With her first two albums, particularly 2022’s Painless, Nilüfer Yanya created an immersive, moody vibe and delivered some of the most irresistible guitar pop this side of Porches. Yanya levels up on both counts on her third studio album, My Method Actor, and intensifies her songwriting game to boot.

The album’s guitar work, courtesy of collaborator Wilma Archer, deals in extremes more so than on Yanya’s previous releases, contrasting naturalistic acoustic licks with splayed-out electric fuzz to maximal effect on tracks like “Like I Say (Runaway).” The guitar playing isn’t overly technical, but Archer and Yanya land on grooves that scratch an almost indescribable emotional itch, as on “Binding,” a devastating song about addiction.

Like Yanya’s past work, My Method Actor is predominantly minor key and melancholic in tone. The lyrics reinforce a lack of personal fulfillment and a search for satisfaction, both internally and interpersonally.

There are several incredible K-drama actors, and many of them have never acted in projects together. This is despite the fact that some actor pairings feel as though they would be perfect choices for any k-drama, fitting all sorts of different genres, covering everything from comedy to crime drama. Many of them have been the subject of perfect k-drama casting before, and with these co-stars they could be again.

Choosing co-stars for any show requires striking a delicate balance, finding what works about an actor's performance and amplifying that quality. It is this sort of chemistry and hard work that has resulted in some of the best k-dramas of all time. More great k-dramas could be made with these actor pairings, and hopefully viewers will have the opportunity to see them share the screen in the future.

Ahead of the release of her September album, titled My Method Actor, the British artist continues the tone set by previous singles “Like I Say (I runaway)” and “Method Actor” — “Call It Love” is similarly intricate and thoughtful. Yanya has a particular knack for taking melodies in unexpected directions, layering in harmonies, and invoking strings that make her music feel that much more layered.

“It takes a certain kind of bravery to fully trust your instincts,” she says of “Call It Love.” “It’s about allowing your calling to lead you, to let it guide you somewhere. Let that consume you and destroy you.”

“Call It Love” is the product of a series of isolated writing and recording sessions, where Yanya dreamed up the vision for this record with her creative partner Wilma Archer.

My Method Actor is based around the theme of entering a transition between one part of life into another and was made during intimate sessions with Yanya’s creative partner Wilma Archer. “This is the most intense album, in that respect,” the artist revealed in a statement. “Because it’s only been us two. We didn’t let anyone else into the bubble.”

Disney+ is boosting its growing K-drama slate with Han River Police, an action comedy series starring Kwon Sang-woo (Stairway to Heaven, Curtain Call) and Kim Hee-won (Netflix’s Unlocked).

Kwon will star as Han Dujin, the hot-tempered sergeant of the Han River Police Force who holds back for nobody, while Kim plays Lee Chunseok, a laid-back lieutenant with the exact opposite personality. Stuck together on patrol of Seoul’s Han River, the two officers are faced with emergency situations ranging from terrorism to everyday accidents and other incidents requiring emergency assistance — a premise that suggests all of the action, humor and offbeat crime-solving of the classic buddy cop genre.

Disney hasn’t released additional casting info for the show, but local news outlet Korea JoongAng Daily reports that Shin Hyeon-seung (So Not Worth It), Lee Sang-yi (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) and Bae Da-bin (Gangnam Beauty) will co-star as other cops on the Han River Police force.
