About to have its international premiere at the Fantasia Festival in Montreal, director Billy Senese has just released the first trailer for his indie scifi thriller Closer To God. Here's how the festival describes it:The first successful cloning of a human pulls a brilliant genetic scientist into the center of volatile battle between science and religion in this unique reinterpretation of the Frankenstein story that's equal parts philosophical science-fiction/horror and paranoid thriller. Hypnotically cinematic and evocative of early Cronenberg, this is a fiercely intelligent knockout of a feature from award-winning short filmmaker Billy Senese (The Suicide Tapes).Take a look at the trailer below....

About three weeks ago, I wrote an article announcing Shadowlocked's involvement in this year's Telluride Horror Show and my role as 'Master Host'. Some of you have been wondering what films will be on tap for those in attendance, and lemme tell ya, there are some real doozies. Whether their horror tastes lie with the moody and atmospheric or with over the top fountains of gore, fright fans will find that the Horror Show has something for everyone this year.
Back by popular demand is the extremely popular horror/comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, one of last year's Horror Show crown jewels returning for a repeat performance. Also on tap is The Tunnel, an Australian horror in the 'found footage' genre. Director Carlo Ledesma and producers Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey will be in attendance. Making their United States debuts are shoot-o-rama The Scarlet Worm and tournament-style gorefest Monster Brawl.

When it comes to selecting which movies you are going to put in your film festival, some organizers are better than others. Judging by the announcement of first wave of films to be screened at the Second Annual Telluride Film Festival in Telluride, Colorado, these guys know their shit!
With a schedule that will boast over 20 features and 20 shorts, this is just the beginning, but I'm impressed already…Chillerama, Helldriver, a killer baseball pitcher film And Tucker and Dale vs Evil. Yeah, I'm impressed.
And not only are you getting a killer film line-up, Telluride itself is amazing! A former silver mining town set in a box canyon in southwest Colorado, it's the perfect Shining-esque, Overlook Hotel setting for a horror film festival. To-Hell-You-Ride, Colorado. Oh yeah!
I know it's a full schedule when the ol' carpel tunnel syndrome starts acting up while I write and format the film list.

The Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival is, once again, set to push the boundaries of modern horror with their sixth annual edition that will run for four terrifying nights on Oct. 13-16 at the Artisphere theater in Washington, D.C.
For the opening night event on Oct. 13, Spooky Movie proves its international flair with the over-the-top Japanese zombie gorefest and action flick Helldriver, directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura, which will have two screenings, one for the early birds at 7:00 p.m. and one for the late-night crowd at 10:00 p.m.
The closing night film on the 16th is also an international affair: Joe Bauer’s The Killage, an Australian horror comedy that sends up the teen camp counselors slasher genre. Plus, there will be several Aussie short films accompanying this final feature.

The Fantasia Film Festival is officially over and we here at Sound On Sight will always remember it as the year of brilliant first time features with the likes of Bellflower, Absentia, Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark, You Are Here, Beyond The Black Rainbow, Attack The Block and Retreat, to name a few. The final audience numbers are yet to be confirmed, but Fantasia estimates it has welcomed more than 100,000 audience members in the past three and a half weeks. 150 international directors, actors and producers came to present their films and we had a great time meeting new faces and drinking the nights away with some of the filmmakers. I can’t stress how fun the festival is and highly I recommend our international readers who love genre cinema to one day travel here to Montreal, and check it out.

From the Press Release: sThe festival opened with a bang with the Canadian premiere of Red State by director Kevin Smith. This was only the first in a long line of sensational special events that took place over the course of the festival. Among those was the incredible homage to the great John Landis (Burke And Hare), marked by the presentation of Fantasia’s new trophy “Le Cheval Noir.” Mirroring our strong launch, the festival closed with the Canadian premiere of Guillermo del Toro’s Don’T Be Afraid Of The Dark.
