Simon Pegg is best known for his starring roles in the spoof films of the Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy, but the actor has appeared in plenty of other great movies (and some not-so-great ones). Pegg first rose to prominence as the co-creator and star of the Channel 4 sitcom Spaced. He reunited with director Edgar Wright, co-star Nick Frost, and a handful of other cast members from Spaced for the Cornetto movies that launched him to stardom: zombie-infested romcom Shaun of the Dead, “buddy cop” slasher Hot Fuzz, and body-snatching sci-fi adventure The World’s End.
Since the Cornetto movies made Pegg a recognizable star, he’s acted in such lucrative blockbuster franchises as Ice Age, Star Trek, and Mission: Impossible. He’s acted alongside A-list stars like Tom Cruise, Chris Pine, and Thandiwe Newton and worked with such legendary directors as Steven Spielberg, John Landis, and J.J. Abrams. Some of...

The late, great Robin Williams had a long and varied movie career beginning in 1977 and spanning over three decades. His last role was as the voice of Dennis the Dog in Absolutely Anything in 2015.

Terry Jones, the Welsh comedian and filmmaker, has died at 77 after a four-year battle against frontotemporal dementia. Jones’s family announced he died on the evening of January 21, 2020 in a statement. “We are deeply saddened to have to announce the passing of beloved husband and father, Terry Jones,” the statement reads. “Terry passed away with his wife Anna Soderstrom by his side after a long, extremely brave but always good humoured battle with a rare form of dementia, Ftd.”
Jones is best known as one of the founding members of comedy troupe Monty Python alongside Eric Idle, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, and Terry Gilliam. Terry Jones, co-founder of Monty Python, died Wednesday after a long struggle with dementia. He was 77.
Jones was instrumental in creating the wacky, absurdist style of comedy that Monty Python made famous in the 1970s and directed two of the English comedy group’s most successful films, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” and “Monty Python’s Life of Brian.” In the latter, Jones played Mandy Cohen, mother of the titular Brian, and appeared before a crowd to deliver probably his most famous line in a comically squawky voice, “He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy!”
He also wrote the screenplay for the 1986 cult classic “Labyrinth” starring David Bowie.
In 2004 Jones was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the BBC documentary series “Medieval Lives,” and in 1983 he was nominated for a BAFTA for best original song for “Every Sperm is Sacred” from “Monty Python’s the Meaning of Life.

MaryAnn’s quick take… Audacious, outrageous, bleakly funny. Not since Charlie Chaplin sent up Hitler and invited us to laugh at terrible reality has there been a movie like this. I’m “biast” (pro): love Armando Iannucci’s work
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

Presenting… Monty Python’s production of George Orwell’s 1984. Or damn close to it. So The Death of Stalin is akin to Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, then? Well, sort of. (I definitely scribbled “Brazil” in my notes while watching.) But Brazil was fiction; clearly inspired by actual totalitarian regimes, but entirely fictional. Stalin, however, is based on terrible reality. Perhaps not since Charlie Chaplin’s 1940 satire The Great Dictator has a filmmaker taken on such awful personalities and events and attempted to make us laugh about it all.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy 2 kicked off the summer movie season in grand fashion last weekend, with an opening weekend of $145 million, far surpassing the $94.3 million take of the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie. This weekend, these intergalactic superheroes took on two new movies in wide release, Warner Bros. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and 20th Century Fox's Snatched, with Lowriders also managing to crack the top 10 in limited release. Still, none of these newcomers could come close to the superhero ensemble Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which had no trouble repeating with $63 million.
Box Office Mojo reports that this superhero sequel dropped 57% this weekend, playing in 4,347 theaters for a respectable $14,494 per-screen average. The $200 million budgeted movie has now taken in $246.1 million domestically and $630.5 million worldwide. After just two weekends, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 already quite close to surpassing both the domestic ($333.1 million) and worldwide take ($773.3 million) of its predecessor.

The 2017 summer movie season kicked off last weekend with the strong opening for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which enters its sophomore session this weekend and will once again find itself atop the box office as the week's new wide releases*King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Snatched*aren't looking to offer much competition. Question is, with the Guardians sequel outperforming the opening weekend of the original by more than 55% (the best opening performance for a first sequel among all Marvel Cinematic Universe films), will the second weekend for the galactic superheroes also outperform the norm? In our showdown featuring Marvel First Sequels you can see the average second weekend drop for the four other films on the list is 57.4%, an average that would have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 delivering over $62 million this weekend. Heading into last weekend, it was virtually guaranteed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was taking the top spot at the box office, the only real question was how much it would earn. Early box office projections had the superhero sequel taking in as much as $160 million in its opening weekend, a huge jump from the $94.3 million that the original Guardians movie made. But the sequel fell just short of those projections, only taking in $146.5 million, just a bit more than the Sunday estimate of $145 million. This weekend, it will go up against two new releases, Warner Bros.' King Arthur: The Legend of the Sword and 20th Century Fox's Snatched, neither of which are expected to put up much of a fight against this Marvel Phase Three adventure, which should easily repeat with $79.2 million.

For the third year in a row, Marvel kicks of the summer movie season with a new superhero sequel. In 2015, Marvel Studios unleashed Avengers: Age of Ultron in the first weekend in May, with Captain America: Civil War kicking of the summer movie box office season last year. Keep up with the wild and wooly world of indie film acquisitions with our weekly Rundown of everything that’s been picked up around the globe. Check out last week’s Rundown here.
– Focus Features has acquired the North American and select international rights to Jason Reitman’s “Tully.” Written by Diablo Cody, the comedy stars Charlize Theron, Mackenzie Davis, Mark Duplass and Ron Livingston.
“Tully” tells the story of Marlo (Theron), a mother of three who is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Davis). The film will premiere in U.S. theaters on April 20, 2018.

Have you heard of this movie, Absolutely Anything? I'm sure some of you have, because we've talked about it on the website before, and it's been released in Great Britain. I'm just feeling behind on the times. It looks absolutely amazing, and it is finally getting a Us theatrical release!
The film is created by, and stars the crew from Monty Python, and stars Simon Pegg, Kate Beckinsale and Robin Williams as the voice of a dog. It tells the story of a man who is given the power of a God by some aliens seeing if humanity is worth keeping around. It makes you wonder... if you could do anything, what would you do? Would you use it for good? Evil? Or would you just dick around and do whatever you want?

"I can solve anything in the world!" Atlas has revealed a new Us trailer for the upcoming American release of a comedy film titled Absolutely Anything. This film was originally released in Europe back in 2015, and has been waiting to get released in the Us until now. One way they're marketing it: this film features the "final" performance by Robin Williams, who voices a talking dog. Absolutely Anything is about a goofy school teacher who is granted the superpowered ability to make any wish or desire come true. Simon Pegg stars, with Kate Beckinsale, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Rob Riggle, Robert Bathurst, Eddie Izzard, and Joanna Lumley. This looks pretty bad, but the only redeeming side is that it's directed by Monty Python's Terry Jones. Maybe there's some good humor? It looks like this was lost in the 90s and only recently found. Here's the first official Us trailer (+ poster) for Terry Jones' Absolutely Anything,...

The movie premiered in the U.K. in August 2015, but will finally begin playing in American theaters on May 12.

In August 2014, fans the world over were rocked by Robin Williams' death, and the comedy icon's final film is now on its way to hitting screens across America.
The sci-fi comedy, Absolutely Anything, features Williams as the voice of a talking dog named Dennis. The story follows Simon Pegg as a random earthling who is given unlimited powers to shape the universe as he sees fit by a group of eccentric extra-terrestrials -- and one of the first things he does is bestow the power of human speech on his pet dog.
The film, which premiered in the United Kingdom in August 2015, is coming to American theaters on May 12.
Watch: Robin Williams Brings the Laughs in Never-Before-Seen 'Aladdin' Footage
Aside from being Williams' last film, the sci-fi farce is also notable for being the first movie to reunite every living member of Monty Python for their first project since 1983's Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life.

According to Deadline, the last film Robin Williams made before his death finally has a U.S. release date. The movie is Absolutely Anything, and it stars Simon Pegg as a guy who gets godlike powers from aliens so they can determine if the Earth is worth saving, but he just ends up using them in silly ways like making it so his dog can talk like Robin Williams. The movie was released in the U.K. a few years ago, but it didn’t have U.S. distribution until now, with Atlas Distribution Co. picking it up and announcing that it will be released on May 12.
Unfortunately, if Absolutely Anything being Robin Williams’ last film isn’t sad enough, it will also most likely be the last film from Monty Python member Terry Jones, who announced that he has dementia last year. Jones directed Absolutely Anything, and Monty ...

After coming out more than two years ago in the U.K., Robin Williams' final movie is going to get released in the U.S. The comedy Absolutely Anything, in which Williams voices a dog, has finally secured distribution from Atlas Distribution Co. Outside of the appeal that comes from Robin Williams, the movie also serves as something of a Monty Python reunion, which isn't likely to happen again on the big screen.
According to Deadline, Absolutely Anything will be given a limited release, with Atlas hoping to get the movie in theaters on May 12. Terry Jones, who directed Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Life of Brian and The Meaning of life, directed Absolutely Anything from a script that he wrote more than 20 years ago. The movie also stars Monty Python alums John Cleese, Eric Idle and Michael Palin. So comedy fans have several very good reasons to go see this movie.

For the last two years (and four of the last five years) Marvel has kept a foothold on the first weekend in May, which kicks off the summer movie season. The studio still holds the May record for the biggest opening with The Avengers' $207.4 million debut, but their most recent May hits, 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.2 million) and last year's Captain America: Civil War ($179.1 million) have fallen just short of that mark. This year, the studio releases Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is the only movie opening in wide release this Friday, and will definitely hit quite huge, getting the summer season off to a great start. But it may still fall short of The Avengers' all-time Marvel record, opening with a predicted $181.7 million.
Box Office Mojo reports that Marvel is planning on rolling out Guardians 2 in approximately 4,200 theaters, which falls in line with the rollout of the last few Marvel blockbusters.

The final film of the late, great Robin Williams has gotten a release date. For his last role, Williams lends his voice to play a talking dog named Dennis in the sci-fi comedy Absolutely Anything. With his usual hysterical antics (the ones that we miss so much!), Williams' character provides commentary when aliens choose fellow funnyman Simon Pegg to experiment on in hopes of answering this burning question: What would happen if they gave a human the power to do, well, absolutely anything? Although watching Williams' roles now make us laugh and cry in equal measure, Anything has made a point to focus on the funny. And one surefire way to make us laugh is by the movie's choice to cast some of the key...

Thematically and emotionally, The Missing series two struck all the right notes this week. The multiple plot strands coalesced in an episode that was alternately sickening, thrilling and moving. Sickening in the scenes showing Gettrick’s home life with Sophie and Lucy; thrilling in every step closer Julien came to discovering Adam and what really happened in Iraq in 1991; and moving just about every time Keeley Hawes and David Morrissey were on screen.

We knew that the Roanoke house guests would be killed off quickly, but somehow, we were still totally unprepared to see each of the cast members of "Return to Roanoke: Three Days in Hell" slaughtered as horrifically as they were. American Horror Story Season 6 Episode 7 trimmed the number of house guests significantly.
While we saw only one major death – Rory's – on American Horror Story Season 6 Episode 6, "Chapter 7" picked up steam, killing off several characters in shocking ways.
Interestingly, only one of the characters on this installment was killed off by the actual Roanoke ghosts. Sidney and his crew were brutally killed by an unhinged Agnes, Shelby bludgeoned Matt, and Agnes herself was eventually murdered by her idol, the real Butcher.
Join TV Fanatics Amanda Steinmetz, Yana Grebenyuk, and Paul Dailly as they react to the gruesome deaths and shocking twists on "Chapter 7"!

Family animation Minions also received double digit complaints from members of the public.
Kingsman: The Secret Service and latest James Bond outing Spectre topped the 2015 list of film complaints received by ratings body the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), according to the organisation’s annual report.
Matthew Vaughn’s comic book adaptation Kingsman received 38 complaints from members of the public, with the primary reason being the level of violence in the 15-rated film, with one scene set in a church (featuring Colin Firth attacking a group of churchgoers) causing particular offence.
The BBFC comments that it saw an incomplete version of the film which would have received an 18 classification, and provided advice on how to reduce its rating by shortening moments of strong violence and not dwelling on pain or injury.
The organisation notes that one particular crude sex reference drew multiple complaints, but was left in the film due to comic context.

With production scheduled to begin this June, the cast is starting to fill out for Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Simon Pegg is in talks to star in the adaptation of Ernest Cline's novel as Orgen Morrow, the co-creator of a virtual gaming world known as Oasis. The adaptation was originally set to hit theaters next December, but it was pushed into 2018 last month, to avoid competing with Star Wars: Episode VIII.
If a deal is finalized, Simon Pegg will join a cast that includes Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn. Ready Player One centers on a teenager named Wade Watts, who becomes obsessed with a virtual reality world known as Oasis, that allows players to live out their fantasies. After the game's creator suddenly dies, an elaborate treasure hunt is held within the Oasis world, with the winner emerging to take control of the entire company.

Lionsgate and the world.s exhibitors were probably betting that nearly everyone who saw The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 would roll up to the finale.
How wrong they were -- and by a long shot. In Australia the finale of the franchise based on Suzanne Collins. novels rang up $9.8 million on 624 screens. That.s $2 million less than the debut of part 1 and Catching Fire.s $12.5 million opening in 2013.
Some exhibitors were theorizing that the Francis Lawrence-directed action fantasy was impacted by going against the second weekend of Spectre. That may be so although the Bond film plunged by 52 per cent to $5.4 million, scoring $20.6 million so far.
Another possible explanation is that some cinemagoers were so let down by part 1 they had no desire to see how the story ended. Or maybe it.s just that part 2 is bleak, too long and lacking the excitement and thrills of earlier editions.

Is ITV really going to bring back Cold Feet?
