What was on your bucket list when you were 13 years old? For Alex in Netflix’s new film “The Life List,” those items are the key to getting her inheritance from her mom (who you’ll definitely recognize).
Now streaming, the movie centers on Alex and her family after their matriarch, played by Connie Britton, dies. While Elizabeth made things easy on most of her kids in her will, it was her dying wish that in order for Alex to receive her inheritance, she must complete the bucket list she first wrote when she was a young teenager.
What follows is a pretty sweet adventure, leading Alex to play one-on-one with a former NBA star, step outside her comfort zone, and more.
Here’s who you’ll need to know in the film.

One thing we can say for sure about the Fire Country writers is that they are an ambitious bunch. How else do you describe them pitting a small fire station against a million-dollar corporation?
Whatever the series is plotting, I am all for this recent story development. For once, the drama isn’t a blazing forest fire or a medical emergency that goes from bad to worse.
Fire Country is using an age-old tactic that is both a cliche and certified method to corral audience members around the characters.
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
The writers are bringing in a “big bad” to rally Sharon, Vince, and everyone else at the station. It’s a tried-and-true technique that never fails.
Fire Country has tried the “Hometown Hero” strategy, and now it seems like they are going for the “Great Evil” that unites a group of people. Sometimes, the old ways are the best ways.

The award for dumbest murderer on Elsbeth goes to Lawrence “Larry” Grey. At least Matthew Broderick is somehow still charming, even as a killer.
Also, is the whole college admissions scam still a thing? And who in their right mind would start when the student is a toddler?
After so many big-name convictions, I would think people wouldn’t still be playing with fire. Then again, I’ve never been rich and powerful.
(Michael Parmelee/CBS)
As far as Elsbeth episodes, this one hit all the right marks with a bit of drama, a fistful of funny, and a pinch of intrigue right there at the end.
For a show about murder, it sure does manage to deliver a lot of good news and keep things surprisingly upbeat.
Granted, the killers of Elsbeth are not exactly genius masterminds. Still, Larry takes the cake with more rookie mistakes than anyone with...

Sofia Carson in The Life List – Picture: Netflix
In March 2024, Netflix confirmed The Life List, a new romantic comedy starring Sofia Carson. The movie is due out on Netflix soon, so we’re here with everything known about it, including the full cast, production updates, plot details, and more on its release date, which is now set for March 28th.
Adam Brooks is on board to both write and direct the project. The Canadian screenwriter and director is no stranger to the romantic comedy space, having written or directed (or both) titles like Definitely, Maybe, and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, plus the Netflix Original movie Nappily Ever After, released in 2018.
This isn’t the first time The Lift List has been attempted to be brought to the big screen. Ahead of the book’s release in 2013, Fox 2000 optioned the film rights for the novel, with Hutch Parker set to produce.

It looks like Fire Country will be jumping on the campy bandwagon in the next episode.
However, I imagine, given the show’s tone, it will not be acknowledged in the show for its hilarious meta-humor.
If you haven’t seen the promo for “Fare Thee Well,” you’re likely scratching your head and asking what in the world I could be one about. Fair warning: There’s just no other way to say this without it sounding like it sounds.
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
On Fire Country Season 3 Episode 11, Bode Leone will slay a dragon. Let that marinate for a minute. I saw it with my own eyes, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it.
Sure, it’s super gimmicky for an episode, but a little camp humor never hurt anything. Besides, once you see the promo, the image will live rent-free in your mind forever.

General Hospital Spoilers reveal Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) didn’t mince words when she told her mother, Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer), that she was considering telling Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) the truth about her past.
There’s just one problem — she immediately realized that would mean she would have to tell Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) the truth, too, and she’s just not ready to do that.
Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) has affirmed that he never shared her secret with anyone — not even Dante — and that means she’s free to rewrite the story however she pleases, right?
This Truly Isn’t About Brook Lynn Quartermaine
While telling Chase the truth would unburden Brook Lynn of the guilt she is feeling over having kept it a secret from him in the first place, that’s not why she wants to tell him.
Rather, she doesn’t want Chase to...

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Laid!
Peacock’s dark comedy, Laid, includes a cast of comedians and actors featuring Oscar-nominee Stephanie Hsu. The show follows a 33-year-old woman named Ruby Yao, who discovers that her exes are starting to die. She works alongside her best friend, Aj, and her ex, Richie, to figure out why the characters she slept with are dropping dead in hilarious and absurd ways. At the same time, she tries to navigate her feelings for her new party-planning client, Isaac.
Laid thrives off the fact that the characters, especially Ruby, are deeply flawed and make reckless decisions. This debaucherous show includes a wild and unruly premise through which Ruby can process her past and grow. At the same time, the people around her also become better versions of themselves. Ultimately, the cast of predominantly established actors and comedians does an excellent job getting the audience...

When it comes to police procedurals, keeping things fresh and exciting is the key to success. Many shows try numerous tactics, but CBS‘s Elsbeth has created a unique advantage for itself.
As the series comes to the halfway point of its sophomore season, it’s fair to say there are endless guest appearances. Something that has indeed worked in the show’s favor.
Fans of Elsbeth have more than become accustomed to the revolving door of detectives.
(Michael Parmelee/CBS)
While we will likely still have more new faces down the road, we at least have a core group of investigators.
Now that a good handful of the detectives are buddying up with Elsbeth, it’s about time we get familiar with some of these wildly different but equally entertaining sleuths.

Review: When the first season of Based on a True Story dropped last year on Peacock, I was not impressed with the story of a couple who started their own true-crime podcast with input from a real serial killer.

Gotham is expanding in “The Penguin” and that means a lot of familiar names, but new faces. In some cases, it means new names too.
Premiering on HBO on Thursday, September 19, “The Penguin” takes place just a few weeks after the events of “The Batman,” but centers on crime boss Oz Cobb — better known as the Penguin. With Gotham effectively in ruins, it’s a race to see who can control the streets, and he thinks his time has come.
That becomes a bit harder, though, when Sofia Falcone, daughter of Carmine Falcone, unexpectedly returns from Arkham Asylum.
We won’t spoil anything, but here are the major players you’ll need to keep up with.

Lee Daniels horror hit The Deliverance has managed to hold the number one spot on Netflix since its debut on August 30, but long before he got Glenn Close to portray a white woman who grew up in the Black community, he made his debut in features with the 2001 Oscar-winning film Monsters Ball, which he says was "developed with drug money." Daniels served as the sole producer on the film through his newly-minted company Lee Daniels Entertainment, making him the first Black producer in history to produce an Academy Award-winner entirely on his own.
In an interview with The Film Stage, Daniels touched on Monsters Ball, and how the majority of his movies have all been independently financed through his company, including the 2001 hit, which was produced on a budget of just $4 million dollars and would ultimately go on to earn $45 million at the box office. Exclusive: Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men) and Laura Slade Wiggins (Shameless) have signed on to star alongside Landon Ashworth (Space Force) in Go On, a fantasy drama marking Ashworth’s feature directorial debut, which will enter production in New Mexico in September.
Marking Ashworth’s first produced feature screenplay, the film follows two strangers on a remote mountain, scorched by forest fires, as they help each other process baggage from their previous lives so they can transition to the afterlife. Ashworth crafted the screenplay after losing his very young cousin, Landon Bellm, to suicide.
“Having my feature film directorial debut be my own screenplay which addresses real, meaningful, and relatable issues is an honor,” Ashworth told Deadline. “Also, having the opportunity to work with Vincent is beyond a dream come true. I’ve followed his career for over a decade and knew he needed to play the co-lead of this movie.

Weird paleo-media provides a fascinating plethora of fossils from other times and cultures that audiences can forget. In terms of animation, for every iconic cartoon classic like The Flintstones or Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous lies hidden gems and critically-panned coprolites hoping to appeal to humanity's fascination with dinosaurs. Examining past dinosaur media provides captivating insights into the evolution of paleo-pop culture while simultaneously sparking curiosity about the possibilities of resurrection, much like the dinosaurs in Jurassic World.
As a testament to the power of imagination and the medium of animation, 1914's Gertie the Dinosaur stunned audiences as they watched an Apatosaurus come to life. While not the first animated feature, it set a new standard for cartoons, being heralded as: "The greatest animal act in the world." Since then, dinosaurs have been a mainstay in comics, cartoons, and other media, giving rise to classic series like Alley Oop, The Flintstones,...

Yoda's mysterious past and journey to becoming a Jedi could make for an interesting storyline in a Star Wars show. Exploring Poe Dameron's origins and rebel background would give fans insight into his character and role in the Resistance. Tala Durith's backstory as an Imperial officer turned rebel could be expanded upon in a Disney+ series, showcasing her development and the establishment of The Path.

Producer Jonah Swilley and rapper Brandon “Bez” Evans are the two brains behind the hip-hop duo Revival Season. Their debut album, Golden Age of Self Snitching, is out February 23rd via Heavenly Recordings, and they’re previewing it with the lead single “Pump.”
Citing artists like Dungeon Family, OutKast, and Beastie Boys as some of their main inspirations, Revival Season often nod to hip-hop’s roots with their funk-forward approach. The duo formed while Swilley was looking for his next collaborator, and Bez quickly proved to be the man for the job, creating an “instant rapport and creative chemistry.”
“We kinda worked backwards, reverse-engineered a lot of songs,” explains Swilley, who’d make beats out of Bez’s isolated vocals. “I’d build a track around what he was doing vocally, kind of fill it out rhythmically, using his vocal as an instrument, seeing how I could accompany that musically...

Kenneth Branagh is back for this third — and by TheWrap’s account, best — appearance as Agatha Christie’s detective Hercule Poirot in “A Haunting in Venice.” He also directs the spooky mystery, which boasts a terrific lineup of murder suspects (and potential victims), including Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan and Kelly Reilly.
Here’s who plays which character in the film based on Christie’s 1969 novel “Hallowe’en Party” — and where you might have seen the less familiar names before.
“A Haunting in Venice” is now streaming on Disney+.
20th Century Studios.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 could introduce Carol Marcus, played by Sarah Jones from For All Mankind. Sarah Jones brings intelligence, charisma, and emotional maturity to her roles, making her an ideal choice to portray the brilliant scientist and conflicted lover, Carol Marcus. Introducing Carol Marcus in Strange New Worlds season 3 would provide insight into her decision to keep Lt. James T. Kirk away from their son, David, and could shed light on her motivations for creating the Genesis Device. Sarah Jones has the qualities to embody this complex character.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 could introduce Carol Marcus, and Apple TV+'s hit sci-fi series, For All Mankind, just had the perfect actress to play the girlfriend of Lt. James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley). In Strange New Worlds' musical episode, Kirk confesses to Lt. LA'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) that he can't act on their mutual attraction because...

Murder mysteries, particularly those of the Agatha Christie variety, tend to be feasts for actors, affording them the chance to play colorful, eccentric, and often more than a little bit sleazy characters who may or may not like to dabble in homicide on the side. Such was the case with director Kenneth Branagh's first two films in his Hercule Poirot cinematic universe, "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile." For his third go at adapting Christie's super-sleuth for the big screen, "A Haunting in Venice," Branagh has once again surrounded himself (and his ginormous curly mustache) as Poirot with a cast that represents the cream of the crop when it comes to character actors working today.
"A Haunting in Venice" (you can read /Film's review here) adapts one of Christie's lesser-known Poirot novels, "Hallowe'en Party," in order to put something of a horror-tinged spin on your average Poirot adventure.

Kenneth Branagh looks all set to continue his love affair with the world of Agatha Christie this year, with the pending release of A Haunting in Venice, Branagh's third adaptation of Christie's Hercule Poirot detective novels. Christie's most famous crime-solving creation has been played on TV and in film by a host of world-famous actors over the years, including stars of House Hugh Laurie, Alfred Molina, and Albert Finney, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the 1974 version of Murder on the Orient Express.
However, the most successful portrayal was that of David Suchet, who first took on the role for the British TV channel ITV in 1989 and proved so successful with audiences that he went on to play the part for the next quarter-century, retiring only in 2013 after filming 13 series and 70 episodes based on Christie's works, alongside such luminaries of stage and screen as two-time...

It's fair to say that the world is ready to see more of Stephanie Hsu. Following her success with "Everything Everywhere All at Once", the actor has taken on several new projects, including the Disney+ series "American Born Chinese" and the raunchy comedy "Joy Ride," which she stars in alongside "Emily in Paris" star Ashley Park.
The film, which hit theaters on July 7, centers around a lawyer named Audrey (Park) who travels to China with a group of her closest friends in search of her birth mother. The unapologetic, hilarious nature of the flick gave Hsu a chance to do something outside her normal bubble, which was a thrill to experience, according to the actor. "It felt so exciting to get to do what we never get to do, which is to be completely unhinged, disgusting, grotesque, chaotic, wild, but still so full of heart," she explained in a July 2023 interview with Elle.
