Alan Ritchson is the man of the moment. Success and the spotlight have not come to him overnight. Despite his professional and personal struggles, he never gave up on his dream of becoming a star one day. He might be one of the most in-demand action heroes now but his resilience as an actor is truly commendable.
As a young boy, Ritchson used to perform in school musicals and improv around the cafeteria. His inspiration behind this was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Minds star Jim Carrey. He got the chance to meet his idol once, but things turned out to be a little awry.

Alan Ritchson has become well-known for playing beefy characters with a strong sense of justice after starring in Titans as Hank Hall/Hawk and his current gig as the titular hero in Prime Video’s Reacher. But before playing TV’s biggest boy Jack Reacher, Ritchson appeared in a variety of movies and TV shows, some more unexpected than others.
From Brooklyn Nine-Nine to New Girl, here are some of Alan Ritchson’s weirdest pre-Reacher roles.
Gloss – The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Alan Ritchson doesn’t have much screen time in the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, but in that short amount of time he’s able to give a surprising amount of depth to his character. On "12 Monkeys," the 2015 TV series based on Terry Gilliam's 1995 feature film, actor Todd Stashwick played a character named Theodore Decaon, the leader of a dangerous band of scavengers and outlaws in the year 2043. Deacon only appeared occasionally throughout the show's first season, becoming a proper regular character for its remaining three. "12 Monkeys" was developed by Terry Matalas, who was previous a writer on "Star Trek: Enterprise" and "Nikita," and who would go on to write and/or showrun Syfy's "Blood Drive" and the network's new "MacGyver" series. Matalas is currently the showrunner for the newest season of "Star Trek: Picard." Not incidentally, Stashwick also appears on it.
On "Picard," Stashwick plays the gruff and plainspoken Capt. Liam Shaw, commander of the U.S.S. Titan-a. Unlike previous starship captains on "Star Trek," Capt. Shaw has no interest in being friendly with his crew. He doesn't establish trust,...

It’s been strange to discover how many filmmakers have willfully ignored the fact that, for a couple of very recent years, the planet Earth was completely consumed by a deadly pandemic that killed millions of people, tanked our economies, transformed social interactions, and probably changed life as we know it forever. Most movies and TV shows are happy to pretend those years never happened, and have never interrupted the flow of their characters’ lives. But horror filmmakers — who work fast, work cheap, and have carte blanche to confront our most uncomfortable anxieties — are the exception.
The “Lockdown Wave” of filmmaking, with productions that took place in the midst of the pandemic or its immediate aftermath, has already yielded fascinating results. Films like “Host” nimbly explored themes of shared cultural responsibility, while Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s “Something in the Dirt” tackled broader existential dilemmas. It seems only fitting that Kevin Williamson,...

Exclusive: The Handmaid’s Tale creator/executive producer Bruce Miller and writers-producers John Herrera and Nina Fiore are bringing another female-driven novel to television. TNT has put in development Heresy, a western drama inspired by Melissa Lenhardt’s book of the same name, from The Handmaid’s Tale trio and MGM/UA Television, where Miller and his White Oak Pictures are under a deal.
Written by Herrera and Fiore, Heresy is set in the Wild West. In it, women have few choices: marriage, whoring or grabbing a gun. For two unlikely allies, the choice is simple.
Described asThelma & Louise meets The Magnificent Seven, Heresy is a female-driven, queer, transgender, multiracial takeover of the West like we’ve never seen before. Led by our two heroines, a group of women transform themselves into a legendary outlaw gang because the only way for a woman to claim her right to life, liberty and the pursuit...

Exclusive: Netflix has put in development an epic live-action series based on Conan, the iconic sword-and-sorcery character created by writer Robert E. Howard, I have learned.
I hear the project, from Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media, is the first in a deal between Netflix and Conan Properties International, owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. The pact gives Netflix the exclusive option to acquire rights to the Conan literary library and develop works across TV and film, both live-action and animated.
The move would fit into Netflix’s strategy of acquiring globally recognizable IP to build an universe of films and TV series, including Roald Dahl’s novels, The Chronicles of Narnia books and comics publisher Millarworld.
A search is currently underway for a writer/showrunner to pen the Conan adaptation and director to helm the project. Malmberg and Wheeler will serve as executive producers on the potential series through their Pathfinder Media.

Alan Ritchson has lined up his next TV role, and it's a big one.
He's landed the title role on Amazon's Jack Reacher.
Ritchson is currently starring on DC Universe drama series Titans in the role of Hank Hall, aka Hawk.
He recurred on Titans Season 1, but was promoted to series regular for Titans Season 2, and is expected to appear on the forthcoming Titans Season 3.
There's no word yet on whether his role will be scaled back on the superhero drama's third season due to his new role.
Ritchson is also well-known for his one season run on Blood Drive, as well as playing superhero Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman on The CW's Smallville.
Jack Reacher nabbed a series order at the streamer earlier this year at Amazon's turn at the Television Critics Association.
Based on Lee Child's novels, the freshman season will follow The Killing Floor, the first Jack Reacher novel.

Alan Ritchson, who is 6-foot-3 by some accounts (and may be even taller!), has landed the highly coveted, highly scrutinized title role in Amazon’s Jack Reacher series.
Ritchson’s previous TV credits include DC Universe’s Titans (where he has played the superhero known as Hawk), Syfy’s one-and-done-but-glorious Blood Drive, and Smallville (as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman). Ritchson will continue on Titans while filming Jack Reacher, our sister site Deadline reports.

Amazon’s high-profile new drama series “Hunters” premiered on Friday, February 21. It’s the first regular series role for Al Pacino. The Oscar-winning actor has Emmys for the limited series “Angels in America” and the telefilm “You Don’t Know Jack.” Could he be on his way to a third win for his role as a vigilante tracking down and exacting revenge against Nazis?
SEEAl Pacino explains why he joined Amazon’s ‘Hunters,’ his Nazi-killing first TV series
Set in the 1970s, the series stars Pacino plays Meyer Offerman, a wealthy Jewish man who assembles a ragtag group to investigate and execute Nazis living secretly in the Us and plotting to bring about the Fourth Reich. The actor’s performance has a “confident wisdom” and “impish cleverness.” He keeps it at a “low rumble,” which makes his “rare outbursts more powerful.” He provides “a balanced through-line” that grounds the sensationalist story.

A decade is a long time in television, and we're gathering the best programming across a bunch of fun categories.
We're starting with the best action/adventure series.
Did your favorite make the list?
Game of Thrones - HBO (2011-2019)
Let’s get it out of the way. Games of Thrones had a rocky ending. That doesn’t take away from the seven incredible seasons that came before it, though. Game of Thrones is one of the defining shows of the decade.
Having such a large ensemble cast is no easy task, but Game of Thrones managed to get us invested in each player in the war for the Iron Throne. The show had something for everyone: action, adventure, romance, and dragons.

Van Helsing Season 4 Episode 10
“I can’t believe we’re negotiating with a moron in the goddamn apocalypse.”
After last week’s solo mission into Jack’s past, “Together Forever” gets the larger Van Helsing narrative arc back on track and introduces an element that up to now has remained in the shadows. The government is watching, and while it’s not yet evident how much it knows about Blak Tek and its experiments, the revelation that it’s out there and paying attention adds another intriguing layer to the chaos taking place in the Western United States. And even though Vanessa’s still trapped in an alternate world with the Dark One, her daughters more than make up for her absence.

Pennyworth’s Anna Chancellor and Outlander’s James Fleet have joined the cast of BBC America’s The Watch, based on Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels.
The pair are the latest actors to join the BBC Studios and Narrativia-produced series, joining lead Richard Dormer.
Chancellor stars as Lord Vetinari, The Patrician of Ankh-Morpork, and architect of the city’s normalized wrongness and ramshackle system of governance, while Fleet stars as The Archchancellor, wizard, magical advisor, and the Head of the Unseen University.
Set in the fictional city of Ankh-Morpork, where crime has been legalized, The Watch is a “punk rock” drama. The eight-part series centers on a group of misfit cops as they rise up from decades of helplessness to save their corrupt city from catastrophe.

Hawk and Dove make their Titans debut, and the DC Universe TV series immediately improves.
This Titans review contains spoilers.
Titans Episode 2
This is more like it. My spoiler free review of Titans was based on my impressions from the first three episodes. A significant portion of the awkwardness I pointed out in there came from the first episode, which does an awful lot of telling and what it shows, often reinforces some of the unfavorable impressions fans got from the trailer. But Titans episode 2 is a much better indicator of what this show is supposed to be, and it’s apparent right from the opening moments.
Titans episode 2 is appropriately called “Hawk and Dove” and it introduces that relatively obscure superhero pair in its opening moments, played perfectly by Alan Ritchson (Blue Mountain State...but I still miss Blood Drive) and Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), sporting the coolest,...

The Titans team will slowly but surely start to assemble (are we allowed to use that word here?) when the DC Universe streaming service debuts its first original series on Friday, Oct. 12.
Releasing new episodes weekly, Titans finds Dick Grayson (played by Pirates of the Caribbean 5‘s Brenton Thwaites) toiling as a Detroit police detective, having put an apparently rocky break-up with Gotham City billionaire Bruce Wayne aka Batman behind him.
“He’s at a point where he doesn’t agree with [Batman’s] way of fighting crime, so he went on the road to find justice in a way that he believes in,...

There’s a bit too much Robin in the hood in a new teaser for Titans, DC Universe’s inaugural original live-action series.
The new digital subscription service launched today, Sept. 15 aka Batman Day, though Titans won’t premiere until Friday, Oct. 12.
At the 2:10 mark in the DC Daily episode above, Dick Grayson (played by series regular Brenton Thwaites) makes the acquaintance of Jason Todd (Game of Silence‘s Curran Walters), who as the “new” Robin now fights crime alongside Batman (with whom Dick apparently has obviously had a falling out).
Is Jason enjoying more Bat-perks than Dick ever did?...

The third season of AMC's Preacher may have taken place primarily at Gran'ma's house in Angelville (aka Hell on Earth to Jesse Custer), but it also once again took viewers around the world on a heady examination of family ties, violent faith, and fiery friendship. Following the season 3 finale, AMC released two behind-the-scenes videos that take a look back at the latest season in the adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's cult comic book series.
We'll have to wait and see if Preacher is renewed for a fourth season by AMC, but in the meantime, you can take a look back at the third season in the new videos below.
From the Press Release: "Preacher," is a dramatic thrill ride that follows West Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip (Academy Award® nominee Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun...

With the third season of Preacher spending some quality time at Gran'ma's house, we've seen some of the show's most twisted adventures yet, but Jesse and the gang are just getting started, as AMC's new trailer for the series offers a look at the chaos and carnage to come in the second half of season 3.
From the Press Release: "Preacher," is a dramatic thrill ride that follows West Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip (Academy Award® nominee Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) as they embark on a road trip to find God and are thrust into a twisted battle spanning Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.
