Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” the animated adventure featuring video-game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Part2 Pictures has optioned “Blonde, Beautiful and Dead: The Murder Mystery That Inspired Twin Peaks,” an upcoming project from MetaBook about Hazel Drew, the young woman whose murder 110 years ago became the basis for the fictional killing of Laura Palmer.

Calhoun used to tell Frost stories about Drew, who was found dead in the waters of Teal’s Pond. Like Laura Palmer, she was said to have a double life that included multiple lovers.
Frost will write the foreword of the book, which explains how his grandmother’s stories about the killing lingered with with for decades, leading to the inception of the murder mystery at the center of his and David Lynch’s unforgettable “Twin Peaks.”

In the first “Wreck-It Ralph,” audiences got a video game mashup film that featured some of the biggest characters in gaming combined with the Disney way of subverting tropes. Well, for the sequel, “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” we get the same idea but on a much grander scale. Social media, search engines, spam, and yes, even the Dark Net are all subject to jokes in the new Disney animated film.

As indie production outlet Part2 Pictures celebrates its first 10 years, the company’s approach to documentary storytelling — premium content with high production values — has moved more into the mainstream.
“We have been doing what people now call ‘premium’ from the beginning,” says Amy Bucher, Part2 senior vice president of programming and content. “It’s as natural to us as air and water. We just think that’s the way you should tell stories.”
Lisa Ling has worked with Part2 for the better part of a decade, first with five seasons of “Our America With Lisa Ling” that aired on Own, and now with “This Is Life With Lisa Ling” for CNN. She believes the audience for such premium content in which Part2 specializes has always been there, but the current real estate between traditional networks and streamers have helped provide a larger platform.

This week Dark Net looks at surveillance and cyber stalking as individuals and communities come under increased observation by the state and become vulnerable to crackers. Countries like the UK have a huge number of CCTV cameras with nearly every major town and city stuffed full of them, recording every move of the citizens. The U.S. is not far behind and although these technologies together with license plate and face recognition can help stop crime, they also create a real dilemma for those defending basic freedoms. One man on the show tries to defend his CCTV program to neighbors, who...read more...

The currency and others like it have been hailed as a revolution in how goods and services are paid for with the intermediaries like bank cut out of the transaction. However, like most...read more...
