Dylan's dinner one-take speech was actor Ben Hunter's first performance with the ensemble. No-one besides the lead Mackenzie Fearnley had rehearsed or performed with Hunter before this point.
The 'pheromones' effect was done practically. A camping stove was held below the camera lens and slowly raised during the take.
The opening credits sequence where Louie tries to catch a bird inside the cottage was unscripted. Cinematographer Roger Stonehouse chose to film a bird that happened to fly onto set one day, which was then caught and released by Jack Clark. Shots of Louie trying to catch the bird were filmed separately.
For the first few months of post-production, the team didn't have access to an editing suite, so co-directors Jack Clark and Jim Weir, and editor Ben Anderson each took a third of the movie to edit on their personal computers before compiling the three parts to make their first cut.
