Today is a fantastic day for fans of King, with three film adaptations of the King of Horror's work having made it onto Max for streaming as of March 1st. Those films include the original 1976 Carrie, the 2013 remake of Carrie, and the 1986 coming-of-age drama Stand by Me. The 1976 version of Carrie, starring Sissy Spacek and John Travolta, is considered to be the best of the adaptations of King's 1974 horror novel. However, the 2013 version still has its merits despite its flaws.

Hollywood and anime are interconnected in more ways than you’d think. For decades, American directors like Quentin Tarantino have been inspired by Japanese animation. This also ties well with the actors partaking in animation projects headlined by Japanese Studios but this isn’t boding well in any case.

This is particularly true with a recent dub that has most fans questioning the move altogether. This also reflects upon the history of miscasting actors for prestigious projects. But what it also does is highlight the major issues of dub culture in the anime industry.

Cozy romance is a subgenre that's growing in popularity. They focus on love stories with sweet emotional moments, and they tend to have low stakes. Even if the world they take place in is dangerous, there's a reassuring tone in the love story as it unfolds. The love interests are generally kind to each other, but there's still plenty of tension as their feelings develop.
Cozy romances can take place in cozy settings, too. They are often fantastical worlds full of magical gardens and whimsical side characters. With cozy romance anime, the audience may not know what to expect at every turn, but they can be reassured that everything leads to a happily ever after.

Studio Ghibli films are no stranger to complex ideas and messages, often using the film’s characters, setting or conflicts to encourage viewers to consider their own stances, such as Howl’s views on vanity in Howl’s Moving Castle or Jiro’s dashed dreams of becoming a pilot in The Wind Rises. These moments offer the audience a self-reflective chance to ponder deep internal questions, with the breadth and scope of these questions stretching far and wide thanks to the staggering number of films in Studio Ghibli’s roster.

Hayao Miyazaki’s adaptation of Howl’s Moving Castle is often celebrated as a masterpiece of animation, weaving together a fantastical world of magic, romance, and anti-war sentiments. However, this Studio Ghibli classic is also one of the most polarizing works in Miyazaki’s oeuvre due to its significant departure from the source material — the 1986 novel by British author Diana Wynne Jones.
Howl and Sophie | Credit: Howl’s Moving Castle
Miyazaki’s version of Howl’s Moving Castle focuses more on romantic aspects and depicts a family-friendly and lighthearted tone, and the characters are portrayed as more straightforward and somewhat dramatic. In contrast, Diana Wynne Jones’s novel paints a much grittier portrait of the characters, especially Howl’s.
The Ghibli touch in Howl’s Moving Castle: A romanticized Howl
Hayao Miyazaki‘s adaptation of Howl’s Moving Castle took significant liberties with the source material, softening Howl’s harsher edges and framing him as a tragic hero.

The life of conservationist Jane Goodall is being adapted into a film, with Disney backing the movie. More here.
Dame Jane Goodall, who celebrated her 90th birthday this year, is one of the world’s foremost experts on chimpanzees. She’s dedicated her life and career to studying their behaviour and habits. She pioneered research techniques, and forged her own path in the male dominated world of 1960s science.
Goodall’s former husband, wildlife filmmaker and Dutch nobleman Hugo van Lawick, captured many hours of landmark footage of her work with chimpanzees in the Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania. And her life has already been chronicled in various documentaries, most recently in Brett Morgen’s award winning 2017 documentary Jane. According to Deadline, a fully fledged biopic is now in the works.

Monster movies are a popular subgenre that often features unique, threatening creatures, resulting in exciting and thrilling narratives, but a few monster films over the years have taken longer to earn proper appreciation. Many of these films fall into the horror and science-fiction genre, from the underrated creature film Deep Rising to the now-deemed cult classic Anaconda. The reasons for the poor box office performances of these monster movies include unfortunate release dates, deceptive marketing, and unintentional campy tones audiences couldn't get behind.
Regardless of whether audiences have changed their tune about such monster movies, the response upon the films' release was less than enthusiastic. Though it's understandable why a handful of monster films were unsuccessful, it's a shame considering they contain enjoyable components that should have been more than enough to lead them to success at the box office.

For years now, mugs, tumblers and similar drinkware products have been staple collector's items for fans across many brands and franchises. Studio Ghibli fans may therefore be especially happy to see the return of the company's Howl's Moving Castle and Whisper of the Heart mugs to its official store, with the merchandise combining functionality with uniquely appealing stained glass-style artwork.
Donguri Sora, Studio Ghibli's official online store, recently showcased its newly restocked Howl's Moving Castle and Whisper of the Heart mugs, which many may consider to be stunning art pieces in themselves. Released as part of the studio's "Donguri Closet" line, which specializes in merchandise targeted toward adult women, the mugs depict scenes taken directly from their respective films. The former shows Howl pulling Sophie gently through the air, while the latter portrays a similar 'air-walking' scene with Shizuku and the Baron, as well as a more 'grounded' one with...

Anime mages represent one of the most common type of characters in the medium, given just how popular fantasy worlds of sword and sorcery are. Yet even among the numerous wizards and witches that lead the stories beloved by anime fans, some stand clearly above the others in terms of raw power and expertise over magic.
Magic is one of the more versatile sources of power, as it can take any form and make use of any element, whether natural or not. Some mages prefer to specialize in a certain type of magic, devoting themselves to mastering their craft, while others are more keen on learning a large variety of spells, ensuring their arsenal is equipped with a solution to every issue they could possibly encounter.

Studio Ghibli is one of the most famous and beloved anime studios ever. Since its formation in 1985, the studio has produced many beloved and critically praised movies. The studio's number and variety of films often spark intense fan debates about which film from Studio Ghibli's vast catalog is the best introduction for newcomers. If you skim through any forum where this question is asked, Howl's Moving Castle generally comes out as the consensus choice. But is it really the best introduction to the legendary studio?
Released in 2004 and directed by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki, Howl's Moving Castle follows a young milliner named Sophie. Sophie's world is turned upside down when she meets a strange and eccentric wizard named Howl while out on a walk. This meeting leaves a massive impression on Sophie, but it also causes her issues as, a short while later, the Witch of the Waste appears and transforms Sophie into a grandma.

Every year, Nippon TV holds a 24-hour telethon designed to raise money for various environmental and disaster relief charities in Japan. This year, Studio Ghibli assisted its parent company by creating a canine mascot for Nippon TV's new charity TV shirt line.
Per Nippon TV's official website, Studio Ghibli Managing Director Goro Miyazaki recently created new artwork featuring a disgruntled-looking dog that resembles Heen, the lovable elderly dog from Ghibli's 2004 film Howl's Moving Castle. As shown below, the accompanying text reads, "Will Love Save the Earth?" -- an active nod to the Telethon's recurring "Love Saves the Earth" theme. Goro's Heen lookalike will be Nippon TV's charity mascot this year, appearing on white, yellow and gray T-shirts that are scheduled to hit Aeon store shelves starting July 4. At the time of writing, the retail price (including tax) is approximately 2,000 yen (or US$12.52). A portion of proceeds from all shirt sales will be donated to charity.

Studio Ghibli produces thoughtfully written protagonists, villains, love interests, and side characters. Hayao Miyazaki said that he thinks it's very important to write as many complex and strong female protagonists as he does male protagonists. Each protagonist goes through change, adapting and growing through their situation, taking a step closer to the person they're meant to be.
There are many kinds of character arcs. Characters like San from Princess Mononoke and Howl from Howl's Moving Castle must figure out their values and how best to live by them. Younger protagonists, like Shizuku from Whisper of the Heart and Ponyo, figure out their place in the world.

Howl's Moving Castle is a film animated by Studio Ghibli. It features stunning visuals as well as an engaging, imaginative story. Although set in a fantasy world full of magic, many viewers can relate to the main lead, Sophie, who slowly learns to be brave and love herself.
She sets out on a journey to break her curse, helping others along the way. Although this film was very enjoyable, it has many confusing elements that no amount of magic can explain away. These flaws include some of the movie's visuals, settings, and even the way the characters are used. While these parts of the film are confusing, they still don't stop Howl's Moving Castle from being one of Studio Ghibli's most iconic films.
