The Producers Guild of America will honor Dana Walden with its Milestone Award at the 2025 PGA Awards.

Walden, Disney Entertainment’s co-chairman, will accept the award at the 36th ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. The prestigious Milestone Award honors industry producers that have made historic contributions to the entertainment industry.

Past Milestone Award recipients include Steven Spielberg, Bob Iger, Sherry Lansing, George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy, Clint Eastwood, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, Donna Langley and Charles D. King.

“Her (Walden’s) leadership, first as CEO of Fox Television Group and now as co-chairman overseeing Disney’s global television portfolio, has had a major impact on the business. We are proud to recognize her exceptional and long-standing work in this industry,” PGA presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line said in a joint statement.

For her part, Walden shared her success with industry collaborators.

Exclusive: Jennifer Holland, who has played Agent Emilia Harcourt in James Gunn’s DC movie The Suicide Squad and spinoff series Peacemaker, has signed with Strand Entertainment for representation.

Holland has reprised the tough-as-nails Harcourt in such DC movies as Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Season 2 of Peacemaker began production back in the spring. The series follows John Cena’s Suicide Squad anti-hero as he’s enlisted for the enigmatic A.R.G.U.S. black ops squad for “Project Butterfly”. His mission is to find and eliminate parasitic butterfly-like creatures who have taken over human bodies. The second season will reportedly premiere after Gunn’s Superman which doesn’t hit theaters until July 11, 2025. Gunn will direct some episodes with Greg Mottola directing others. Tim Meadows is part of season 2.

One of the most popular classic rock songs for the Halloween season is Donovan’s “Season of the Witch.” The “Hurdy Gurdy Man” singer once said the track was “prophetic.” When asked to explain the song’s meaning, he didn’t mention anything about real witches. Instead, he connected “Season of the Witch” to a major American subculture.

Exclusive: Charades has acquired international sales rights to glam gore zombie comedy Queens of the Dead by Tina Romero, daughter of legendary director George A. Romero, ahead of the AFM.

The cast, revealed by Deadline earlier this year, features Jaquel Spivey (Mean Girls), Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding), Margaret Cho (Fire Island), Brigette Lundy-Paine (I Saw The TV Glow) and Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story).

Hulu has given out a pilot order to Nick Paley’s comedy “Phony” with Connie Britton now set for a lead role, Variety has learned.

The pilot is described as a coming-of-age mystery. The official logline states that it follows “a teenager who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident to discover his mom (Britton) — his only parent and his best friend — appears to have been replaced by an impostor.”

Britton’s character is named Ellen, who is described as “a single mom to Sonny and the principal of his high school.”

The project was originally set for development at Hulu in 2022. Paley serves as writer, executive producer, and director on the pilot. Paley most recently co-wrote the popular indie film “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On” and previously served as a director on “Broad City” at Comedy Central.

The verdict is in on the CBS reboot of “Matlock.” The Tiffany network renewed the legal drama for a second season after only two episodes aired.

In making the announcement, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said, “This reconceived ‘Matlock’ was devised by Jennie Snyder Urman with a brilliant surprise plot twist, and we knew we had something very special the moment we saw the first episode brought to life by the incredibly talented Kathy Bates. The audience reception and critical acclaim for it has been overwhelming. We can’t wait to get started on a second season.”

Bates plays a society matron, Madeline Kingston, who masquerades as Madeline “Matty” Matlock to wangle a job at the law firm that she holds responsible for her daughter’s death from opioid addiction. This dual role is a meaty one for the Oscar winner and seems certain to bring her plenty more awards hardware.

“Beef” is officially moving forward with a second season at Netflix, with Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny set to star.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown has a hard time fitting in with other slasher remakes, essentially because it’s not really a remake to begin with. At least not in the traditional sense. Director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon and screenwriter Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa instead went beyond the expectations of most horror remakes. In lieu of mere reconstructions and callbacks, they offered a multifaceted story that acknowledges the 1976 film and its real-life basis. The end result is a movie within a movie that escapes simple classification. Marisa Tomei read for Cuoco's character Penny — who was also played by a different actress in the show's original, unaired pilot — and Kevin Sussman originally auditioned for the lead role of Howard Wolowitz (which went to Helberg in the end) before getting his own supporting character. Ryan Murphy can’t stop winning this year. “American Horror Stories” hit No. 1 on Hulu’s Top 15 Today the week of its debut, making it the eighth Murphy show to hit dominate viewership in 2024.

“It’s like having eight children and they all got accepted to college,” Murphy told TheWrap. “I’m like, ‘Ok, well, I did my job.’ It feels good.”

It’s an unprecedented winning streak that started in January with the star-studded “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans” from Murphy, Jaffe Cohen and Michael Zam, a series that was nominated for 10 Emmys and won for Outstanding Period Costumes for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. It was then followed by the second half of “American Horror Story: Delicate” in April, a season that was showrun by Halley Feiffer and led by Emma Roberts and Kim Kardashian. Both jumped to the No. 1 spot on Hulu’s Top 15 list after their premieres.

Ryan Murphy has heard the questions about the naming conventions of his various FX series, but he doesn’t see the validity in them.

The TV mogul tells Deadline that he would “strongly disagree” with suggestions that Grotesquerie should have been under the American Horror Story banner, or that Aaron Hernandez’s story would’ve been better suited as a new installment of American Crime Story rather than the first in a new anthology series, American Sports Story.

“Grotesquerie has nothing in common with American Horror Story. It just does not. I think it’s the difference between doing Don’t Look Now and Halloween would could never have fit into that show. It was never considered for that. It’s a much different animal,” he said of the new horror series starring Niecy Nash, which revealed a huge turn in the story that Murphy and FX Chief John Landgraf also discussed with Deadline.

There was a lot of promise in American Horror Stories — an episodic anthology horror series — when it was first announced as a companion piece to American Horror Story proper. American Horror Stories’ first season was a lackluster effort that oddly felt compelled to needlessly connect its stories to American Horror Story. The second season worked out many of these kinks and, while still imperfect, there are some genuine gems in the mix, like the Twilight Zone-aping “Facelift.” The third season was an even greater improvement that arguably didn’t have any duds in the mix. More importantly, American Horror Stories seemed to finally find the right rhythm and creative team to do this series justice. If you were to make a list of seemingly fearless actors, Kathy Bates could surely be towards the top. That’s why it’s so surprising that the actor behind “Misery,” “Titanic” and “American Horror Story” admitted she was “terrified” over her new role on CBS’ “Matlock.”

Early into his interview with the acting legend, “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert dove into the psychological deep end. Colbert asked Bates if she “always” feels scared when she’s starting a project. “Like I have a feeling before I do any sort of creative endeavor, I want to sign a confession and have it notarized and sent to the National Archives that says ‘I am a fraud. The upcoming post-apocalyptic horror movie Please Don’t Feed the Children will mark the feature directorial debut from Destry Allyn Spielberg, the daughter of Steven Spielberg. First-look images have arrived ahead of the film’s world premiere at Sitges this week, introducing Michelle Dockery’s psychotic character.

In Don’t Feed the Children, “after a viral outbreak ravaged the country’s adult population, a group of orphans heads south in search of a new life, only to find themselves at the mercy of a deranged woman harboring a dangerous secret.”

The NBC drama series “Brilliant Minds” focuses on portraying the intersection of neurology and human experiences. In its latest episode “The Lost Biker,” main character Dr. Oliver Wolf, played by Zachary Quinto, takes on the challenging case of his friend Wyatt, a biker played by guest star Steve Howey. Dr. Wolf works to create one last memorable moment between Wyatt and his estranged daughter before a high-stakes brain surgery.

Like the show’s premiere episode, “The Lost Biker” centers on Dr. Wolf’s effort to provide a patient with a meaningful memory. However, this story takes a bittersweet turn when Wyatt survives but is left with daily memory loss. Quinto, known for roles in “Star Trek” and “American Horror Story,” said the show aims to elicit real human emotions from viewers that can spark meaningful conversations. He finds inspiration in portraying a compassionate character unlike some of his past villainous roles.

Parker Finn's 2022 horror film "Smile" has a novel premise and a monster that is difficult to describe. The film begins when the lead character, a therapist named Rose (Sosie Bacon), has a strange encounter with a student, Laura (Caitlin Stasey). Laura is in a panic, having spent several day beset by hallucinations. She has been seeing people she knows appearing out of nowhere and grinning at her fiendishly. She knows these people are, in fact, a singular shapeshifting demon of some kind, and it is encouraging her to die by suicide. Then, as she predicted, Laura also pastes on a bleak, intense smile, and slits her throat right in front of Rose.

Rose soon begins experiencing similar hallucinations, wherein people she knows appear in her mind's eye, all of them wearing a scary rictus. Rose soon discovers that the grinning entity is an ancient supernatural creature that feeds on trauma.

It takes more than a village to make a movie; it’s more like a small army. And in the case of “The Franchise,” that army has a lot of faces you’ll recognize.

Streaming on Max and airing on HBO on Sundays, the comedy series tells the story of a film crew working to put together the next installment in a major (fictional) superhero franchise. Earlier this week, show creator Ryan Murphy revealed that he recently talked to Sarah, 49, and Evan Peters about possibly returning to the fan-favorite series for the upcoming 13th season.

In a new interview, Sarah continued to fuel rumors about her return to the franchise.
