Fran Drescher is joining Josh Safdie’s A24 movie, Marty Supreme.

The SAG-AFTRA President will star opposite Timothée Chalamet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, The Creator, Odessa A’zion, Penn Jillette, Kevin O’Leary a.k.a Mr. Wonderful and Abel Ferrara.

The original screenplay written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein is based loosely on Marty Reisman’s life, set in the world of 1950s Ping Pong culture. Reisman was known to be unconventional in the sport, yet won two U.S. Men’s Singles Championships in 1958 and 1960 and more than 20 international and national titles. He became famous for mastering the hardbat style, a traditional style of table tennis that uses a racket without a sponge layer to emphasize control and spin over speed and power. His mastery of the sport earned him a reputation as one of table tennis’ last greats of that era.

Led by Fran Drescher's Fran Fine, The Nanny cast is composed of veteran actors from both television and film. The classic '90s sitcom The Nanny aired for six seasons and over 140 episodes on CBS between 1993 and 1999. It was the show that made star Fran Drescher a household name. Co-created with her then-husband Peter Marc Jacobson, The Nanny was partly inspired by a trip Drescher took to London to visit her former Princesses co-star Twiggy. After spending a lot of time with the British model-actress' kids, Drescher got the idea for a show riffing on The Sound Of Music but with her as a nanny instead of some Julie Andrews type.

TV Land‘s gimmick of creating new sit-coms that are throwbacks to the style and general effort of those classic shows from the ’80s and ’90s is one that is proving more and more a hit-or-miss venture. What at first seemed a no-fail stroke of genius, has now put out its share of failures, and though it has led to some truly great shows, we’re learning that you can’t always spin success out of the concept.

For every Hot in Cleveland, there’s a Retired at 35. For every The Exes, we get a Happily Divorced. Not that those shows were terrible. They weren’t. TV Land has solidified a solid base of original programming over the last few years, and even if they weren’t all solid gold, they’ve put out some real winners. Love them or hate them, you have to appreciate the effort. Airing old shows from the ’80s was doing well enough, so why not spit out a few originals that lean toward ’80s sit-com sensibilities, and if we can throw in a star from an ’80s show here and there, so much the better.

TV Land has decided to cancel Happily Divorced after two seasons. The sitcom's co-creator, Peter Marc Jacobson, broke the news to his followers on Facebook this evening.

Jacobson wrote, "Thank You All For Your Support With Happily Divorced. Unfortunately Tvland Has Decided Not To Pick Us Up. But Thank You Guys For Ur Love N Support!"

Based on the real-life marriage of Fran Drescher and Jacobson, Happily Divorced follows a Los Angeles florist (Drescher) whose husband comes out of the closet after 18-years of marriage. Unable to sell their house, she and her gay ex-husband (John Michael Higgins) continue to live together. Still friends and now "happily divorced," they both re-enter the dating world.

The cast also features Tichina Arnold, Rita Moreno, Robert Walden, and Valente Rodriguez.

Season one of Happily Divorced averaged 1.69 million viewers but...

"Happily Divorced," the TV Land sitcom created by and starring Fran Drescher, has been canceled after two seasons.

The multi-camera sitcom was loosely based on Drescher's real life marriage to the show's co-creator and executive producer, Peter Marc Jacobsen. It centered on a middle-aged woman who finds out her husband of 18 years is actually gay. While the two divorced for obvious reasons, the formerly married couple continued to live together. John Michael Higgins co-starred as the ex-husband.

They just both had their own dating lives.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ratings had dropped significantly since the show's premiere. 2.4 million watched when "Happily Divorced" began in June 2011, but that number dwindled to only 1 million by the Season 2 finale in February 2013.

"Happily Divorced" was the third original sitcom developed for TV Land. Its predecessor, "Retired at 35," has also been canceled, while "Hot in Cleveland" has been renewed for Season 5. New comedies...

Fran Drescher's "Happily Divorced" has been cancelled, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The TV Land comedy will not return for Season 3, joining the recently axed "Retired at 35." Its Season 2 finale, which aired in February, will serve as the series finale.

"Happily Divorced" was based on Drescher's own life, centering around a florist named Fran (Drescher) who starts dating again after discovering that her husband (John Michael Higgins) is gay and divorcing him -- although the pair decide to keep living under the same roof. D.W. Moffett played Fran's on-and-off love interest, Elliot.

TV Land's current line-up includes "Hot In Cleveland," "The Exes" and "The Soul Man," with Kirstie Alley's sitcom "Kirstie" and Jaime Pressly's "Jennifer Falls" in production. The network also recently fast-tracked "Sex and the City" creator Darren Star's "Younger."

TV Land has cancelled her comedy Happily Divorced after two seasons, EW has confirmed.

The semi-autobiographical show followed Drescher as a woman going back into the dating scene after learning her husband is gay. The final episode aired earlier this year. The axing follows last year’s ditching of another middle-aged sitcom concept, Retired at 35, which also survived two seasons. Yet TV Land tent-pole comedy Hot in Cleveland has continued to be a success, scoring a fifth season order in March that will bring its tally past 100 episodes.

I’ve learned that the network has decided to end the sitcom, whose last original episode aired in February. Based on Drescher’s real life, Happily Divorced stars The Nanny alumna as a woman who re-enters the dating world after finding out her husband is gay and juggles her relationship with her current boyfriend and ex-husband. Happily Divorced got off to a strong start, with the series premiere drawing 2.4 million viewers in summer 2011. The second season opened with 1.4 million viewers, and its average of 1.5 million clinched a 12-episode back order, bringing the series’ second season to 24 episodes. A few weeks ago, Happily Divorced co-creator and executive producer Marc Peter Jacobson said that TV Land wouldn't be making a decision on the fate of the sitcom until some time in July. Now, that's apparently been delayed until mid-August.

On his Facebook page, Jacobson wrote, "For All You Happily Divorced Fans... And We Thank You. We Will Prob Not Hear Till Mid August About A Pick Up. So Thank You For Your Support And If You Like Please Let Tvland Know Your Thoughts. Thanks Pmj"

Starring Fran Drescher and John Michael Higgins, the last original episode of Happily Divorced aired on February 13th.

New York — Rita Moreno will receive the Life Achievement Award for career and humanitarian accomplishments at the 20th annual SAG Awards.

Screen Actors Guild & American Federation of Television and Radio Artists Co-President Ken Howard made the announcement Monday. He said Moreno is the 50th recipient of the award, "the most prestigious honor we bestow."

Moreno, 81, won a best supporting actress Oscar for 1961's "West Side Story." She also has won two Emmys, a Tony and a Grammy Award, one of the few artists to win all four top show business awards.

She currently appears in TV Land's "Happily Divorced."

The SAG Awards will air Jan. 18, 2014, on TNT and TBS.

The SAG Awards announced today that Rita Moreno has been named the 50th recipient of SAG-aftra’s highest tribute – the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment. Given annually to an actor who fosters the “finest ideals of the acting profession”, the union’s top accolade will be given out at the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards simulcast live on TNT and TBS on January 18, 2014. The actress, singer, dancer, author, political and cultural and diversity activist and educator also has won an Oscar, two Emmys, a Tony, a Grammy, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the National Medal of the Arts. At age 81, the Puerto Rican-born Moreno has had a nearly 70-year career and currently plays Fran Drescher’s mother in TV Land’s Happily Divorced and recently wrote her autobiography Rita Moreno: A Memoir which became a 2013 bestseller.

Many fans of Happily Divorced have been anxiously waiting for TV Land to decide the sitcom's fate. Will the show be cancelled or renewed for a third season?

According to a Facebook response from executive producer and co-creator Peter Marc Jacobson, the cable channel won't be making a decision until July. TV Land execs likely want to see how the current crop of sitcoms performs before deciding.

Starring Fran Drescher, John Michael Higgins, Tichina Arnold, Rita Moreno, Valente Rodriguez and Robert Walden, Happily Divorced debuted in 2011.

The 10 episodes of season one performed very well for TV Land, averaging 1.69 million viewers and a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The series was renewed for a second season of 12 episodes.
