The church used in the film is Harvest Bible Chapel in Elgin, IL. There was an open call for extras to be seat fillers during a sermon scene.
There was an actual motorcycle club on the scene, the "Take Up Your Cross" motorcycle ministry. The club president's bike was used throughout the movie and some of the club's members posed for the movie's poster.

The Cars for Single Mothers scene is a reference to a real program that was, and may still be running, at the time of filming. It was for more than just single mothers but anyone in need, and was operated by the church that the movie was filmed in.
Even though in the movie Anjelah Johnson's character struggles with telling a joke, Anjelah is actually an accomplished stand-up comedienne who has done 3 stand-up comedy specials (one on Comedy Central and they other two on Netflix).
