“You were robbed,” I told Jay Duplass at Amazon Studios’ “Gleason” premiere last week. He was a tad crestfallen about not landing a supporting actor Emmy nomination for his excellent performance as Josh Pfefferman on “Transparent,” until I reminded him how hard it is to get nominated for the first time. There’s often a lag.
Look at “The Americans.” It took four seasons of campaigning and increasingly positive reviews for it to finally land a Best Drama slot this year. The TV Academy turns to the same old popular favorites so often that it’s tough for someone new to break into the ranks.
This year, during the intense campaigning for the Emmy Awards, I realized that my hard-won understanding of how Oscar voters think does not apply to the TV Academy. I felt out of step with some of the Emmy pundits on Gold Derby who were picking...

Episode 50 of 52: In which Katharine Hepburn starred in a movie with Jason Bateman, which will make every game of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon you play significantly easier.
This is it. We’ve reached the final year of Katharine Hepburn’s career. Did Kate know that the three films she made in 1994 would be her last? Did she feel herself slowing down and decide that sixty two years in the spotlight were enough? Since she made no official announcement, it’s impossible to know Kate’s reasons for sure. Still, considering this was Kate’s last starring role, This Can’t Be Love feels like a retirement announcement.
Kate’s first final film was This Can’t Be Love, another TV movie starring Katharine Hepburn as Katharine Hepburn. Actually, she plays Marion Bennett, a world-renowned, Academy Award-winning actress who eschews public life and spends a lot of time...

Episode 50 is one of those titles we picked up on during our coverage of the American Film Market. And it appears the upcoming horror movie has found a distributor and landed a release date.
Like man films that have come before it (for example, Grave Encounters), and will come after it, the Joe Smalley and Tess Smalley-directed tale concerns a team of paranormal experts who are followed by a television crew and ultimately discover real danger.
Image Entertainment will deliver Episode 50 on DVD April 17.

Episode 50 is a low budget horror film written and directed by Joe and Tess Smalley, and released late last year. In a time of ever increasing found footage horror films and television shows about ghost hunters, the premise is quite inspired: why not make a horror movie featuring the found footage of a team of TV ghost hunters who met an unfortunate end? I initially had high hopes for the film. It cleverly begins by slapping a TV14 ratings b…...

*spoiler alert.
Directors: Tess and Joe Smalley.
Writer: Ian Holt.
Cast: Josh Folan, Chris Perry, Natalie Wetta, Keithen Hergott, Eleanor Wilson.
Released to DVD: Sept 19, 2011
Episode 50 continues with the long tradition of inventing more paranormal reality television shows where private investigators meet an untimely end. This film even includes a short episode of a fake television show, "Paranormal Inspectors (Pi)," at the beginning just to show how this group functions in front of a camera. Jack Kelley (Josh Folan) and Damon Brown (Chris Parry), the founders, explain that ghosts are not real. They’re manufactured by natural causes, like the noxious fumes of improperly sealed cans of solvent, which play with a person’s imagination.
After the end credits roll for this short episode of "Paranormal Investigators," the real film kicks into high gear. The group is contacted by Andrew Worthington Jr. to investigate the West Virginia Insane Asylum.

Episode 50
Stars: Josh Folan, Chris Perry, Natalie Wetta, Keithen Hergott, Eleanor Wilson | Written and Directed by Joe Smalley, Tess Smalley
Ghost hunting and paranormal investigation is the hottest thing in reality TV right now, with new show after new show appearing on Us television each year. Well now the concept has been brought to the movies with Episode 50, which follows the ghost-hunting crew of the (fictional) television show Paranormal Inspectors as they shoot their 50th episode (hence the films title) at the West Virginia State Lunatic Asylum, which – at least in the “reality” of this film – is considered one of America’s most haunted sites.
Of course this wouldn’t be a horror movie if something didn’t go awry. And like many a “found-footage” flick before it, the premise of Episode 50 is that Paranormal Inspectors was cancelled before episode 50 could air and so nobody knew what...

30 Minutes Or Less (15)
(Ruben Fleischer, 2011, Us) Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride. 83 mins
After the heights of The Social Network, Eisenberg is demoted to a lowly pizza delivery boy for this casual caper movie. He's driven to rob banks at the behest of McBride's criminal non-mastermind, with buddy Ansari roped in for comic effect. In fact, comic effect seems to be all this is after. Like a dodgy pizza, it's enjoyable at the time but nutritionally dubious, a bit thin, and just about gone cold by the time it's finished.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (15)
(Thomas Alfredson, 2011, UK/Fra/Ger) Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch. 127 mins
A very British spy thriller that dispenses with all that hasty pacing and coarse action in favour of well-tailored men talking in rooms. A complex, classy cold war mole-hunt that demands attention, but rewards it richly.

The last time we heard anything about the release of the new ghost hunting gone completely awry flick Episode 50 was way back in October of last year. Things have been quiet for a bit, but wow, are the filmmakers making some noise with their latest one-sheet!
The premise of the film is simple:
Over the course of three years, a television crew of paranormal inspectors disproved 49 claims of supernatural contact.
This, however, is about what happened in Episode 50.
Bleiberg Entertainment is behind this spook show from the writer of Dr. Chopper and the directing duo of Tess and Joe Smally. Josh Folan ("All My Children"), Chris Perry, Natalie Wetta, and Kiethan Hergott star.
Look for more on Episode 50 as soon as it comes.

Bleiberg Entertainment looks to capture to the faux documentary fad and combine it with the popularity that drives ratings for shows like Ghost Hunters in Episode 50 . Josh Folan, Chris Perry, Natalie Wetta and Kiethan Hergott are supposed to star in the film which is being directed by "The Smalleys." Ian Holt is the credited screenwriter; he previously penned Dr. Chopper and co-penned the novel "Dracula: The Undead" with Dacre Stoker. Episode 50 's synopsis goes like this: Over the course of three years, a television crew of paranormal inspectors disproved 49 claims of supernatural contact. This, however, is about what happened in episode 50.

Have you noticed the increase in horror movies about the crews of ghost hunting television programs getting much more than they bargained for? The latest to join this ever-growing subgenre of ghost hunters getting hunted is Episode 50. Odds are they won't be alive to film a 51st episode.
