Lebanon, 1949. The country faces an imminent war. Two Catholic siblings Emilie and Emir, embark on a trip to Brazil seeking better days. During the journey, Emilie falls in love with a Muslim merchant, Omar. Emir succumbs to uncontrollable jealousy and uses their religious differences to drive them apart. Short of reaching their final destination, Emir is seriously wounded in a gun accident during a confrontation with Omar. Emilie's only option is to descend into an indigenous village in the middle of the jungle to find a healer to save him. When her brother recovers, they head to Manaus, where Emilie makes a decision that will lead to tragic consequences.
