- When the notorious thief Flambeau declares his intention to steal a valuable blue cross from the church, Father Brown, against the advice of Valentine, decides to take it to safety to Newbury abbey by train. He meets a trio of fellow passengers, one of which he is sure is the thief but his efforts to flush him out lead to the theft of the cross. Facing dismissal for his rash action the Father agrees to meet with Flambeau and do a deal to return the artefact.—don @ minifie-1
- Father Brown receives a mysterious note suggesting that the church's priceless holy relic, the Blue Cross, will be stolen. In the church itself, he finds a handkerchief with the letter F, no doubt left there by the infamous thief Flambeau, wanted across Europe for the theft of priceless artifacts. Bishop Talbot is soon on the scene and makes arrangements to have the cross transported by the police to a safe location. Father Brown decides it would be safer in his possession and sets off on his own. He is out not only out to identify the thief but also to save his soul.—garykmcd
- After notorious French master jewel thief Hercule Flambeau's signature monogrammed handkerchief renders credence to his threat to steal the parish's precious blue cross relic from St. Mary's church, bishop Talbot orders it transferred safely to Newbury abbey by train, but Brown beats inspector Valentine to the escort job. An army chaplain and a loud passenger provide enough diversion for package swaps, leaving empty-handed Brown likely to be deposed. Flambeau contacts him again in the confessional, apparently open to a serious deal.—KGF Vissers
