Now, comedic actor Ike Barinholtz has turned his attention to satire, playing a film executive in the new Apple TV+ comedy series The Studio, which follows a struggling Hollywood movie studio and its newly appointed head of film production (Seth Rogen) and features an epic list of guest stars that includes Martin Scorsese, Bryan Cranston, Steve Buscemi, Ron Howard, and more. The Chicago native recently chatted with us about his role and answered questions about the show. The Studio is different than some of the shows you’ve done. How did you get involved with the show? Ike Barinholtz: Many, many years ago, I was talking to Seth Rogen, and he was like, “Hey, we’re writing a show about Hollywood. There’s a part that we’re writing for you.

No one will mistake The Bondsman for the next Supernatural, but it’s the closest we’ve gotten in a while—maybe even the most enjoyable. The new Kevin Bacon series embraces an engaging monster-of-the-week format, featuring demons running amok and serving up a satisfying blend of horror and thriller fun.

It also helps that Kevin Bacon leads the show with his signature laid-back charm and effortless charisma, making him instantly watchable. While The Bondsman takes a few episodes to find its groove, it ultimately becomes a monster mash of thrills, chills, and howls, keeping the story fresh and entertaining for viewers.

While the argument rages on, there were plenty of laughs when a trio of comedy showrunners — St. Denis Medical’s Eric Ledgin, Laid’s Nahnatchka Khan, and The Four Seasons’ Lang Fisher — took the stage at SXSW’s Film and TV Music Festival for a panel titled “Funny Af Comedy Showrunners,” moderated by Gold Derby’s editor-in-chief.

“If the show is making you laugh, I guess it’s a comedy,” says Ledgin. “I don’t know that the categorization matters to me. I thought Succession was one of the funniest shows on television.”

Khan agrees that dramas can offer plenty of laughs. “Sopranos was very funny, too,” she says. “The best comedy has a lot of drama. But I do appreciate actual jokes.”

Agrees Fisher, “I wish there were more super funny, really silly shows,” she says.

During a recent appearance on the “Pod Meets World” podcast, Park recalled an uncomfortable environment on set for Asian actors.

“It was at the time, I felt it was kind of a toxic environment,” Park said. “James Hong was the actor who was also on the episode with me, and [the assistant director] was calling him to the set and you know, essentially saying, ‘Where the fuck is the Oriental guy? Get the Oriental guy.’”

Friends actor Stephen Park is looking back at a racist incident he experienced while filming the hit sitcom in the 1990s.

The actor, who appeared in two episodes of the show — “The One With the Chicken Pox” in season two and “The One With the Ultimate Fighting Champion” in season three — recalled working on Friends during a recent episode of the Pod Meets World podcast.

Minghella will star as Whitney Halberstram, described as “the CFO and Founder of Tender, a payment processor entering a growth phase.” He will appear alongside returning cast members like Myha’la, Marisa Abela, Ken Leung, Sagar Radia, Kit Harington as Sir Henry Muck, and Miriam Petche.

Minghella received an Emmy nomination for his role as Commander Nick Blaine in the critically-acclaimed Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale.” He also previously appeared in the popular Fox/Hulu comedy “The Mindy Project.” In film, Minghella is known for roles in projects like “The Social Network,” “Spiral,” “Babylon,” and “The Ides of March.”

Mindy Kaling is returning to Hulu, with the streamer greenlighting Kaling’s new comedy series “Not Suitable for Work.”

The show was first reported to be in the works at Hulu in April 2024 under the working title “Murray Hill.” It landed at Hulu in a competitive situation with a script-to-series commitment.

Per the official logline, the show “centers around five work-obsessed twenty-somethings striving for professional success and, if they have time, personal happiness in Manhattan’s most glamorous neighborhood, Murray Hill.”

Kaling is the creator of the series and executive produces under her Kaling International banner. Charlie Grandy will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment also executive producing. Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling and Grandy are under overall deals, is the studio.

The order for Not Suitable for Work comes a week and change before another series from Kaling, Running Point, premieres on Netflix. Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls, meanwhile, is awaiting word on whether it will return for a fourth season.
