This year’s San Diego Comic-Con is getting a spotlight though a journalistic lens via award-winning website Comics Beat and Ott app and Fast channel ElectricNOW.

Comic-Con is North America’s biggest annual pop culture festival, attracting over 135,000 attendees as well as the focused attention of Hollywood, with studios and streamers spending millions on hyping their movies and shows.

The CW isn’t saying goodbye to all its scripted programming just yet! The network has renewed All American—its most-watched show across all platforms—for a 13-episode Season 7. It will air in 2025. The network has also picked up unscripted magic series Penn & Teller: Fool Us for Season 11 and announced that The Chosen Season 4 (after its theatrical release) will make its broadcast television debut on Sunday, September 1, at 8/7c. “A strong fall is going to lead into an even stronger 2025 on The CW as new seasons of All American, Penn & Teller: Fool Us and The Chosen join NASCAR Xfinity Series, WWE Nxt, Acc football & basketball, Pac-12 football, Wild Cards, Superman & Lois, The Librarians, Inside the NFL, Sullivan’s Crossing and much more,” said Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment, The CW Network. “Through six seasons, All American remains a top performer for The CW as the network’s most-watched...

The CW Network has given a 13-episode Season 7 renewal to its flagship drama series All American to premiere in 2025. Additionally, the network today announced pickups for Season 11 of unscripted magic competition series Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Season 4 of The Chosen.
The All American news is not surprising since, as Deadline reported, the college drama had been in the strongest position of any remaining legacy CW scripted series to continue.
All American, whose Season 6 renewal was stipulated in Nexstar’s deal to acquire the CW, is a top ratings performer, and it also is the most economically feasible to produce for its studio, Warner Bros. TV, as its license fee, believed to be north of $1M per episode, is the highest among all 3 “old CW” dramas that were up for renewal this year.

All American has survived another round with Nexstar — but there’s a catch.
The CW, currently controlled by station group Nexstar, has renewed All American for an abbreviated 13-episode seventh season that won’t arrive until 2025. A decision on the future of its spinoff, All American: Homecoming, has not yet been determined as the show is currently airing on the network.
The CW also announced that Penn & Teller: Fool Us has been picked up for an 11th season and secured broadcast rights for the fourth season of Jesus drama The Chosen.

NCIS fans fell in love with the on-screen chemistry between agents Ziva David and Tony Dinozzo in the early seasons of the hit TV show NCIS.
While both characters left the show years ago, their names lived on, and the actors were ready to make a guest appearance at any time.
Now, NCIS fans are getting the reunion we've wished for in a surprising way!
Earlier this month, Paramount+ announced the exciting news that fans will get to enjoy yet another NCIS spinoff.
This time, writers have brought back Ziva and Dinozzo, along with their daughter Tali. Here's everything we know about the unnamed NCIS Tiva TV series.
What is the Story Behind the NCIS Tony and Ziva Spinoff?

While many people have joked about the quality of production at The CW, the network has become home to many beloved television series. From Supernatural to The Vampire Diaries to the entirety of the DC Universe shows, everyone fell in love with at least one of them.
Sadly, that era is now over. However, the future still looks bright for The CW's 2024/2025 broadcast season. And even though the majority of scripted series have yet to be renewed, there are plenty of shows on the schedule to get excited about.

It's been nearly a year since we last saw the Man of Steel on our screens, but The CW has confirmed today that Superman & Lois returns for its fourth and final season this fall.
The show will be part of the network's 2024 - 2025 schedule and is one of only a handful of scripted series set to air over that period (a result of Nexstar acquiring The CW and moving away from pricey dramas).
While we don't have a specific premiere date, we can confirm Superman & Lois is moving from Tuesday nights to Thursday nights. That's quite a departure seeing as its first three seasons aired on a Tuesday, but the reason for the change is The CW's acquisition of WWE Nxt.
That takes a two-hour timeslot on Tuesdays, leaving no room for the iconic DC Comics character.
Brad Schwartz, President of entertainment for The CW, recently promised that...

All American and Walker are two of The CW’s biggest shows.
So, it was somewhat of a surprise that neither show has been handed a renewal and a spot on the network’s fall schedule, which was unveiled this morning.
The CW bosses Dennis Miller and Brad Schwartz explained why this is the case but said that there are ongoing conversations with the studios behind these shows with Schwartz promising that a decision on All American will happen “soon”.
Both shows are expensive and as Deadline has explained before, financials for all three homegrown dramas are challenging, particularly for Walker, which won’t be able to continue unless its very low license fee is raised by the network.
Schwartz, who is President of Entertainment at The CW, told Deadline, “We didn’t feel any need to rush to meet some Upfront deadline. All American is on the air right now,...

The CW Network today announced it will launch its seven-night 2024-25 primetime schedule in the Fall of 2024 with an array of new and returning original scripted series, family-friendly game shows, fan-favorite unscripted series, and the continued expansion of CW Sports with the network debuts of WWE Nxt, Pac-12 college football, and the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
“The Fall 2024 season is another leap forward in the bold transformation of The CW Network, as we continue building a media brand with broadcast at its core,” said Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment at The CW Network.

The CW has unveiled its slate for the fall 2024-2025 season with returning favorites and new titles, including the expansion of the network’s CW Sports content. Hit scripted series Superman & Lois will return for its final season, and it’s the only pre-Nexstar era show currently on the schedule for next season. Canadian drama series Sullivan’s Crossing is also set to return. This means popular scripted dramas such as Walker, All American, and All American: Homecoming remain in limbo. None of those shows appear on the fall lineup and aren’t confirmed to return at midseason either. “No decisions have been made yet on those titles,” a network representative told TVLine. Instead, the lineup includes new scripted programming, including Joan, starring Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, and The Librarians: The Next Chapter, a spinoff of the original fantasy adventure series The Librarians. In terms of unscripted, the CW...

Exclusive: Noah Wyle has signed with Verve for representation.
The actor, producer and director who has led multiple hit series to date, recently re-teamed with fellow ER alums John Wells and R. Scott Gemmill on another medical drama, The Pitt, which Wyle will star in and executive produce. The series, which has received a 15-episode order by Max, is described as a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh.
Wyle headlined The Librarian franchise that includes three made-for-tv movies as well as the TV series of the same name. The Librarians are ready to make some noise again, by way of a spinoff coming to The CW — and TVLine has your exclusive first look at the brand-new team, above.
A spinoff of TNT’s three movies-and-four seasons franchise, The CW’s The Librarians: The Next Chapter centers on Vikram Chamberlin (played by Jamestown‘s Callum McGowan), a protean genius, swashbuckler and Librarian from the year 1847 who accidentally time-travels to present-day Central Europe and now finds himself stuck here. The streaming services are starting to make medical dramas, which until now have been the exclusive terrain of broadcast networks, and Max just one-upped its competitors.
On Tuesday, Max announced a 15-episode, straight-to-series order for “The Pitt,” a medical drama that will reunite “ER” executive producer John Wells and star Noah Wyle.
Wyle will star and serve as executive producer. Wyle is a five-time Emmy nominee for his performance as charismatic doctor John Carter on the iconic medical procedural “ER.” He is also known for the fantasy series “The Librarians” and the sci-fi series “Falling Skies.”
“NCIS: Los Angeles” showrunner and Emmy-nominated “ER” writer and producer R. Scott Gemmill will serve as showrunner.
The series hails from John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

I would have expected the new indie anthology film Beware the Boogeyman to have come out a while back, closer to the release of the widely hyped Stephen King adaptation, The Boogeyman. The inspiration is obvious, one scene even has a character holding a copy of Night Shift, the collection of King’s stories that brought it to most people’s attention. In any case, it’s out now and wants you to believe in it.
Beware the Boogeyman opens with Dr. Tristan Makenzie the newest potential addition to Silverdale Psychiatric Hospital’s staff going in for her orientation on, of all days, a Sunday. Dr. Gabey Moon meets...

It's been over six years since TNT's The Librarians came to an end, but fortunately, there's more on the way.
The CW has its own spin on The Librarians, coming up with The Librarians: The Next Chapter.
What's coming next for The Librarians? Let's take a look at what we know about the new series.
How did The Librarians End?
The series finale of The Librarians was bittersweet at the time that it aired.
It had a happy ending, but it was the last episode of a beloved show.
For a while, it seemed that Nicole Noone got her way in The Librarians Season 4 Episode 12, "The Echoes of Memory."
The Library had been destroyed, and Eve was all alone with Flynn being held captive, her Librarians were gone, and Jenkins was dead.

The Librarians lives on in a follow-up series!
The CW has ordered The Librarians: The Next Chapter, a follow-up to the TNT series The Librarians.
Per TVLine, the series follows “a Librarian from the past, who time traveled to the present, and now finds himself stuck here. When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians.”
The Librarians began as a series of made-for-tv movies starring Noah Wyle as Flynn Carsen in 2004’s Quest for the Spear, 2006’s Return to King Solomon’s Mines and 2008’s Curse of the Judas Chalice, and later recurred on The Librarians, which aired for four seasons between 2014 and 2018.
And we already know some familiar faces and new stars joining the series!

"Night Court" was part of the legendary NBC Thursday night lineup back in the mid-1980s. It ran in a block with "The Cosby Show," "Cheers," and "Family Ties," a proud part of a sitcom renaissance that lasted through to the end of the decade. Of that lineup, "Night Court" was the black sheep, offering up broader characters, wackier scenarios, and a surrealist tone that kept it just a few steps removed from reality. The series was set in a Manhattan Criminal Court, but only during its night shift, when all the weird cases came in. Harry Anderson played Judge Harry Stone, although the late hours had made him playfully unbalanced. Also often on the night shift was prosecutor Dan Fielding (John Larroquette), a lascivious narcissist and amusingly crude a-hole.
Larroquette was exceptional in the role. "Night Court" ran from 1984 to 1992, and Larroquette won Primetime Emmys four of those years,...

Before joining The Walking Dead universe as Pearl Thorne in The Ones Who Live, Lesley-Ann Brandt starred in a variety of roles for TV and film. The South African actor is well-known for taking on projects in horror, fantasy, and other traditionally “nerdy” genres, having appeared in shows like Gotham, The Librarians, and most notably Lucifer.
With a variety of roles under her belt, here’s where else you’ve seen Lesley-Ann Brandt before.
Lucifer
As mentioned previously, Brandt is most known for her role as Lucifer’s (Tom Ellis) right-hand Mazikeen in the hit TV series Lucifer. Mazikeen a.k.a. Maze is known for her fierce loyalty, though she sometimes struggles to adapt her brash nature to the human world. Brandt does a phenomenal job of portraying Maze’s growth from demon with a penchant for sadistic torture to a slightly more vulnerable and human demon with a penchant for sadistic torture.

The NBC sitcom "Night Court" was a satirical take on the zany and chaotic underworld of the midnight shift at the courthouse. With an unconventional, free-loving judge at the helm of this circus, there's no telling what might happen. The series was such a massive hit that it ran for nine whole seasons, featuring a cast of relatively unknown actors that, when assembled, formed one of the most acclaimed ensembles of all time. The show won eight Primetime Emmys and was nominated no less than 32 times. "Night Court" won in a variety of categories, but the actor that ended up taking home the most gold was John Larroquette, who played egotistical D.A. Dan Fielding.
A "Night Court" reboot landed on NBC in 2023. Sadly, few members of the original cast are still around to reprise their old roles, and the show is comprised almost entirely of new characters. Harry Anderson,...

If there’s a funny show on TV, it’s a pretty good bet that Richard Kind has appeared on it.
The veteran actor has logged memorable guest appearances on dozens of TV comedies over the years, along with regular stints on Mad About You and Spin City, among others. So it’s no surprise that Kind pops up on this Tuesday’s Night Court (NBC, 8/7c) as unscrupulous Broadway producer Sy, who lands in court after getting caught selling fake theater memorabilia. So did Kind base this character on any Broadway producers he may have worked with?

When Paramount launched CBS All Access in 2017, the service's flagship show was "Star Trek: Discovery," the first new Trek series to air since the cancellation of "Star Trek: Enterprise" in 2005. It was a reason to celebrate, but also a source of skepticism. Some were happy to see "Star Trek" updated for the streaming age and appreciated the franchise's shift to something more violent and incidental. Others bristled at the sloppy writing, the poor characterization, and the showrunner's bend away from the stodgy intellectualism that is Trekkies' bread and butter. "Discovery" has been a sticking point among Trekkies ever since its debut; one needn't look too far to find arguments online over its quality.
In 2020, CBS All Access debuted "Star Trek: Picard," a series that followed up on one of the main characters from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" several decades later. It, too, was a source of fan controversy, likewise...

One might note that Frakes' character, Commander Riker, didn't appear much in that episode. This kicked off a full-blown directorial career for Frakes that hasn't slowed since. Frakes directed eight episodes of "NextGen" in total, as well as the feature films "Star Trek: First Contact" (1996) and "Star Trek: Insurrection" (1998).
Frakes would go on to direct "Thunderbirds" and "Clockstoppers," and enter a prolific career helming episodes of high-profile TV shows like "Leverage," "NCIS: Los Angeles," "Burn Notice," and "The Librarians." He also stayed within the Trek family over the years, directing episodes of "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager," "Discovery," "Picard," and the notable crossover between "Strange New Worlds" and "Lower Decks." He even oversaw two episodes of "The Orville," which...

It was announced back in March of 2023 that the upcoming fifth season of "Star Trek: Discovery" would be its last. This marks the end of an era, as Paramout+ -- back when it was called CBS All Access -- launched with the premiere of "Discovery" in 2017. Meanwhile, the third and final season of "Star Trek: Picard" wrapped earlier this year, "Star Trek: Prodigy" will end after its upcoming second season, and the extant episodes have been pulled from the service entirely. The glut of new "Star Trek" is now seemingly at an end.
"Discovery" has struggled its whole life. It infamously abandoned the traditional episodic structure of "Star Trek," skewing toward the more popular, modern full-season story arcs. It also drastically redesigned the franchise, including new technologies and reworked aliens that looked nothing like what came before. "Discovery" was also far more violent than Trek had ever been, featuring regular murders at the hands of,...

Christian Kane has played essentially the same character in four delightful light crime series. In “Leverage” and its successor, “Leverage: Redemption,” he was Elliot. In “The Librarians,” he was Jake. In this incarnation, “Almost Paradise: Season 2,” he’s Alex. All have some sort of military or intelligence background to prepare them for the current undertakings. Each time Kane’s character is smarter than he looks, does his thing with a grim sense of humor, and is tougher than all he must oppose. Underneath the surface of surly, he’s noble, loyal to his colleagues, and hell-bent on helping whoever needs it. He’s always reluctant to use violence but in just about every episode of each, he has to. And does it well. 180 times, collectively. Yet even after all those cloned outings,...

The lineup for the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con has been unveiled, giving attendees – and those refreshing their browsers the entire weekend – a little less to look forward to but still plenty of panels, reveals and anniversary spotlights. The 2023 Comic-Con is a far more limited affair this year due to major players like Marvel, Sony, Universal, Disney, and more dropping out at least partly due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. And with deadlines on the potential Screen Actors Guild strike quickly approaching, could only harm the event even more.
Here are some of the highlights of the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con:
Thursday, July 20th:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem – “Paramount Pictures brings a panel discussion and footage presentation with filmmakers.”
Project K – “From the heartland of India emerges a unique tale that intertwines ancient mythology with cutting-edge science fiction, all within the captivating Spice Punk aesthetic. Welcome to Project K,...

Rebecca Romijn says she didn’t speak out about the misconduct allegations against her two former X-Men directors, Bryan Singer and Brett Ratner, because others had already done so.
While speaking to The Independent about her career journey and why working on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is personally special, The Librarians actress opened up about the controversies around the original X-Men trilogy, which was distributed by 20th Century Fox, with the first two installments directed by Singer and the third by Ratner.
While other members of the cast have spoken more explicitly about the chaotic and on-set behavior they witnessed, in addition to addressing their feelings on the allegations of sexual misconduct around Singer, Romijn has remained mostly silent. According to her, it’s because she didn’t feel like she needed “to say anything else.”
“Yeah, I kind of just… I didn’t feel like I needed to say anything.

A passion project for Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, the TV series Metropolis, inspired by the 1927 sci-fi classic directed by Fritz Lang, was officially ordered by Apple TV+ fifteen months ago. Earlier this year, Briana Middleton (Sharper) and Lindy Booth (The Librarians) were cast to star in the show. But now Deadline reports that Metropolis has been scrapped, becoming “one of the highest-profile casualties of the growing uncertainty in Hollywood” due to the writers strike.
Deadline has learned that Metropolis had been prepping for production in Australia, but has now been permanently shut down. “The crew was just notified that the ambitious project will not move forward with production, which had been targeting a summer start.” A representative for the production company UCP confirmed, “Push costs and uncertainty related to the ongoing strike led to this difficult decision.” They go on to note, “Metropolis had been in limbo for the past seven weeks.

Sam Esmail‘s (Mr. Robot) big-budget sci-fi series Metropolis, based on the 1927 Fritz Lang movie of the same name, has been scrapped amid the ongoing writers strike and rising production costs. As reported by Deadline, the ambitious Apple TV+ series, which had been prepping in Australia, has been permanently shut down, with the crew being notified the project will not be moving forward. Production was scheduled to begin over the summer. “Push costs and uncertainty related to the ongoing strike led to this difficult decision,” a rep for UCP, the production studio behind the series, told Deadline. Briana Middleton (The Tender Bar) was set to lead the series, with Lindy Booth (The Librarians) also tapped for a major role. Based on Thea von Harbou’s 1925 novel and screenplay, Metropolis is set in a futuristic dystopian society, where Freder, the privileged son of a city master, and Maria, a rebellious teacher,...

The CW held its first upfront week meeting with the press since the Nexstar acquisition closed last year, presenting a schedule heavy on foreign acquisitions and unscripted fare.
Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment for The CW, took questions after the presentation alongside network president Dennis Miller. They laid out their plans for the network going into its new era, how the acquisitions play into their overall strategy, and the future of scripted development at the network.

The revamped CW will have some genre programming, after all.
On Thursday, the network picked up a sequel to the TNT series The Librarians.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter is a spinoff of the original TV series, which followed the adventures of the custodians of a magical repository of the world's most powerful and dangerous supernatural artifacts.
The new series centers on a "Librarian" from the past, who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here.
When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent.
He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians.
Electric Entertainment and The CW Network produce the new series.
Dean Devlin serves as executive producer and showrunner along with executive producers Rachel Olschan-Wilson and Marc Roskin.
Jonathan English of Balkanic Media serves as producer.

Though the CW is beginning to pivot much more heavily to reality fare, with “All American” as the only original scripted series on its fall 2023 lineup, the network has added three new scripted projects to its slate for 2024: “Joan,” “The Librarians: The Next Chapter” and “The Swarm.” Additionally, 2024 will see the premieres of unscripted series “Patti Stanger: Millionaire Matchmaking,” “The Force” and “The Great American Bakeover” (all working titles).
All newly announced series are currently in production.
“Joan” stars Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”) as Joan Hannington, the notorious real-life jewel thief. Set in 1980s London, the series sees Joan as a devoted mother to her six-year-old daughter, Kelly, while trapped in a disastrous marriage with a violent criminal named Gary. When Gary goes on the run, Joan seizes the opportunity to adopt new identities and embark on a high-stakes journey to create a new life for herself and Kelly.

The CW is reopening the book on The Librarians, ordering a spinoff of the TNT series five years after its cancellation.
Aptly titled The Librarians: The Next Chapter, the sequel will center on “a ‘Librarian’ from the past, who time traveled to the present, and now finds himself stuck here,” according to the cryptic logline. “When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians.”

The CW announced two new scripted series that are in the works for 2024: Joan, a six-part co-production starring Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner, and The Librarians: The Next Chapter, a spinoff of fantasy adventure series from writer and executive producer Dean Devlin.
Joan is about notorious jewel thief Joan Hannington and is set against the backdrop of the 1980s — an era known for its bold fashion trends, iconic music and cultural shifts. The series opens with Joan, a fiery and uncompromising woman in her twenties who is deeply scarred and vulnerable. She is a devoted mother to her six-year-old daughter, Kelly, but is trapped in a disastrous marriage with a violent criminal named Gary. When Gary goes on the run, Joan seizes the opportunity to create a new life for herself and her daughter. Adopting new identities and making new acquaintances along the way, Joan becomes a masterful jewel thief.
