visions," that Starwoids have been able to see what non-soldiers are doing in wartime.

Dominique Fishback holds her own opposite Samuel L. Jackson in Apple TV+’s “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” and she says that was inspired by the strength of the character. “I wasn’t really nervous because Robyn is not nervous of Ptolemy,” she tells Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast. “She’s not intimidated by him. So therefore, I’m not gonna do that because I’m representing this character.”
On this edition of the Variety Awards Circuit podcast, Fishback talks about “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” and working with Jackson, as well as her take on the character, playing teenage roles even as she enters her 30s, her interest in astrology and how she’s enjoying her success. Later in this episode, “Mr. Mayor” star Bobby Moynihan on the joys of his ensemble comedy, which sadly was just canceled on Thursday as this episode made it to air.

For decades, Hollywood has strived — and failed — to assemble the massive robot mecha “Voltron” for a live-action adaptation of the beloved 1980s animated TV series.
Now, “Red Notice” director Rawson Marshall Thurber hopes he’ll be the one to bring the robot lion arms, legs and head together.
The filmmaker, who also directed Dwayne Johnson films “Skyscraper” and “Central Intelligence,” is attached to direct and co-write a “Voltron” movie in a package that is currently fielding offers from multiple studios. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman (“Beauty and the Beast”) are producing with Bob Koplar of World Events Productions, the company that holds the “Voltron” rights.
Thurber is writing the screenplay with Ellen Shanman.
Although the original “Voltron” only ran from 1984 to 1985, it captivated young audiences with its story of a team of five people who fight the forces of evil in giant robotic lions that link together to form the even bigger titular robot warrior.

True to its portmanteau name, Toonami has brought a wave of Japanese animation to America in the 25 years since it started as a daytime segment of the Cartoon Network schedule. Toonami launched on March 17, 1997, with episodes of Thundercats, Cartoon Roulette, Voltron, and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. Before long, however, anime started taking over the lineup, getting U.S. audiences hooked on shows like Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon. Cartoon Network took Toonami off the air in 2008, but Adult Swim resurrected the brand in 2012, and it’s been going strong on Saturday nights ever since. Here are some highlights from the past two and a half decades of Toonami programming. Attack on Titan In this series, the human hero Eren Jaeger joins the elite Survey Corps to fight the Titans after one of the titular giants attacks his hometown and kills his mother, the war between the species ending a century of peace.

This article contains spoilers for Marvel’s What If…? episode 1.
Some big MCU actors have returned to lend their voices to Marvel Studios’ first animated project, What If…?, but before the show started streaming on Disney+ it became clear that not all the major players were up for being in the mix.
Chris Evans, who left Steve Rogers/Captain America behind after Avengers: Endgame, did not reprise his iconic role in the new show, so the creators looked to established voice actor Josh Keaton to take up the mantle in the multiverse-busting season premiere, ‘What If…Captain Carter Were The First Avenger?’, which imagined a timeline where Peggy Carter took the super soldier serum instead of Steve and became Captain Carter.
Keaton’s voice will already be familiar to animation geeks and gamers. He’s an admired vet, having brought his talents to Takashi ‘Shiro’ Shirogane in Voltron: Legendary Defender,...
