The Clooney Foundation for Justice, the human rights campaign group established by George and Amal Clooney, has petitioned the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention over the death in custody of Thai activist Netiporn “Bung” Sanesangkhom.
Sanesangkhom died on May 14 following a 65-day hunger strike after repeatedly being denied bail while facing charges of insulting the monarchy (lèse majesté). She was 28.
The Clooney Foundation’s TrialWatch unit says that it is “seeking remedies for violations of Netiporn’s rights, including reparations for her family and, more broadly, an opinion from the Working Group urging Thailand to stop misusing detention to stifle criticism of the monarchy.”
Sanesangkhom had been in and out of prison following charges relating to her involvement in an informal opinion poll in February 2022, which sought the public’s views on whether the royal family’s motorcades were an inconvenience to the public. Thai authorities allege this...

Squid Game: The Challenge may not be as big as the show that inspired it, but the competition series still got off to a very strong start.
Netflix’s unscripted offshoot of its most popular series of all time scored a strong opening in the Nielsen streaming rankings for Thanksgiving week. Adam Sandler’s animated movie Leo claimed the top spot overall, and Young Sheldon also joined the top 10 after making its Netflix debut.
Squid Game: The Challenge drew 1.42 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Nov. 20-26. It was the top streaming series for the week, beating out Bluey (1.17 billion minutes) on Disney+, and finished second overall behind the 1.53 billion minutes for Leo.
The Crown, which finished first overall the previous week, slipped to second among originals with 835 million minutes of viewing, an 11.5 percent decline from a week earlier. Disney+’s The Santa Clauses...

First debuting on Netflix in 2021 and releasing its second season in March 2023, the fantasy series Invisible City, created by Carlos Saldanha, has been announced not to return for a third season.
Numerous Brazillian X accounts were Tweeting about the show’s cancelation, but most didn’t name the source. Thankfully, we dug and found that the actor Marco Pigossi was ultimately behind the cancelation news. Pigossi plays the main character, Eric, in the show.
In a post on Instagram on December 16th, the actor doesn’t explicitly say the show was canceled but does bid farewell to his character.

Sadly, those numbers likely weren’t enough to warrant future seasons. Google Trends suggests the global interest in the show was over 50% less going into the second season.

The final season of The Crown got off to a slower start in Nielsen’s streaming rankings — which might have something to do with the fact that Netflix released only a part of the season.
The Emmy-winning drama was the most watched show on streaming for the week of Nov. 13-19, but its 943 million minutes of viewing was less than half of that for season five’s opening (2.13 billion minutes) a year ago. It’s worth noting that Netflix released just four of The Crown’s final 10 episodes on Nov. 16 rather than the full season; the remaining six debuted Dec. 14 (and, because of the four-week lag for Nielsen’s streaming charts, watch time figures for those episodes won’t be public until mid-January).
The Crown was the only original series in Nielsen’s overall top 10. David Fincher’s Netflix movie The Killer finished 10th with 557 million minutes of viewing, but...

Criminal Code creator Heitor Dhalia shared a hopeful update about the unannounced Season 2 of the hit Netflix show.
The Portuguese streaming series follows a team of South American lawmen as they pursue the perpetrators of a large-scale robbery.
While based on true events (taking inspiration from the 2017 Ciudad del Este heist), the show is a work of fiction, telling its story over eight hour-long episodes.

Turns out, it wasn’t much of a challenge at all.
“Squid Game: The Challenge” dominated Netflix’s overall leaderboard in its debut week, when it drew 20.1 million views. The unscripted competition series picked up where the I.P. left off in 2021, bumping Part 1 of “The Crown’s” sixth season to second place (8.8 million views) for the week of November 20, 2023.
“Squid Game: The Challenge,” filmed in the UK, is an English-language series; Og “Squid Game” was a Korean-language series dubbed into local languages. As such, the scripted show technically rests atop Netflix’s “Non-English” list, though it blows away all the English-language stuff anyway.
“The Challenge” was so big it brought “Squid Game” back to the Global Top 10 for non-english series — at no. 6 with 1.6 million views — its 21st appearance. The scripted show hadn’t made the list since the week ending June 19, 2022. The long Thanksgiving holiday weekend sure helped the streams pile up.

Criminal Code is Brazil’s new entry in the sea of police procedurals on Netflix. The show follows Benício, a cop who lost his partner in a crossfire in a prison about three months earlier. Now, he is keen on catching the guy who killed him, but it’s all mixed up in a large robbery scheme that is transborder. The Foz police department is in for something huge as they try to solve a massive robbery that links to the underworld of crime syndicates that have taken over the Brazil-Paraguay border. The show begins with a massive robbery at Progard that leads our lead detective, Benício, to the heart of his search for the guy who killed his dear partner. He’s also guilt-ridden because his partner was hungover thanks to his own greed for more on the night before that terrible day.

‘Criminal Code’ Review: Netflix Brazilian Series Is A Detailed Action Thriller That Demands Patience
The Brazilian TV show Criminal Code can drive one nuts with its winding car chases and fantastically shot gun-fights, but if you’re not one to care so much for the details, this show may feel extremely overwhelming. The show does manage to include some comical moments that give a very colloquial feel to the police force that we’re following in this story. The show is divided into multiple subplots, mainly about a beat-up federal cop, namely Benício, trying to get revenge for the death of his partner, and a massive criminal organization that crosses borders and wreaks havoc. The show is a thriller that delivers an electrifying mix of intense gunfights and high-speed chase scenes. The thriller delivers a massive punch with its speedy car chases and Fps-like gunfights that often feel like a high-budget music video with Brazilian rap music in the background.

Criminal Code is a Brazilian series directed by Heitor Dhalia, starring Pedro Caetano, Maeve Jinkings, and Thomás Aquino.
If you’re into thrillers, action, and criminal intrigue, this new series has all the elements to captivate you. Its realistic setting, well-defined characters, and gripping police stories, presented in a style that combines handheld camerawork with expertly crafted editing, make it truly compelling.
The series offers a fast-paced, expertly filmed action-packed storyline revolving around the lives of dedicated police officers.
About the series
“Criminal Code” is primarily a police procedural series that leans more towards pulse-pounding action rather than the tragic realism of “Hill Street Blues.” It explores the psychology of its characters, albeit briefly, without delving into the dramatic side of the story or approaching it as a tragedy. This series is all about action, and it definitely delivers.

The latest feature from David Fincher, a big-budget drama series from Steven Knight and Shawn Levy, and an Oscar hopeful starring Annette Bening and Jodie Foster are among the standout new additions hitting Netflix in November.
With The Killer, Fincher reteams with Seven writer Andrew Kevin Walker to adapt the graphic novel written by Alexis Nolent. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival this year and debuts on Netflix on Nov. 10, stars Michael Fassbender as a shadowy unnamed assassin and features a cast that includes Arliss Howard, Charles Parnell, Gabriel Polanco, Kerry O’Malley, Emiliano Pernía, Sala Baker, Sophie Charlotte and Tilda Swinton.
The Hollywood Reporter‘s review of The Killer described the film as “a satisfyingly retro, location-hopping genre exercise with fisticuffs, gadgets (albeit ones bought from Amazon) and smooth-talking antagonists that all plays like a tongue-in-cheek spoof of James Bond movies.”
