The Bondsman, releasing on Amazon Prime Video on April 4, 2025, is the story of a bounty hunter who dies and is resurrected to become a hunter of demons for the Devil. It resembles a mix of Supernatural, True Blood, and Preacher. Blumhouse Productions, known for horror, is part of the production team. This series is set in modern-day Georgia.
The Bondsman is a fun show with interesting characters. Each one has their own frailties and quirks. There are some nice music choices to go with each episode and plenty of humor. Horror fans will enjoy the action, gore, and intrigue. At times the characters' actions are hard to believe or predictable. I didn’t find that intrusive enough to prevent me from enjoying the show.
Below, we break down all eight episodes of this new series. Beware Spoilers ahead!

As Robert Kirkman's animated superhero series "Invincible" continues to serve up new twists and turns in its third season, viewers may find themselves wondering what the heck is the deal with Viltrumites and their mustaches. All of these men are sporting some serious facial growth above their upper lip like they're Burt Reynolds smuggling a truckload of Coors from Texarkana to Atlanta. It's a bold bit of grooming that's too uniform to be a mistake. Meanwhile, Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun), aka the half-human, half-Viltrumite hero Invincible, is 'stache free. Clearly, something is up.
There is, unsurprisingly, a perfectly good explanation for the Viltrumites' grooming preferences, as well as Mark's decision to go without one (though you could be excused for assuming the young man is as yet incapable of looking like 1980s New York Yankees great Don Mattingly). The short answer is that it all has to...

"The Simpsons" Halloween anthology episodes, "Treehouse of Horror," are a tradition going on 25 years right now. Some "Treehouse" segments are superior to others, naturally, but the episodes give the show a chance to break all the rules, killing characters willy-nilly or irrevocably changing Springfield.
"Treehouse of Horror" is so synonymous with "The Simpsons" that the "Simpsons" comics, published by the now-defunct Bongo Comics, did an annual "Treehouse of Horror" issue from 1995 to 2017. (These "Treehouse of Horror" comics are now collected in omnibus editions.)
One of the most famous "Treehouse of Horror" comics was "Murder, He Wrote," an Eisner Award-winning parody of the manga/anime "Death Note." This was in 2008, many years before the animated "Treehouse of Horror Xxxiii" combined "The Simpsons" and "Death Note."
Now, many of the "Treehouse" comic stories were written by Bongo Comics regulars. "Murder, He Wrote" was by regular "Simpsons" comic writer Ian Boothby, with manga-influenced...

Classic horror entries like The Thing, Alien, and even The Shining wield isolation as a weapon, trapping their protagonists in place and leaving them perilously vulnerable to threats- inhuman or otherwise – to evoke chills. It’s a simple tool that horror frequently exploits for maximum discomfort, whether physically, psychologically, or even socially. No matter how filmmakers insulate their characters, it results in despair and loneliness for the characters and chilling unease for the viewer. This week’s streaming picks center around isolation-based horror movies.
These titles showcase various forms of isolation, from remote settings to extreme quarantines, to leave you on the edge of your seat.

Mel Gibson went almost a decade without directing a movie after his war drama "Hacksaw Ridge" hit theaters in 2016. The actor-filmmaker, whose other directorial credits include "Braveheart" and "Apocalypto," has now ended his dry spell with the release of his new movie "Flight Risk." It's a very minimalistic, contained thriller that takes place on a tiny plane and centers almost entirely on just three actors for the majority of its runtime. However, some familiar voices also pop up along the way, particularly for those who are fans of a certain classic CBS sitcom.
Gibson, it needs to be mentioned, is a controversial figure who has been accused of antisemitism, in addition to having a battery charge against his ex-wife, which is largely why he doesn't work as much as he once did. But he still does, indeed, get work in Hollywood these days, as evidenced by this thriller, which is being released by Lionsgate.

Garth Ennis has written some great, popular comic books over the years, with some of his work including the creation of the books Preacher and The Boys, and fan favorite runs on Marvel’s The Punisher. Preacher and The Boys have both gotten TV series adaptations, and ideas from Ennis’s Punisher books have made it to the screen. Five months ago, it was announced that the Ennis-created horror comic Crossed is also getting an adaptation, with the independent company Six Studios picking up the rights to make a film based on the series. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that the Crossed film is set to be directed by Rob Jabbaz.
Ennis has written the screenplay for the Crossed film, which takes place in a pandemic-stricken world, in which those who catch a disease are marked with a cross-like rash on their faces. Those afflicted follow their...

After being heavily inspired by Crossed with his feature debut The Sadness, filmmaker Rob Jabbaz will next direct an adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic, Variety reports.
Ennis, who also created “The Boys” and “Preacher,” penned the script, based on the original 10 issues of his Jacen Burrows-illustrated comic published by Avatar Press between 2008 and 2010.
Crossed is set in a pandemic-stricken world in which those infected with a disease — marked by a cross-like rash on their faces — follow their worst impulses, turning them into homicidal maniacs.
Six Studios is behind the project with an expected budget in the $2-3 million range. A March filming date is being eyed.
“It has been a real delight working with Garth Ennis and Six Studios developing Crossed for the big screen,” says Jabbaz. “From day one, our primary goal has been to deliver a faithful adaptation of the original series, along with a few new surprises.

It’s a little-known fact that The Boys actually started out being published by DC Comics, but co-creator Darick Robertson revealed that Homelander, Billy Butcher, Wee Hughie and the rest were almost folded into the DC Universe itself. This stunning revelation puts a whole new perspective on Garth Ennis and Robertson’s irreverent superhero take-down, which would have drastically altered the way the original comics were portrayed.
Speaking with Retrofuturista in 2020, artist Robertson describes how the series came together, as writer Ennis approached the artist in the early 2000s with a new superhero series idea. While Robertson was eager to collaborate with Ennis once again following their work on the Fury and Punisher series, he was tied up with rebooting Wolverine with an exclusive contract with Marvel at the time.
A few years later, Robertson was free from his Marvel commitments, and reconnected with Ennis:

Everyone has heard of the sophomore slump.
It essentially means a regression, and many shows have fallen into this trap. After delivering a stellar first season, missteps and misfires during the second season cause the audience to second-guess their initial excitement about the series.
It happens more often than you think, even to shows you may think are destined to succeed.

One of those shows that everyone wondered about after its masterful first season was Interview with the Vampire.
The Anne Rice classic was reworked for the small screen and delivered one of the best pilots of the last decade.

Interview with the Vampire Season 1 Episode 1 was as thrilling a piece of television as you’ll ever see. It introduced New Orleans and Louis de Pointe du Lac, a vampire recounting his past to Daniel Molloy for a second time.

Landman Season 1 Episode 7 split the emotion between Angela and Ainsley’s asinine hijinks and Cooper’s decision to lay his head on Ariana’s pillow, as much of a home as he’s had in a very long time.
The gulf between those plotlines was jarring, with true life and future decisions juxtaposed with temporary choices that even the most forgiving couldn’t help but laugh at.
But that’s the Landman way. It’s a tough world, and living in it requires a certain je ne sais quoi that can only be found here and within the Taylor Sheridan universe.

In the three seasons that Fire Country has been airing, it’s been a roller coaster ride of awesome action and sloppy personal relationships.
This Fire Country Season 3 mid-season report card breaks down all the events that have unfolded in the first half of this season and what we might expect when the show returns from its break.
The show has had its moments of genius and trash. It’s had to redeem itself after a weak second season full of half-ass storylines and soap opera drama. While things have improved with Fire Country Season 3, we’re not out of the woods yet.
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
Fans still want things to focus on firefighting and less personal drama. And more than anything, we want to stop seeing repeated storylines that are turning this hit drama into a weakened soap opera of messy relationship entanglements.

Netflix's longest-running original series, Virgin River, has already been renewed for season 7, but fans are still reeling from the developments of the just-released season 6. Based on the series of novels by Robyn Carr, Virgin River follows the denizens of the titular town and their myriad lives, loves, and secrets. The ever-popular soap opera boasts a massive cast that includes the likes of Annette O'Toole, Tim Matheson, Alexandra Breckenridge, and Martin Henderson, among many others.
Virgin River's fifth season saw the introduction of Battlestar Galactica veteran Kandyse McClure as Kaia Bryant, a tough-willed firefighter who winds up in a relationship with Preacher (Colin Lawrence) and might just be the one to break his streak of bad romantic luck. In addition to her star-making turn on Battlestar Galactica, McClure is known to genre fans for her roles on shows like Ghost Wars, The Good Doctor, and The CW's Charmed reboot.

Television has always been a reflection of society’s darker fascinations.
Still, in recent years, some episodes have crossed the line in ways that sparked public outrage, censorship, and even legal consequences.
These moments didn’t just make viewers uncomfortable — they forced networks and audiences alike to confront uncomfortable truths about culture, politics, and societal values.

If you haven’t watched the current season, please note that spoilers are ahead!
Undeniably, Virgin River Season 6 was the season of Mel & Jack.
After multiple seasons of roadblocks, heartache, and trials and tribulations, Virgin River delivers a sexy, fun, relatively light, and joyful season.
The season tempers much of the drama, and we got to wrap ourselves in the culmination of Mel and Jack’s love story.

We discuss our thoughts on the full season, so be mindful if you want to avoid spoilers.
Virgin River Season 6 Finally Turns Up the Heat Again with Mel & Jack
The sixth season answered our prayers regarding the intimacy, love, and heat between Mel and Jack.
For a bit, it felt as if the series got so lost in the pain that both characters were constantly enduring that their love felt more like a union through shared traumas than a genuine love story.

Legal dramas have long been a staple of television, from the slick courtroom theatrics of Law & Order to the cutthroat maneuvers on The Good Wife.
But before we had Jack McCoy or Alicia Florrick, there was The Defenders, a 1960s legal drama that broke new ground — and taboos.
Unlike its contemporaries, The Defenders wasn’t just about winning cases or dramatic courtroom moments. It was a show with a conscience, unafraid to tackle the controversial issues of its time.
E.G. Marshall (CBS/Screenshot)
Abortion, civil rights, war crimes — no topic was off-limits.
At a time when TV often shied away from controversy, The Defenders leaned in, proving that television could not only entertain but also challenge its audience.
Let’s examine how this quiet revolution unfolded and why The Defenders remains a landmark in TV history.

We now know who will play Sherriff Mickey Fox's (Morena Baccarin) father in the upcoming Fire Country spin-off series, Sheriff Country. The spin-off, which was recently ordered by CBS for the 2025/2026 TV season, will follow Fox as she navigates the streets of small-town Edgewater, investigating its criminal activities. Just like the Mothership series, Sheriff Country will equally focus on the personal life of its main protagonist and, in this case, Fox's relationship with her ex-con father, who is still deeply involved in the life of crime even after leaving prison. Deadline now reports that Fox's father, Wes will be portrayed by W. Earl Brown, whom you may recognize from his roles in Deadwood, Yellowstone, and Preacher.

We've known for a while that The Mandalorian & Grogu started life as The Mandalorian season 4. If the massive splash Moana 2 recently made at the box office is any indication of what's in store for the next Star Wars movie, Disney CEO Bob Iger made the right decision shifting to theaters from streaming.
While production on the project has wrapped, Deadline (via SFFGazette.com) has shared more casting news today as The Mandalorian's Jonny Coyne is set to reprise his role as a (currently unnamed) Imperial Warlord.
He showed up in hologram form as part of the Empire's sinister Shadow Council in the penultimate episode of The Mandalorian season 3. Moff Gideon reported to them on the Mandalorians' plan to retake Mandalore while the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn were also discussed.

Exclusive: Jonny Coyne will be reprising his role as Imperial Warlord in Jon Favreau’s feature take of The Mandalorian streaming series, The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Imperial warlord is part of the hologram Shadow Council in episode 7, season 3 of The Mandalorian in which he and other Imperial ranking officials meet with Giancarlo Esposito’s villain Moff Gideon. Gideon informs them about the Mandalorians’ plans to take back their home planet of Mandalore, while also questioning the whereabouts of Admiral Thrawn, a very notable bad guy in the Star Wars canon. The Shadow Council operates secretly against the New Republic. In that episode, Imperial Warlord tells the group about the opportunities in “plundering the hyperspace lanes.” He’s accused by Captain Gilad Pellaeon that his “hit and run operations are gaining too much notice.”
Coyne joins a growing cast that includes Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White.
Favreau co-wrote the screenplay with Dave Filoni.

Most know Stephen King for his books, or movies based on those books. But he's dipped his toes into comics as well. During the 1980s, he contributed to Marvel Comics' "Heroes for Hope" one-shot and pitted the X-Men against a villain right out of his horror novels.
In 2010, King had a brief stint co-writing the horror comic "American Vampire" with series co-creator Scott Snyder. Published by DC's Vertigo imprint, "American Vampire" was created by Snyder and artist Rafael Albuquerque. However, King's role was still important; he wrote the backstory of the comic's anti-hero lead.
The first volume of "American Vampire" (issues #1-5) is split between two stories. The first is set in 1920s Hollywood and written by Snyder. The second is a prequel set in the old West, written by King. Albuquerque's cover for "American Vampire" #1 shows this bifurcation. Above...

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, The Boys co-creator Garth Ennis shared his philosophy of what makes a great villain, perfectly explaining why Homelander has become such an iconic bad guy. The Superman-esque 'hero' is the main villain of the franchise (co-created with artist Darick Robertson), with Billy Butcher's team of CIA-backed operatives working to take down the nation's favorite Supe.
Recently, Screen Rant spoke to Garth Ennis about Freddie the Fix - his new horror comic with artist Mike Perkins, and the first release from Ninth Circle; a creator-owned publisher specializing in horror. Coming December 18, Freddie the Fix has a particularly despicable villain, even for the writer of Preacher and Crossed. We asked Ennis what makes a good villain, and his answer perfectly defines Homelander.
Asked what makes a great villain, Ennis says:
Cruelty. Lack of humanity, lack of empathy. I often think if you want true...

Band of Brothers was one of the most critically acclaimed war drama series that depicted World War II on television, and while this accomplishment meant so much for the creators, some of its cast members were not completely thrilled with their experience.

These days, "The Boys" is the most famous Garth Ennis comic due to its Prime Video TV adaptation. (Read our /Film review of "The Boys" season 4 here.) Even so, "The Boys" is not my favorite Garth Ennis comic.
I'm an avowed fan of "Sara," Ennis' Soviet-set World War 2 comic (drawn by Steve Epting) that has none of his usual crass humor. His best long-running comic is "Preacher" (drawn by the late Steve Dillon). A neo-Western road comic, "Preacher" has three main characters: Jesse Custer, a preacher who can command people to obey him with "the word of God," his tomboyish girlfriend Tulip O'Hare, and the Irish vampire Proinsias Cassidy.
"Preacher" is as much a satirical black comedy as "The Boys" is, but it focuses more on religion than on corporations and superhero comics. God has left Heaven and all is not right with the world, and Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy...

If you think the TV series version of "The Boys" crosses the line, wait until you read the original comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
Ennis writes about things he hates getting raked over the coals. "Preacher" is an enormous middle finger to organized religion, particularly Christian fundamentalists. When Ennis wrote "The Punisher Max," he had Frank kill Ira terrorists, human traffickers, and Enron executives. Ennis' disdain for corporate America also leads us to "The Boys," which also let him vent about how ridiculous he thinks superheroes are, following in the footsteps of Pat Mills and Kevin O'Neill's comic "Marshal Law."
The "Boys" comic is more episodic than the show; it's divided into arcs about the Boys fighting one particular superhero team, then moving onto the next as they climb up the ladder towards the Seven. This avoids...

This article contains spoilers for "The Boys" season 4.
Season 4 of "The Boys" was the bleakest the show has been, a perverse, hyper-violent chapter in the story that shed any pretense of not being about our current socioeconomic and political climate. Sure, there were still silly and funny moments scattered throughout, but for the most part, it was misery and pain for all. Whether it was Butcher going through an identity crisis (literally), The Deep engaging in arguably his darkest story yet via one messed up relationship, or without a doubt the most heartbreaking, cruel, and otherwise kind of meaningless death in the entire series, "The Boys" reached new levels of sadism and pain.
One particularly big storyline involving pain and betrayal was that of Ryan, Homelander's son with Butcher's late wife, Becca. Given Ryan is the only chance the characters have to defeating Homelander, his storyline is pretty crucial to the show's endgame.

The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power opened to big viewing numbers in the United States — just not as big as its first season.
The Prime Video series amassed 1.02 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Aug. 26-Sept. 1, good for first place among original series and second among all titles in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Season two premiered on Aug. 29 with three episodes, and Nielsen says about 70 percent of the show’s weekly total was for those three, with the remainder devoted to season one. (Viewing totals on the ratings service’s charts cover all episodes of a series.)

After portraying Jesse Custer in the hit supernatural fantasy series Preacher from 2016 to 2019, English actor Dominic Cooper elevated his acting chops in the AMC+ original series That Dirty Black Bag, a must-see TV Western that debuted in 2022. In more ways than one, Evil comes off as the perfect spiritual follow-up to another highly acclaimed supernatural show that boasts a Rotten Tomatoes score of 87%. However, despite the similarities between the two, only one got the opportunity to end its runtime on a conclusive note. Created by Robert and Michelle King, Evil first landed on CBS on September 26, 2019. After performing well both critically and commercially, the show moved to Paramount+ for subsequent seasons, where it remained till its fourth installment marked the end of its run.
What made Evil a standout in the supernatural genre and allowed it to garner a massive following in a short duration was its ability to walk on the thin line between science and religion with its storytelling. With each new arc, the show introduces a new mystery that plays with the conventions of horror but also manages to instill both chills and thrills in viewers.

Clint Eastwood is a name synonymous with some of the greatest Westerns in cinema history, and although he has played many Western heroes over the decades, there is one that stands out above all others. Eastwood's portrayal of the mysterious no-named stranger that first appeared in Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars is one of the most iconic movie characters of all time, earning him the title: "The Man with No Name."
Originally appearing in the three Leone classics that made up the "Dollars Trilogy", an argument can be made that Eastwood's "Man with No Name" has had a couple of other appearances in classic westerns. Aside from a number of movie characters being molded after him, "The Man with No Name" was not a character Eastwood was so easily ready to move away from. "The Man with No Name" inspired multiple iterations of Clint Eastwood protagonists, some more heavily than others.

When the hit AMC dark fantasy series Preacher was added to Netflix in August 2024, fans of the popular graphic novel expected to see more out of Proinsias Cassidy (Joe Gilgun). The beloved character from the graphic novel series is criminally short-changed in the TV adaptation, rendering the character far less powerful than fans are used to witnessing on the page. Of course, adaptations always take creative liberties to tell a story as efficiently and dramatically as possible, yet in the case of Cassidy in Preacher, it's quite curious why the lovable character has taken a back seat in the show.
Now that Preacher is finding new life on Netflix, five years after it officially ended on AMC, a new crop of fans are tuning in and discovering that Cassidy is not the same charming Irish vampire with immense supernatural powers known for in the Garth Ennis comic book series. As...

After four seasons, Evil is over. The horror/detective show moved from CBS to Paramount+ in 2021, where it improved. It could be the freedom of not being on network TV, different writers, or something else. Regardless of the reason, the show was better on Paramount+. Unfortunately, the series finale left a lot up in the air.
Warning! Spoilers for the series finale of Evil ahead
First, there’s The Sixty. The demonic houses found a way to spread their evil around the world. They’re going to use the internet to send their brand of nastiness directly into the human brain. We don’t know if the plan works, what they’ll use, and how The Sixty feels about it. Some seemed to hate the idea, but that could be before they see the results.
Then there’s Kristen Bouchard and David Acosta. While they’re in Italy, Kristen notices...

The Preacher ending sees Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy taking on God and his apocalypse and coming out on top after four seasons of searching. Based on the comic series of the same name, Preacher started in the small town of Annville with a priest who drinks, smokes, and gets into bar fights. The show has wandered through vampire hunters, massive religious organizations, cloned messiahs, Heaven, Hell, and so much more and the finale, "End of the World," brings it all together with epic fight scenes and a bit of a happily ever after.
The Preacher series finale begins with the apocalypse only minutes away. Tulip is trying to get to Humperdoo to kill him, Cass is trying to protect him, and Jesse is about to go head to head with the Saint of Killers, all while God watches. While a lot is happening, stopping the apocalypse doesn't take much time in the Preacher ending.
