March 17 is...you guessed it, St. Patrick's Day. The day when Americans celebrate their Irish heritage. Yeah, it might be an important day elsewhere in the world, but Ireland does not celebrate in the same way.
That is fine because the great island has given us a lot of acting talent for a total population of just around seven million. The great actors per capita for the Irish are likely better than nearly any other populace. That means the culture is ripe to produce excellence.
Of course, not every wonderful actor from the Irish island (we are including Northern Ireland here as part of the complete island) has a film featured on Netflix. Several do, however. In fact, the actors below have more than one film streaming on Netflix, so there is a lot to watch on St. Patrick's Day.

One of Liam Neeson's worst movies has become a global Netflix hit two years after its release. Beginning his film career in 1978, the Irish actor broke through with his portrayal of Oskar Schindler in Steven Spielberg's acclaimed Holocaust drama Schindler's List in 1993, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. From there, Neeson took on several roles in blockbuster movies, including Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Ra's al Ghul in Batman Begins, and Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy.
However, starting in 2009, Neeson established himself as a prominent action star with roles in the Taken movies, The A-Team, The Grey, Wrath of the Titans, and Cold Pursuit. He's collaborated multiple times with director Jaume Collet-Serra, starring in four of his action films – Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night, and The Commuter. Liam Neeson may not have started out as an action star, but he is certainly considered one now. Though Neeson's '90s and early 2000s career did have a handful of action movies, including Rob Roy (1995), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), and Batman Begins (2005), he was just as well known for non-action roles in projects like Schindler's List (1993) and Love Actually (2003). Neeson's career shifted, however, after the release of Taken in 2009.
Taken spawned two less successful sequels, but it also set Neeson down a unique action path. Neeson became the starring figure in a number of mid-budget action movies, with the films usually built around his casting. Notable entries in Neeson's action career include movies like Unknown (2011), The Grey (2011), Non-Stop (2014), A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014), Cold Pursuit (2019), The Ice Road (2021), and In the Land of Saints and Sinners (2023). Many Neeson action movies come and go with little fanfare, and such was the case for one 2015 film.

Silent Bite is the third exercise in seasonal slaughter from writer/actor Simon Phillips, who also gave us Once Upon a Time at Christmas and its sequel The Nights Before Christmas. While they weren’t the greatest examples of the genre, they were far from the worst as well, and they do say the third time is the charm, so I decided to kick off my Christmas viewing with it.
A gang of Santa suited bank robbers, Prancer, Grinch, Father Christmas (Simon Phillips), and Snowman, are hiding out at The Jolly Roger Inn and Resort. Despite its name, it’s a dump in the middle of nowhere, which makes it perfect for them to lie low while Rudolph leads the police on a wild good chase.

Liam Neeson made a name for himself as an action star quite late in his career, and it seems that he is almost ready to close the book on that part of his life in the near future. Having delivered audience-pleasing performances in movies such as Taken, The Ice Road, and Cold Pursuit, fans should make the most of his latest movie, Absolution, as it could be one of his last action roles.
While Neeson spent many years dabbling in dramas and rom-coms, 2009 revenge thriller Taken changed all that forever, turning the Irish actor into a surprising action star overnight. In a new interview with People, he first recalled how something about that movie just registered with audiences. Neeson explained:
It just seemed to have touched something in the psychic nerve of moviegoing audiences.
Although his new movie sees him once again getting physical with bad guys, he has now...

Liam Neeson’s beloved run as an action movie star may be coming to an end next year. The Oscar nominee spoke to People magazine and teased his retirement from the genre that reignited the back half of his acting career. Neeson’s role in 2008’s “Taken” transformed him into an action icon, and he’s never stopped kicking butt on screen in the 16 years since. Even well into his 70s, Neeson continues to perform his own fight scenes with some help from longtime stunt collaborator Mark Vanselow.
“I’m 72 — it has to stop at some stage,” Neeson told the publication. “You can’t fool audiences. I don’t want Mark to be fighting my fight scenes for me.”
While Neeson has not yet set a specific date for his last action movie role, he did say that it will likely be in 2025, adding: “Maybe the end of next year.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is back for Season 2, and this time around there are a number of new characters to keep straight. With Sauron revealed to be Halbrand at the end of Season 1, the chess pieces are now fully in the open and the Dark Lord is masquerading as yet another new character this season in order to try and forge the titular rings. Fang Flanagan. That’s who Liam Neeson is going to be playing in his next action role, in the film Mongoose. More here.
Another deal from Cannes Film Festival has been announced and it looks like Liam Neeson is signing up for some cross country vehicular mayhem.
The Taken (pictured) star once expressed some concern that his upcoming comedic turn in The Naked Gun remake (currently in production) could signal the end of his career and as unlikely as that might seem, should it prove to be the case, there’s no need to worry because Liam Neeson will at the very least get to make Mongoose.

Another remake of classic – make that two classics – is headed to Netflix, as the streaming giant has just released the teaser for The Wages of Fear, first made in 1953 and later most notably remade by William Friedkin with 1977’s Sorcerer.
In the trailer, we see an explosion and the chaos of the aftermath, with a voice saying, “There is a gas pocket feeding the flames. To put it out, we need to blow it up.” This sets up the plot of The Wages of Fear, which finds a team driving to the location in trucks filled with nitro…and they’re on a timeline of just 24 hours.

It’s hard to imagine nowadays, but humans weren’t always at the top of the food chain. And with our ancestors being preyed upon by larger mammals and even our fellow humanoids, it stands to reason that we’d develop a generalized fear of the dark. That’s why it makes sense that cold places where the sun doesn’t routinely rise are naturally suited for spooky stories.
This is precisely what showrunner Issa López had in mind when she came up with HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, a brand-new murder mystery that returns the anthology show to its horrific roots. And with new episodes dropping weekly, we’ve decided to help viewers get an additional fix of frigid frights by recommending six arctic thrillers to watch after Td: Night Country.
As usual, don’t forget to comment below with your own arctic favorites if you think we missed a particularly spooky one.

Liam Neeson will return for the icy vehicular thriller sequel, The Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky, and filming is set to begin in Australia shortly.
Released in 2021, The Ice Road wasn’t necessarily the best entry in Liam Neeson’s action-thriller phase, but it did feature Laurence Fishburne as a character named Jim Goldenrod, which is one of those things we remember in idle moments from time to time.
About a group of truckers who set off down a frozen highway in the hope of rescuing workers from a collapsed diamond mine, The Ice Road received middling reviews, but was evidently a success for the companies that streamed it – the film was hosted by Netflix in the US and Amazon Prime in the UK.
It was so successful, in fact, that the sequel was hungrily snapped up at 2023’s Cannes Film Festival by Amazon Prime – that purchase was said to be worth $17m,...

Liam Neeson's latest film, Retribution, continues his streak of low-rated movies, receiving a disappointing 30% score on Rotten Tomatoes. This marks Neeson's eighth consecutive Rotten movie, indicating a notable decline in critical reception for his action films. While Neeson's action movies have been successful at the box office, the negative reviews and diminishing audience scores may suggest the end of his action hero phase.
Retribution continues a negative Rotten Tomatoes trend for star Liam Neeson. The movie, which is a remake of the 2015 Spanish movie El desconocido, was helmed by Predators and Stranger Things director Nimród Antal. It stars Neeson as Matt Turner, a financier who receives a call informing him that there is a bomb in his car while he is driving his kids to school, plunging him into a high-octane game of cat and mouse.
Ahead of the Retribution release date on August 25, Rotten Tomatoes has released a low score.

Liam Neeson stars in the upcoming action movie Retribution, and news around his latest thriller is setting up a movie that could be on-par with some of the actor's classics like Taken. Retribution is a remake of the 2015 Spanish- and French-language film El Desconocido, which is about a man whose family is put in danger when his former client returns seeking revenge. The movie takes a lot from Speed with its focus on someone remaining in a vehicle that can’t be exited, but it weaves in themes of greed and the idea of putting business above family that make the line between the good and bad guys a little blurrier.
