Dark.

That's why I like this show. I am reading the book now but so far it's told in the same narrative style and doesn't leave many things out. Beth legitimately reminds me of girls I have been friends with in the past and is extremely relatable. All of the other characters other than Colette French the cheer coach. I suppose I also related to Sam but I don't want to give any spoilers away. This show doesn't hide behind the facade most shows featuring teenager girls do, but instead shows you a gritty truth behind codependency, infatuation, lies, regrets and a true competitive nature. As someone who played sports and has had many girlfriends, this can't be more true. I have never met anyone more competitive than a woman and this show exposes all of the insecurities that come with such a inherent nature.

Can't decide if I like it or not...

This show is not horrible. In fact, it is interesting enough for me to keep watching each episode as it appears on my DVR. However, this show hardly keeps me longing for the next episode. It's a show that is good enough to watch when there is nothing else on, but is by no means a "must see". It's interestingly boring if that makes any sense. The characters are all unlikable, and not in a good way that makes them captivating or sympathetic villains. They are stereotypical mean girls that aren't interesting enough to love or love to hate. The adults aren't any better than the kids as there is not a single role model for the cheerleaders because the adults are all flawed. It tries to sound "deeper" than it really is by having the narrator use phrases like "it was beautiful until it went to far" or "nothing is as scary as a bored teenage girl", but it comes across a little like its trying too hard to be a groundbreaking teenage drama like 13 Reasons Why or Euphoria. I am about 3 episodes in so we will see if it improves as it progresses.

Not sure why it's getting some bad reviews

I kinda expected to see some negative reviews on IMDb as it's basically a forum for whiners to complain these days. And since the cast is mostly female I definitely expected some people to see it as pushing a "feminist agenda". But when reading the negative reviews it seemed these people actually did give the show a chance but it just wasn't for them. Which is fair enough but when saying watching the show was a waste of time, why waste more time writing a review on it?? I never bother writing reviews for something I didn't enjoy. In fact I only ever write reviews for things that not only I enjoyed but I feel are getting a lot of hate for no reason. Like I said, this has become a place for people who simply like to complain. Probably more than watching tv or movies. I mean one user didn't like the show because it was about a cheerleading squad. Erm you could see that from the trailer which is something you should always watch first. So they can't really blame the show for their own stupidity.

The show, in my opinion is good. If, like me, you enjoy mystery dramas, I would say give it a go. If it's not for you, move on to something else. If I want a critical opinion about a show. I'll read something by an actual critic who gets paid to point out flaws. Not some random with a superiority complex who states their own opinions like they're facts. If one of those types is reading this, you're not that special. No matter what your mum tells you.

Intense Friendships and Gripping Mystery

Dare Me is a darkly compelling and utterly addictive series that expertly blends the intense world of competitive high school cheerleading with a gripping mystery. From the very first episode, the show hooks you with its sharp writing, stylish visuals, and an atmosphere thick with tension and unspoken desires.

The performances are phenomenal, particularly the dynamic between Addy Hanlon (Herizen Guardiola) and Beth Cassidy (Marlo Kelly). Their complex and often unsettling friendship forms the emotional core of the series, and both actresses deliver nuanced and captivating portrayals. The arrival of the new coach, Colette French (Willa Fitzgerald), further ignites the drama and introduces a layer of intriguing ambiguity.

What makes Dare Me stand out is its willingness to delve into the darker aspects of teenage life, exploring themes of power, loyalty, jealousy, and sexuality with a refreshing and unflinching honesty. The cheerleading backdrop isn't just window dressing; it's intricately woven into the narrative, serving as a metaphor for the intense competition and high stakes that permeate the characters' lives.

The mystery at the heart of the show unfolds gradually, keeping viewers guessing and constantly shifting their allegiances. Just when you think you have it figured out, Dare Me throws another curveball, ensuring that you remain thoroughly engaged until the very end.

While the show can be intense and at times unsettling, it's this very quality that makes it so captivating. Dare Me is a smart, stylish, and thought-provoking series that will stay with you long after the credits roll. If you're looking for a teen drama with substance, a compelling mystery, and unforgettable characters, then Dare Me is definitely worth checking out.

Great show.

This show made me feel many feelings. It wasn't what I was expecting, but I loved the cast cheer-leading and relationships between the people. Who to trust who not to trust and one clear message always question if your thoughts are your own or from another person.

It's really sad this show is cancelled and we don't see the end of it.

Wrong description!

A senior does not plot revenge against those who expelled her. That is not what the show is about at all... A senior and her besties loyalties are put to the test when a new coach is assigned to their cheerleading squad to bring them to the top! Loyalty, and jealousy ensue. Great show! The acting is fantastic!

Wish there was a season 2

Super suspenseful and chaotic. At times this show was a little slow and other times it was super messy. I do like the darkness behind the show and also the dynamic of the cheer squad.

So dissapointed that there is no season 2

This show was actually much better than usual teen shows with fairytales and boring love stories. It was darker, it showed the hard part of being a cheerleader and the efforts they have to make, unlike most shows where cheerleaders are nothing but popular girls. I'm really dissapointed that there won't be anymore seasons, while other dumb shows last long.

Pompoms and Dirty White Sneakers

For a series I watched about five times now, you would think it deserves 10 stars. While missing the mark by the slightest, I can assert that this has been the most intriguing series yet about cheerleaders. It's not AT ALL like Bring It On or other works that attempt to bring as much depth to cheerleading as Dare Me.

Addy and Beth are best friends in high school, both of which happen to have a knack at cheerleading. Yes, there's some mean girl energy going on, but there's more to these characters than what meets the eye. As you progress through the episodes, you quickly become aware of what these two teenage girls are capable of and the very limits of their friendship.

My one-point deduction comes from some shallow scenes that don't merely meet the depth of others (though this is mostly towards the end of the series). One thing for certain, it wasn't intended to be a limited series, but in a way, it checks out. The drama is messy enough to keep you going but clean enough to avoid soapy-ness. The finale will have your jaw to the floor, and by then you'd have gotten a taste of what it means to be a cheerleader in that small-town world.

A golden find among television series; few shows have the character arcs of Dare Me.

I liked the two main characters Beth and Addy

It is not a masterpiece, it kind of copied Euphoria in my opinion( with the slow motipn shots) but is watchable and it makes you want to know what will happen. I really liked the girls in the squad, they represent really well how teenagers actually are, their conversations are not cringe . Some things could have been a little better done, i do not think the actress that plays Coach is the best for this role, maybe I am wrong. She seems too innocent. Overall i enjoyed it

Not good at all

Boring, unrealistic, bad acting, and not one single character is likable. I keep waiting for something big and exciting to happen and it never does. It always tries to be dramatic and mysterious, but it's not that at all cause nothing happens! I'm disappointed at the end of every episode even though I should be used to it by now. Even if one of the characters does die, I don't think I'll even care at this point especially since I don't like any of them. Don't waste your time watching this like I have.

Dare Me

Though I think it's unfair to write a review based on 2 or 3 episodes, it's true Dare Me moves at a very slow pace. 10 episodes could have been almost halved. The angst of teenage girls is a main theme yet I feel only the surface is scratched. The lead actress who plays Abby is fine but too old and sophisticated looking for the part. A real 16-17 year old would have been more effective. And finally- the finale- the payoff cliffhanger is not worth the long trail to get there.

Many A Movie Has Covered This Same Thing In 2 Hours

I don't hate this, but certainly not the love scale, Even though 8 more episodes to air. I am enjoying the acting of the villain. The coach and best friend just meh so far. As said in title this has been done many a time, different formats. I am curious how this will pan out for full series. There is not a lot to watch with current programs cable wise, (Netflix different ball game) so likely' too watch until end.. I agree with fellow poster with time airing, How is filmed, the soon to be more likely comparisons to Euphoria?! Anyone think or wish this was a series for binging?!6/10

I kinda liked it? I kinda didn't? I was enjoying it, and at some point I was like, wait, what? Really strange connection, sometimes with no point whatsoever. But a show easy to see. 7/10!

Decent but way too long

The first season could be a 2, 2.5 hour film without any loss of quality. I liked how there is no real villian and hero but because it progresses so slow it just becomes boring and predictable. Season 2 seems unlikely but i hope it comes out so there is at least some closure.

Worth an watch, awesome soundtrack

I enjoyed this show, although it does drag a little in places and it has quite a slow pace. Enjoyed the characters, and the storyline but I knew what was coming so don't expect amazing tv. It's worth the try. Favourite thing about the show: the soundtrack

Don't bother utterly pointless

I've sat through every episode hoping that "something" was going to happen. Every episode is like a repeat of the previous one; like they are all stuck in a loop. Nothing really happens. The acting is good but the characters are disjointed leaving them un relatable and eventually becoming irritating. There's no means to an end.....boring, pointless, uninspiring and a waste of time. Honestly, don't bother.

'Dare Me' Accomplishes Its Objective

Televisions shows should be judged, in part at least, by whether it delivers on its implied promise to the intended audience.

'Dare Me' is a young adult show that delivers teen drama to it's intended audience, and actually surpassed my expectations. The show was not produced to be the next 'Breaking Bad,' but it was a successful show if you consider the audience and the intended outcome.

'Dare Me' is a drama/mystery/teen show about a high school drill team's quest for success, it focuses on three main characters - the coach and two team members. The show on the surface appeared to be about teenage drama and angst, but 'Dare Me' takes a strong turn toward crime and mystery - very interesting. 'Dare Me' really picks up steam towards the end of the season, so you should watch all episodes before passing final judgement.

The acting and production is good, while the writing is surprisingly engaging/ twisty for a show in its genre. Best of all, 'Dare Me' does not seem to be on track to progress without any meaningful resolutions like some shows ('Pretty Little Liars' or 'Lost.')

A side note, I have never seen an active duty Marine wear his hair so long - does not affect my review though.

Superbly dark, twisting and gripping

Loved this show. Really dark and a slow burner but constantly gripping. I love how this character led drama built to it's climax rather than teasing about what was going to happen from the outset. Actually liked it more than Euphoria tbh. This new take on cheerleaders (not a lot of pep but a lot of darkness) was incredibly compelling and it didn't dumb down to it's audience which is I guess why some of the reviews say it's too slow. It's deliberately slow, allowing you time to get inside the characters heads and learn who they are. It's a perfect 10 for me.
