The 2022 Chinese action sci-fi movie "Mutant Ghost Wargirl" from director Binjie Liu was a movie that I had never heard about prior to sitting down and watching it here in 2023. I happened to stumble upon the movie by random chance, and of course I opted to watch it, given my fascination and love of the Asian cinema.
And the movie was adequately entertaining. The storyline in the movie, however, was a bit bland and sort of not really all that deep. It is the type of movie where you just lean back and ride along for the action and visual effects.
I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. But I will say that the actors and actresses in the movie did fair jobs with their given roles, especially since they didn't have all that much of a thoroughly deep script to work with.
Visually then "Mutant Ghost Wargirl" was quite good. I liked the CGI effects in the movie, and given the fast pace of the movie, then the special effects were a welcomed addition. Especially since they helped to keep the otherwise bland storyline afloat. "Mutant Ghost Wargirl" is one among many recent movies of particularly great CGI to make it out of the Chinese cinema.
Watchable for what it was, "Mutant Ghost Wargirl" is a movie that came and went without much of a ruckus. It is hardly a movie that I will return to watch a second time. If you have the chance to watch it, do so, especially if you enjoy Chinese action movies with good CGI effects.
My rating of "Mutant Ghost Wargirl" lands on a five out of ten stars.
