Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters this week. The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie formally introduces Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) as the new Captain America, taking over from the retired Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). Wilson first picked up the shield in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but this is his first outing as Captain America on the big screen.

The film is directed by Julius Onah and written by the teams of Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, and Onah and Peter Glanz. The cast includes Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Xosha Roquemore, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Giancarlo Esposito, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (taking over the role from the late William Hurt), who makes a much-anticipated transformation into Red Hulk in the film — a decision that didn’t sit well with MCU filmmaker Joe Russo.

“Captain America: Brave New World” (2025) is the 35th film entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you count all the television shows and short films, it will exceed the fortieth mark. More importantly, it is the last sigh of the Disney+ era of the MCU post “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), when the MCU doubled up on its production to feed its streaming service and its legion of fans in the middle of a pandemic.

That above point is important to address because this entire era, covering over five years but mostly three, is one where the monolithic nature of the MCU began to show cracks. A form of quality degradation, subpar VFX work due to overexertion of the VFX department, and interesting stories being hobbled either due to lack of compelling new characters or real-world events adversely affecting the storytelling. That is also not to mention the behind-the-scenes debacle that further exacerbated the situation.

Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and now Deadpool & Wolverine. These are some of the fantastic Marvel Cinematic Universe productions with exquisite visual effects, that have not been nominated for Best Visual Effects Oscars in their respective years.

Even before the Academy Awards ceremony occurs on March 2, any hopes that the MCU could snatch up its first Oscar in this category were crushed when Deadpool & Wolverine failed to receive a Visual Effects nod. The nominations went to Alien: Romulus, Better Man, Dune 2, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Wicked. Although Marvel Studios works with the best technical artists in the business, there is always top-notch competition every year, making their winless streak slightly justifiable. But this year does not particularly have one of the stronger lists of candidates.

Following Spider-Man 2's release in October 2023, the hope was that Insomniac might shift focus to Wolverine ahead of its rumoured 2024/2025 release. The sequel received a mixed response from fans, so the X-Man's game was a chance for the studio to bounce back.

Of course, huge data theft in December 2023 revealed the company's plans for Spider-Man 2 Dlc and even a Venom spin-off, along with various snippets of gameplay footage and major story spoilers for Wolverine. Insomniac appears to have scrapped that Spidey content in response to the breach but what of the fan-favourite X-Man?

Talking to Variety (via GameFragger.com) following Insomniac co-founder Ted Price’s retirement, new co-studio head Chad Dezern said, "We’ve announced Wolverine, and we’d love to talk more about Wolverine, but we have to be like Logan today, and remain very stoic until it’s time to pop the claws down the road.

Music biopics do not always do well at the box office, but A Complete Unknown is a definite exception. To date, the movie has made over $53 million worldwide, and has primarily rolled out in the United States. Actor Faran Tahir is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney+ series ‘Vision Quest,’ a spinoff from WandaVision. Tahir will reprise his role as Raza, the leader of the Ten Rings terrorist organization, a character he first played in 2008’s Iron Man. This marks Tahir’s first MCU appearance in nearly two decades, making his return a noteworthy moment for fans of the franchise.

Raza’s story was last seen in Iron Man, where he orchestrated Tony Stark’s kidnapping to force the creation of a Jericho missile. Although the character appeared to meet his end in the film, the MCU has shown time and again that death isn’t always permanent.

Oh it's an ever so exciting time for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If we're being honest, it's always an exciting time to be a fan of the franchise, but whenever there is a major, potentially game-changing movie or TV series on the horizon, that is more true than ever - because you never know what kind of surprises you're going to get from the projects.

We saw it with Deadpool and Wolverine as that film housed a number of surprise cameos and returns that we weren't expecting (and yet were completely ready for). In the weeks and months leading up to it, rumors were aplenty and comebacks were inevitable, as MCU fans investigated to see if their best theories were true. We saw it even more-so with 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, too.

But the fan theories and rumors are never more rampant than they are leading up to an Avengers movie.

Marvel Studios is set to bring back a villain from the very first MCU movie for the upcoming Disney+ Vision series - but probably not the one you're expecting.

Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will return as Raza, the ruthless leader of the 10 Rings terrorist group who targetted Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in 2008's Iron Man. Raza appeared to meet his end at the hands of Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges), but it's worth noting that we didn't actually see him die when Stane sent his men into the tent to finish off his former ally.

We have no idea why Marvel is utilizing this particular character for the WandaVision spin-off, but it might have something to do with Stark's involvement in Vision's creation. It's also entirely possible that Raza is dead, and will only appear in flashbacks or as some kind of illusion or construct.

Disney+’s Vision series is bringing back another familiar face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Faran Tahir will reprise his role as villain Raza in the upcoming Marvel TV show, a role he played in the original 2008 Iron Man movie, our sister site Deadline reports. In that film, Raza was the leader of the terrorist group known as Ten Rings who imprisoned Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. Raza was betrayed and seemingly killed by Jeff Bridges’ Obadiah Stane — but we all know death is merely a state of mind when it comes to comic books.
