The figure was up 74% from 2022’s £26.7m post-tax operating profit. The company also saw pre-tax figures rising 70% from £31.6m to £53.7m.
Netflix’s profit was able to weather its tax bill, which almost doubled from the £7.5m paid in 2022 to the £14.2m shelled out in 2023.
In a Companies House filing from its main UK entity, Netflix Services UK, the SVoD major reported an 8% revenue increase in 2023, reaching £1.7bn compared with £1.5bn in 2022. The increase was less...

Plot: A group of college friends reunite for a weekend-long party. When one of the gang shows up with a mysterious suitcase in tow; the group gets to know each other in an unusual – and perhaps even terrifying – way.
Review: It’s What’s Inside presents anyone reviewing it with a problem. Something that happens early in the film is so unexpected that spoiling it would be a crime. Yet, the problem is that this potential spoiler is the instigating event. How do you discuss the rest of the movie if you can’t even really dig into what it’s about? Indeed, the company repping the film begged us in a follow-up email to our screening not to spoil the premise. As such, this review is going to be vague.

Plot: A high-powered executive (Nicole Kidman) risks her family and career when she begins an affair with a much younger intern (Harris Dickinson).
Review: You’ve got to hand it to director Halina Reijn – she’s not afraid to be controversial. Her last movie, Bodies Bodies Bodies, was a huge surprise, with it being positioned as a slasher movie but ending up as something of a hilarious prank played on horror fans. This one, Babygirl, tackles issues of consent, grooming, and coercion head-on but dares to allow the audience to make up their own mind about what’s appropriate or not.
It offers Nicole Kidman a very controversial part, with her exec, Romy (Nicole Kidman), seemingly having it all. She runs a wildly profitable company with a loving husband (Antonio Banderas) and a supportive family. Yet, right from the first scene, where we see her in bed with her husband,...

You know a Joseph Kahn film when you see one. There’s an approach to style, narrative, and editing akin to pure adrenaline; it’s as though the filmmaker drank a bunch of coffee, ate a bunch of candy, and then immediately made a movie.
Ick, Kahn’s first feature since 2017’s Bodies, is pure sugar/caffeine rush: when it’s on a high, the film is dazzlingly fun and entertaining (sugar high!). But when the blood sugar crashes, Ick’s lows prove extremely uneven and a little frustrating.
In true Kahn form, Ick opens with energy to spare. An extended montage introduces Hank Wallace and his perfectly cliché high school life. He’s got it all: Hank is the quarterback of the football team, he’s primed for a College scholarship, and he’s dating head cheerleader Staci (Mena Suvari).
Everything goes awry when he blows out his knee during a game.

How to handle and regulate AI, how to continue making awards shows more appealing to a broader audience, and how key improving diversity is to ensuring relevance and revenue were just some of the questions discussed by the heads of the organizations behind the Oscars, BAFTA Awards and Grammys in Toronto on Sunday morning.
Bill Kramer, the CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. addressed the hot-button issues during a panel on “The Future of Awards Bodies,” moderated by TIFF chief programming officer Anita Lee, at the industry conference strand of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
None of the panelists was shocked to be confronted with a question about the challenges that AI is creating for their organizations. “Well, that is probably the question of the year. How is AI going to affect music and art and culture?...

Boosted by Locarno-awarded debut Instinct, Dutch actor-director Halina Reijn fit nicely in the A24 canon with her satirical thriller Bodies Bodies Bodies. Yet the latter elicited rather lukewarm critical responses and it almost seemed Reijn might have been a one-hit European wonder fallen prey to the American dream. Then came Babygirl. As one of the first competition titles to grace the Lido, it promises a lot: not only does its title roll off the tongue with a delightful ring, it leaves one feeling a bit giddy (and a little naughty) for having uttered it aloud. Let’s not forget this is a film about a tech CEO / star mom / perfect wife (played by none other than ice queen Nicole Kidman) submitting to a much-younger intern (Harris Dickinson) to the point of literally eating from his hand.

Halina Reijn wants to bridge Hollywood’s “orgasm gap.”
“It’s huge! Huge!” the Dutch actress-turned-director exclaims, gesticulating wildly over our Zoom call to discuss her new film, Babygirl. “In Hollywood movies, we still see women having orgasms that are physically just not possible, at least for 99 percent of women!”
The orgasms in Babygirl, which premieres at the Venice Film Festival, it’s safe to say, will be more realistic. And there will be plenty of them. After her U.S. debut, the Gen Z slasher satire Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022), Reijn returns to the more erotic tones of her first feature, the 2019 Dutch drama Instinct, which chronicled an illicit relationship between a prison therapist and an incarcerated sex offender.
Babygirl stars Nicole Kidman as a high-powered CEO married to the age-appropriate and undeniably sexy Jakob (Antonio Banderas) who embarks on a forbidden romance with a much younger intern, played by...

As promised, the Pistols and Carter played the entire Never Mind the Bollocks album in full, albeit not in sequential order, ripping through classics like “Holidays in the Sun,” “Bodies,” and the set-closer “Anarchy in the U.K.”

The 84-year-old multiple times Oscar nominee and winner Al Pacino has never ceased to leave his audience amused by his performances, be it through his iconic crime-action projects or his dramatic masterpieces. If anything, he is one of the greatest and most influential actors of the 20th century, best known for his perfectly channeled intimidating demeanor onscreen.

The return of Chicken Run after a 20-year hiatus saw viewers flock to the movie, which was crowned the most-watched streamer title in the UK last year by Ofcom’s Media Nations report.
Aardman’s sequel Dawn of the Nugget starring Bella Ramsey and Thandiwe Newton drew an average audience of 7.5 million within the first 28 days of its release, according to the regulator’s annual report. The movie was met with a warm critical reception, coming more than two decades after the 2000 original.
Chicken Run landed around 1 million more viewers than Pixar’s animated pic Elemental, which was in second place and was Disney+’s only title in the top 10.
Having generated more than £1B ($1.3B) for the first time in the UK last year, Amazon Prime Video’s sole entrant was Clarkson’s Farm, with a most-watched ep of 5.6 million. TV shows were rated via their most-watched episode rather than taking the overall series.

Streamer revenue soared again in the UK last year, with Prime Video generating more than £1B ($1.28B) for the first time, according to Ofcom’s Media Nations Report, but commercial nets saw turnover tumble to a four-year low.

Netflix’s global chart is now prominently dominated by Supacell, a sci-fi that speculates on supernatural abilities, conspiracies and time traveling. If you enjoy TV shows that explore the possibility of making it through the course of time, fasten your seat belts!
Here are 6 time-travel series that are definitely worth your time if you loved Supacell (and they’re all available on Netflix).
Dark (2017 - 2020)
This already cultish show is, probably, what comes first in this respect. Indeed, this sci-fi masterpiece follows four families involved in a sophisticated time travel conspiracy that spans several generations. It’s truly one of the best original titles ever made by Netflix.
Outlander (2014 - …)
Next is another hyped series that exploits time traveling leitmotif from a somewhat different angle. It centers on a former World War II military nurse who is suddenly thrown back in time to 1743, where she faces challenges of a completely different era.

We're officially knee-deep in summer! The 4th of July just happened, and I'm sure some of you are gearing up for a summer vacation. Whether you're staying at home chilling in a tiny inflatable pool or heading out and hitting the beach, summer is a great time to just take it easy and disassociate from your normal, every-day life. It's also a great season for horror. I know there's a certain subset of folks — let's call them "normal people" — who primarily associate horror with autumn and Halloween. In fact, I've met more than one person in my life who has claimed they only watch horror movies around Halloween time. And while I'm not one to judge, I'll say this: why limit yourself? Horror can be celebrated year-round! Especially when there are a whole slew of scary movies set during the summer season. And that's where this month's horror streaming column comes in.

But if you're already missing the vibes, the mysteries, and the intensity of Lost, but can't wait until July, check out the list below and put your Netflix account to good use.
Dark (2017-2020)
As one of Netflix's most successful non-English titles, the sci-fi thriller Dark came to steal the hearts of viewers in Germany first. The show follows a mystery that begins with a modern timeline and a small town that has a sudden increase in cases of missing children.
From that point, a multi-generational investigation begins, with characters traveling through time from the 1950s to the 2050s. This series will be just as intriguing as Lost,...

Jed Mercurio is behind some of the UK’s most successful dramas, and now it’s being reported that he is developing a new series based on the story of the country’s most notorious child serial killer.

The Shiva Baby and Bodies, Bodies, Bodies standout goes serious in an uneven and at times frustrating combination of disparate tones and genre
There’s a particular, distinctly online note – dead-eyed, chaotic, teetering between hyper self-consciousness and delusional confidence – that comedian Rachel Sennott can hit so effectively it will temporarily and memorably spark its container: Twitter, where she rose to prominence as a self-aware zillennial comedy It Girl; Bodies Bodies Bodies, where she provided the bulk of the horror comedy’s actual zingers; The Idol, where her bit part as a pop star’s assistant was one of the misbegotten HBO series’ few highlights. As a lead – in Emma Seligman’s claustrophobic feature Shiva Baby and, less successfully, in Seligmans’ follow-up comedy Bottoms – Sennott stretched her shtick but remained most successful in this familiar, self-deprecating zone, though she has hinted at something darker and less irony-pilled.

Lana Del Rey looked sharp at the 2024 Met Gala.
Fresh off headlining two weekends of Coachella, the “Video Games” singer stepped onto the moss-inspired carpet in a veiled cream Alexander McQueen sheath gown by Seán McGirr, who took inspiration from Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti.
A haute couture version of a fit-and-flare silhouette from the label’s spring/summer line, Del Rey wore a silk, tulle and georgette corseted dress with hand-embroidered thorny vines that appeared to climb up from her skirt and behind her head. The singer finished the look with a crystal-embellished red rose corsage. The look was a nod to the British fashion house’s “crown of thorns” headpiece from the fall/winter 1996 collection of then-creative director Shaun Leane.
“I’m with Sean [McGirr at] McQueen — Oh god, I hope I don’t poke him,” Del Rey joked on the red carpet, where she stood beside collaborator Kim Kardashian. (The...

Arrowhead’s beloved co-op shooter, Helldivers 2, is experiencing its first round of negative press, that too very overwhelming. The studio recently announced that PC players will have to link a Psn account to continue playing the game after May 6.
Hundreds of thousands of players were blindsided at the sudden change, which was optional at the game’s launch. Concerns about data security and regions without Psn access are being brought up, and Arrowhead has been taking the brunt of the blame, even though it’s not their decision.
Arrowhead’s Hand Was Potentially Forced By Their Publisher
Arrowhead officials have named publisher Sony as the reason behind the controversial decision.
The studio’s community manager, Spitz, revealed in Helldivers 2‘s official Discord channel that the mandate has been enforced by the game’s publisher, Sony. It was intended to be there since launch, but technical issues delayed the account linking requirement.

The dark side clouds everything, including the plot details of the newest Star Wars live-action series, The Acolyte. What we know for sure is that the eight-episode series helmed by Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland is billed as a “mystery thriller” and follows a group of Jedi as they investigate a series of murders 100 years before The Phantom Menace. We also know that the central mystery involves a dangerous warrior named Mae, played by Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies), and the Sith’s plan to eventually eradicate the Jedi during the Prequel Trilogy era.
While The Acolyte‘s latest trailer, which released on Star Wars Day, doesn’t reveal too much more about the show, it does give us a few new hints about the story. Specifically, it reveals a new Sith Lord who took on the Jedi a century before the rise of Palpatine and the Empire! If you haven’t watched it already,...

It's time for another Zack Snyder slow-motion extravaganza! Snyder's big sci-fi sequel "Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver" is now on Netflix, and the reactions ... well, they ain't great, folks. The first film, subtitled "A Child of Fire," didn't fare much better — it's currently sitting at 21% on Rotten Tomatoes. But what about Part Two? Sadly, it seems to be doing even worse than the original flick. As of this writing, "Rebel Moon – Part Two" has a terrible 15% on Rotten Tomatoes. And if you're thinking, "Well, that's just the critics! What are regular people saying about the movie?", you should also know that the film's audience score is a less-than-great 52%. In short, people don't seem to like what Snyder is offering here. Snyder has always had a tenuous relationship with critics, but this seems to be one of his worst-reviewed films to date. Even his cartoon owl movie has...

Exclusive: HBO is betting on another fresh female comedy voice, giving a pilot order to a half-hour starring, written and executive produced by Rachel Sennott.
In the untitled project, a codependent friend group reunites, navigating how the time apart, ambition and new relationships have changed them.
Sennott, who is executive producing alongside Barry alums Emma Barrie and Aida Rodgers, is looking to follow in the footsteps of Lena Dunham (Girls) and Issa Rae’s (Insecure), two other rising female comedy creators/performers whose pilots about twentysomethings navigating life and relationships became hit HBO series.
A 2017 alumna of Tisch School of the Arts, Sennott got off to a hot start, when a student film she starred in, Shiva Baby, got a feature adaptation with her reprising her starring role and executive producing. That led to starring roles in the comedy horror movie Bodies, Bodies, Bodies and teen comedy Bottoms,...
