Does Peacock’s new series, ‘Hysteria!’ make the list?
It’s the spooky season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a laugh at the same time.
That’s why I’m pulling out my list of the top 7 horror comedy TV shows you can stream right now – just in time to enjoy Peacock’s newest entry to the genre with “Hysteria!” The new horror comedy series is set during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s when a heavy metal band trying to take advantage of the craze finds themselves at the center of a witch-hunt. If you missed my movie list of top horror comedies, check it out here. And if you’re wondering why I don’t have a list of straight-up scary movies, the reason is simple – I don’t watch them because they terrify me. My babysitter showed me the original “It” when...

Peacock continues to staff up its new Office. Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young have been cast in Peacock’s upcoming Untitled Greg Daniels/Michael Koman mockumentary which is set in the same universe as Daniels’ NBC hit The Office.
The trio join previously cast Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore.
In the Office followup, created and executive produced by Daniels and Koman, the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.
As part of their research for the roles, Gregg, Frei and Young recently shadowed staffers at the Palisadian-Post, a 96-year-old bi-weekly local newspaper serving Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades area which announced the trio’s castings in a story about their visit.

Just in time for Judgment Day, Netflix has a new installment in the “Terminator” franchise for fans of the iconic, long-running sci-fi action franchise. This time, however, you won’t see any familiar faces — the series is animated. However, you might recognize some of the voices, so we’ve put together a handy guide to the “Terminator Zero” cast.
You won’t see Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese or Arnold’s T-800 in this story — it introduces a new timeline and all new characters to go with it. Set in 1997, Japan, “Terminator Zero” focuses on a developer named Malcolm Lee, who is hard at work on another AI system to compete with Skynet and save the human race. Naturally, a Terminator unit is sent back in time to target him and his three children, while a soldier from the future is sent back with a mission of her own.

It's the dawn of a new day in the DC Universe, with James Gunn's upcoming movie "Superman" introducing a new version of the titular Man of Steel, played this time around by David Corenswet. This reset is particularly important for Jimmy Olsen, the fresh-faced photojournalist and cub reporter who works alongside Clark Kent and Lois Lane at the Daily Planet. The most recent movie version of Jimmy was introduced briefly in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" as a CIA operative (played by Michael Cassidy), only to be killed off almost immediately.
Now, through the magic of a soft franchise reboot, Jimmy will be reborn in "Superman" -- played this time around by Skyler Gisondo. To celebrate the 83rd anniversary of Jimmy Olsen's first (named) appearance in DC Comics, Gunn shared a first look of Gisondo in the role. He certainly has the perfect dimpled smile to play Jimmy,...

Today marks 83 years since Jimmy Olsen made his DC Comics debut and Superman writer and director James Gunn has shared two new shots of Skyler Gisondo's version of the character.
One was released on X and the other on Instagram; the actor is wearing the same costume we saw in set photos, suggesting that will be his main look throughout the duration of this movie.
The actor certainly looks the part and is best known for roles in Licorice Pizza, Booksmart, Vacation, The Righteous Gemstones, and Santa Clarita Diet.
It's been a while since we've seen Clark Kent's friendship with Jimmy explored on screen. With Gunn - a huge comic book fan - in charge of the Dcu, that finally looks set to change.

You know you love her, and why wouldn't you?
Eva Longoria is not only a talented actress who chooses projects that speak not just to her amazing acting talent but resonate with her heart in a way that shows in her performances.
She may have gotten recognition from her role on a drama-dripping soap opera with a cast of actors who have no right to be as attractive as they are talented, but Longoria has proven she is so much more than a pretty face and a smile that could melt steel.
With wins from the Screen Actors Guild and the People's Choice, the actress is a familiar face who has been entertaining folks since the start of the millennium.
If this fantastic woman hasn't won you over yet, do a quick search of her to see how she brings thousands of dollars to charities and foundations that help impoverished communities and immigrants worldwide.

Who doesn't love a good comedy show? There are many fans of the genre for the most obvious reason: we love to be made to laugh. But sometimes the laughter can come from a rather unlikely and even disturbing place. And dark comedies are responsible for that.
For example, fans and critics alike love Prime Video's The Boys. The show takes a fresh look at the lives of superheroes and satirizes all the traditional superhero stories. At the same time, the show explores the damage that could be done to the world if superpowers fell into the wrong hands.
If you loved The Boys and all those weird gory scenes with deeper meanings made you smile, check out these 5 dark humor series.
1. Barry (2018-2023)
Highly praised by critics and audiences alike, Barry is also criminally overlooked. The series follows a main character named Barry Berkman, brilliantly portrayed by Bill Hader.

Every. Season. Counts.
The Bear's renewal for simultaneously filmed third and fourth seasons was sweet dad-rock music to the ears of critics and audiences alike.
After sweeping the Emmys and benefiting from word-of-mouth buzz around its Christmas-themed episode "Fishes," the show was practically guaranteed renewal to give us at least one more season with the volatile and tight-knit Berzattos.
An Interesting Experiment
Capitalizing on the moment by filming back-to-back seasons was a smart move for the series and might become a trend for other shows.
Logistically it makes sense to take advantage of utilizing a show's cast and crew for two seasons in one go, instead of having to align all of those schedules again in another eighteen months or so.
In the current landscape of surprise cancellations, it also makes creative sense for a show to film a multi-season arc without the worry of ending on a cliffhanger.

Our TV choices say a lot about our personalities. If we only watch analytical docudramas or super historically accurate shows, it probably means that we use these series to learn about something and try not to waste our time on meaningless stuff. But is it really bad to binge bizarre shows?
Of course, documentaries can be riveting, but sometimes you just need something to turn your brain off and help you relax. We think the best shows to give you that feeling are the weird comedies (sometimes with a little pinch of supernatural thrown in).
Resident Alien is the perfect example of a show that is both lighthearted and easy to watch, but also extremely interesting in its storytelling and with complex characters worth following.
So if you liked that show, these 5 will be to your taste as well.

Exclusive: Actress Cara Santana (Daughter of the Bride) will make her directorial debut with The Shuffle, a documentary on the corruption of the addiction treatment industry, which she’s producing alongside Andrew Renzi’s North of Now.
Developed over the last two years, The Shuffle follows what she says is a $43B-a-year con that’s proliferated in the U.S. through the brokering and trafficking of vulnerable people in recovery by profiting off of their insurance. While underrated upon its release, as John Carpenter’s The Thing failed to make it big commercially following its competition with other sci-fi releases at the time, time has been kind to it. Not only has the sci-fi horror gone on to garner cult status, but many have also deemed it among one of the greatest films the genre has to offer, even deeming it more important than Carpenter’s Halloween.
And the film’s influence is significantly visible in InnerSloth LLC’s Among Us. Hence, it only makes sense for the upcoming adaptation of the game to take further inspiration from the horror, and following its synopsis, it seems like the case.

Exclusive: Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!), Chelsea Frei (The Moodys), and Larry Joe Campbell (The Orville) have been set for guest star roles in the forthcoming second season of Fox’s popular workplace comedy Animal Control, starring Joel McHale.
Others set to appear in S2 guest roles, as previously announced, include Ken Jeong, Sarah Chalke, and Krystal Smith.
Premiering last February, the show created by Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Dan Sterling follows a group of local Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not. McHale plays Frank, an opinionated, eccentric Animal Control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room. A former cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department, but his efforts got him fired, which may explain why he’s so cynical and curmudgeonly. He has an almost superhuman ability to understand animals.

As Halloween approaches, U.S. audiences consistently demonstrate an increased appetite for horror content. Historically, TV show demand within the horror genre surges each October, and 2023 is anticipated to be no exception. The chart below shows demand peaks for horror TV series during the months of October in the last years.
The fluid nature of the entertainment sector ensures that the horror genre remains ever-evolving. Within this genre, audience preferences shift, as new shows introduce trends and captivate viewers, while interest in others wanes. A case in point is the burgeoning popularity of horror-comedy shows.
In the first quarter of 2021, this sub-genre accounted for 10.8% of the total horror show demand. Fast forward to two and a half years later, and its market share has risen to 17.4%. Contrastingly, suspense horrors, the frontrunners in the genre, have seen their demand slip from 72.6% to 66.4% during this timeframe.

Olyphant’s acting career seemed to move at a slow pace before nabbing the hit TV series Justified. The Santa Clarita Diet star enjoyed success in supporting film roles and television shows such as Deadwood. But up until Justified, Olyphant’s prospects and opportunities in the film industry were usually uncertain.
“Honestly, I feel like I spent the last 10 years just trying to work, just get my hands on the best material I could. I’d like to say that it was quite calculated and genius, my ability to take one step forward and two steps back,” Olyphant once told Entertainment Weekly.

Cannibal stories are a tough nut to crack as they automatically turn off a large part of the audience just from their central concept. Yet, as proven by shows such as Santa Clarita Diet, there is still an audience for them. Adapted from the hit podcast, The Horror of Dolores Roach also takes a ton of inspiration from Sweeney Todd. If you know anything about that story, then it’s fairly easy to see where Dolores Roach goes during its runtime. And there are many satisfying twists and turns along the way to keep you interested. But it’s the performances that really make the show stand out. So I was excited to be able to chat with stars Justina Machado, Alejandro Hernadez, Kita Updike, and K. It’s been four years since Netflix canceled Santa Clarita Diet, and some people — including its star Drew Barrymore — still have a hard time letting go. It’s hard to blame them. The series’s final season was one of its best (just check the Rotten Tomatoes score) and things ended on a major cliffhanger. Even more disappointing is that showrunner Victor Fresno seemed to have a clear vision for where things would go from there. The sting of the comedy’s demise may not go away anytime soon, but the consolation is that its many talented cast members are booked and busy, starring in some of the most exciting series of 2023.

Sometimes, TV shows end at the perfect time.
There are many variables that go into having a TV show on the air, and it can govern when they end.
We've rounded up some of the TV shows that ended far too soon, and frankly, it still hurts.
1. The Society - Netflix The coming-of-age drama focused on a group of teenagers in a town without adults. It had compelling characters and a solid mystery. Despite landing a renewal, the show was canceled due to production delays caused by Covid-19. This might be one of the worst decisions Netflix has ever made. 2. Santa Clarita Diet - Netflix Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant toplined this comedy about an undead realtor. The series had a devoted fanbase, but Netflix shocked everyone when it canceled the show after three seasons. And, no, there was no closure in sight. Boo. Netflix again? We're sensing a pattern.

Exclusive: Ed Harris (Westworld), Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery) and Natalie Morales (No Hard Feelings) have closed deals to lead My Dead Friend Zoe, a dark dramedy about two generations of veterans, family and friendship, which Kyle Hausmann-Stokes will direct in his feature debut.
The film written by Hausmann-Stokes and A.J. Bermudez tells the story of a female veteran (Martin-Green) engaged in a mysterious but comfortable friendship with her wise-cracking (and dead) best friend from the Army (Morales). When the vet is summoned to the remote lake house of her estranged Vietnam vet grandfather (Harris), she is tasked with providing the one thing he refuses…help.
Pic is based on Merit x Zoe, a short that Hausmann-Stokes co-wrote and directed last year, and both films draw inspiration from his real-life experiences during and after the military. A graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, Hausmann-Stokes served five years in...

Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” has a large ensemble of actors worthy of Emmy consideration, from established stars like Melanie Lynskey and Christina Ricci to up-and-comers like Jasmin Savoy Brown and Sophie Nélisse who play their younger counterparts. But one cast member, Liv Hewson, has removed themselves from contention, due to the gendered categories of the Television Academy’s awards.
Hewson, a nonbinary Australian actor also known for their work on Netflix’s “Santa Clarita Diet,” told Variety that they made the decision not to submit themselves for consideration to the Emmy Awards. Hewson opted out of submitting because they would either be placed in the supporting actor or supporting actress in a drama categories, as all Emmy categories are split into male and female honorees.
“There’s not a place for me in the acting categories,” Hewson told Variety. “It would be inaccurate for me to submit myself as an actress.

Devi Vishwakumar is back for one more round of misadventures, as Netflix has just announced a release date for "Never Have I Ever" season 4. The fourth season of the high school-set comedy is poised to be its last, and while we're not quite ready to say goodbye to these vibrant weirdos and their not-finished-cooking teen brains yet, the final episodes look like a lot of fun.
Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher's Netflix comedy about a group of high school geeks led by horny, adventure-seeking Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) has been lauded from its first season for its surprisingly poignant examination of grief and stereotype-bucking Indian-American representation. Across its three seasons, the show has gone to some deep places (the death of Devi's father influences both her best and worst choices) and some deeply funny ones, and while the latest teaser only offers a small taste of what's to come, it...
