Exclusive: The upcoming pre-Broadway world premiere engagement of A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical in Boston has cast Tony Award nominees Mark Jacoby and Robyn Hurder, and Linda Powell to its cast, producers said today.
Jacoby will play the musical icon as he is now, while the previously announced Will Swenson will portray Diamond as a young man. Jacoby’s casting is the first indication that A Beautiful Noise will include two actors portraying the singer-songwriter.

The Eighties are widely regarded as the low point of Bob Dylan’s entire career, a time when he struggled to find relevance in the MTV era and released a series of tacky, rudderless albums that were savaged by fans and critics. Even Dylan himself refuses to defend his output from the time. “[I was] pretty whitewashed and wasted out professionally,” he recalled in his 2004 memoir Chronicles: Volume One. “I’m in the bottomless pit of cultural oblivion. You name it. I can’t shake it.”

After decades and decades of defeat, the Three Lions are heading to the Euro 2020 final.
The Harry Kane captained England team beat off a robust challenge from Denmark with a 2-1 win in extra time in the semi-finals of the tournament at home at Wembley on Wednesday. The England football (soccer) team will now face Italy on July 11. The jubilant team won’t have to travel very far as the UEFA final is also being held at the London stadium with distinct home advantage.
This is the first time since 1966 that England has gone right to the cusp of absolute victory. Or as fabled British football commentator Ian Drake said his booth buddy Stewart Robson today: “No one under the age of about 65 will have ever seen England play in a major tournament final.”

Jennifer Lopez brought out a very special guest during the Global Citizen Vax Live's concert taping on May 2. The "Lonely" singer has previously credited her mom, Guadalupe Rodríguez, for her love of dance, so it only makes sense that the two shared the stage together in Inglewood, CA. Lopez introduced Rodríguez to the crowd, and together, the dynamic mother-daughter duo covered "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond.
This surprise duet feels like perfect timing since the Vax Live concert will premiere the day before Mother's Day on May 8. "Sing it to me just like you used to, Ok?" Lopez told her 75-year-old mom in a Twitter video captured by Adelle Platon. Rodríguez switched the lyrics around for her "Sweet Jennifer," which is just such a typically adorable mom move, isn't it? Los Angeles County met a new milestone on Sunday in the fight against Covid-19: Zero deaths.
The good news for the area, once a hot spot in the pandemic with the most infections and the tightest restrictions on normal life, just so happened to coincide with another landmark moment in Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World. Held at the new SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, the Global Citizen concert marked the first large-scale music event since March 2020 when the pandemic crushed the events landscape and led to an extended period of isolation.

“This is a rock concert!” Dave Grohl kept repeating, over and over, with and without the F-word inserted, at Sunday night’s filming of Global Citizen’s “Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World” at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Some of the other participants might have begged to differ on the exact genre classification — not-such-hard rockers Jennifer Lopez and J Balvin were among those sharing the bill — but the basic sentiment was widely shared: Stadium-sized entertainment is back. A Beautiful Noise, the new name for the previously untitled Broadway-bound musical about the life and songs of Neil Diamond, will stage its world premiere at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre in June 2022, producers Ken Davenport and Bob Gaudio announced today.
“I’ve had the joy of coming to Boston on countless occasions,” Diamond said in a statement, “but one of the most special was my 2013 trip to Fenway where I had the honor of being part of a moment of relief, unity, strength, and love. Next summer, when A Beautiful Noise has its first performance at the Emerson Colonial Theatre, and we’re all able to safely be in the same space together, experiencing the thrill of live theater, I imagine those same emotions will wash over me and the entire audience. Relief… Unity… Strength… Love… I can’t wait to share that experience.”

Since the release of Gravity in 2013, George Clooney has been in quite the acting slump, with Brad Bird’s severely underrated Tomorrowland as the lone bright spot. Scan his IMDb page and he appears to have made more Nespresso-funded short films than studio features, albeit for altruistic causes. The directorial projects have been even direr, a far cry from the glory days of Good Night and Good Luck and The Ides of March.
Considering its pandering weightiness and saccharine heart, Clooney’s The Midnight Sky feels like a blatant attempt to get back in the good graces of unadventurous critics and Oscar voters. Adapted from the novel Good Morning, Midnight by co-screenwriter Lily Brooks-Dalton, it envisions our planet’s last gasp through the glassy, sad eyes of world-renowned scientist Augustine Lofthouse (Clooney). Afflicted with a mortal ailment, he has decided to stay on Earth while what’s left of...

George Clooney has come a long way since his breakout role as the hard-partying, womanizing pediatrician Doug Ross on NBC’s 1990s hit “ER.” But the actor-turned-filmmaker said he drew on lessons from his work on the medical drama while directing and starring in his new sci-fi epic, “The Midnight Sky.”
The movie, set partly in outer space and partly in the frozen expanses of the Arctic, is by far the biggest and most ambitious of the seven movies that Clooney has directed. Based on the novel by Lily Brooks-Dalton, it takes place about 30 years in the future, when an unspecified calamity has threatened to make Earth unlivable and a team of astronauts is returning from a scouting mission at a potentially inhabitable moon of Jupiter.
In addition to directing, Clooney plays a key role in the earthbound scenes as a terminally ill scientist named Augustine Lofthouse who’s remained...

As an actor, George Clooney serves up self-deprecation and charm; as a filmmaker, the same impulses come across as bitter and ironic convictions. That’s certainly the case in “The Midnight Sky,” a gorgeous take on the apocalypse that doesn’t try to reinvent the formula because, well, you know how these things go. Clooney directs and stars in this ambitious adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton’s 2016 novel, and there’s much to appreciate about his by-the-book approach: Despite the blockbuster budget, he’s crafted , laced together with mournful gazes at the icy tundra and the sad revolutions of spacecraft en route to its dying home.
As it slips between these lyrical settings, Clooney conjures both the cosmic awe of “Gravity” and the eerie isolation of “The Thing,” an admirable set of traditions that lend an imitative feel for much of the movie. Yet for the actor-filmmaker, this somber, effects-driven tone...

"What if we were all meant to be together?" Paramount has released an official trailer for an inspiring, feel-good drama titled Mighty Oak, the latest from veteran producer / filmmaker Sean McNamara. In the ensuing years from losing her vocalist brother in a tragic car crash, a young guitar prodigy comes into play - which is left up to speculation that he could be a reincarnation of her late brother. The film tells the story of a band manager who encounters a 10-year-old music prodigy named Oak, played by newcomer Tommy Ragen, a real-life prodigy whose music inspired the screenplay. This film also stars Janel Parrish, Carlos PenaVega, Alexa PenaVega, Levi Dylan, Raven-Symoné, Nana Ghana, Rodney Hicks, Gianna Harris, & Ben Milliken. Sorry to say, it looks like made-for-tv extra cute, inspirational junk that some people will love. But there's not much to see here. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Sean...

Diana Gabaldon, author of the original “Outlander” book series, had some choice words to say about one particular sex scene in the latest episode of the Starz television adaptation.
Gabaldon originally tweeted to say that episode 6 of Season 5, called “Better to Marry Than Burn,” was available to stream on Starz. But her tweets turned to criticism after a fan asked a question about a sex scene in a stable towards the end of the episode between leads Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire Randall, and Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Frasier.
“The stables scene was such a disappointment…what has happened to their chemistry?” the fan asked. “Everything looked so forced and unnatural.”

Neil Diamond is taking some liberties with his biggest song amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“I’m Neil Diamond, and I know we’re going through a rough time right now,” the singer-songwriter said to fans in a YouTube video posted to his channel on Sunday. “But I love you, and I think maybe if we sing together, we’ll just feel a little bit better.”
Then, guitar in hand, he busted out into a rendition of his hit song, “Sweet Caroline” — with just a slight variation on the lyrics to fit these trying times.

There are plenty of helpful reminders to keep your hands clean nowadays, and Neil Diamond just added another to the list. The iconic singer recently sang a version of "Sweet Caroline" on Twitter with the lyrics slightly tweaked to emphasize good hygiene. He's one of many celebrities who've raised awareness about ways people can try to stay healthy during the coronavirus pandemic.
The bridge of Diamond's song usually goes, "Hands, touching hands / Reaching out, touching me, touching you," but he tweaked things slightly and sang, "Hands, washing hands / Don't touch me, I won't touch you." You heard him, folks! It also helps that the new bridge clocks in at 20 seconds, which is the minimum recommended time limit for handwashing hygiene. Watch the full video below to see Diamond's rendition, and don't be surprised if the catchy tune gets stuck in your head.

A far cry from the previous four movies that Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg have made together (the two men Voltron-ing into a single creative entity that will henceforth be referred to as “WahlBerg”), the hilariously titled “Spenser Confidential” is a high-testosterone action thriller about a red-blooded, blue-collared, perpetually open-mouthed American patriot who decides to take matters into his own hands when some bad guys besmirch the good name of these United States. Just kidding — the only significant difference between this chaotic dreck and the likes of “Mile 22” is that “Spenser Confidential” is going straight to Netflix.
Beyond that — and maybe a surprising cameo from Post Malone — . By now, WahlBerg making a “funny” crime movie about an aggro ex-cop trying to sniff out corruption in South Boston is like if Wes Anderson made a “Succession”-esque screwball comedy about an inbred family jostling for control over a Bavarian tweed factory.
