While it seemed nothing could go wrong between Keke Palmer and her former husband Darius Jackson, last year, the two parted ways after the latter took to his social to call out Palmer over her attire at Usher’s concert. Not long after the duo welcomed their son, Leo, Jackson’s comment contributed to their marriage falling off, as the Nope star opted to take things to court.

Although the two remain on good terms now, the actress finally broke her silence on the tumultuous chapter of her life, and why she took the court route in the first place.

Melvins drummer Dale Crover has released another new solo single, “Spoiled Daisies,” which features guest guitarwork from Ty Segall.
The track hails from Crover’s forthcoming third solo LP, Glossolalia, out September 13th via Joyful Noise. The singles so far have seen Crover in throwback garage-rock mode, with “Spoiled Daisies” following suit. It’s a catchy bit of guitar psych-pop, and the Segall feature — “a raging, psychedelic guitar solo,” in Crover’s words — is apt.

“This one is about a psychedelic mushroom trip gone wrong,” Crover said via a press release for the track. “You’re looking for spirituality through psychedelics but end up having a bad trip and are exiled from the Garden of Eden.”

Melvins drummer Dale Crover has dropped a new song titled “I Quit” featuring Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil.
The track hails from Crover’s forthcoming solo album, Glossolalia, arriving September 13th via Joyful Noise. Structured around odd-tuned riffs and simple, pocketed drums, it’s grungy slice of garage rock that is ripe for a wild guest solo from Thayil.

“It’s about trying to control people and thinking that you’re right about everything,” said Crover of the song via a press release. “It’s in a tuning that I call ‘Lazy Keith Richards.’ It opens in G, but you can only tune the A string to G. I thought it would be cool to get Kim to do a guitar solo on the track. That’s him after the second chorus.”

Dolly Parton, sitcom star? It almost happened in the 1990s. Nearly 30 years ago, the iconic singer/actor was set to star in a comedy series for CBS. But even though Parton taped six episodes of her show, titled Heavens to Betsy, they never made it to air.
Dolly Parton was set to star in a CBS sitcom
Parton rose to fame as a country singer. But by the 1980s she was making waves as an actor thanks to roles in movies such as 9 to 5, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Steel Magnolias. Given her comedic chops, it’s not surprising that Parton considered making a move to TV.
In 1993, Touchstone Television announced that Parton would star in a CBS sitcom called Dixie’s Fixins’, about the romantic misadventures and mishaps of a cable cooking show host, the Washington Post reported. That show was scuttled before production began,...

“Jolene” is one of Dolly Parton’s most successful songs, and continues to be relevant years after she released it. The song is about a woman pleading with another to stay away from her man. However, it comes from Parton’s authentic experience when she felt threatened by another woman taking her husband, Carl Dean. Parton said Dean felt “embarrassed” by “Jolene” as he is the man referenced in the song.
Dolly Parton said her husband was initially ‘embarrassed’ by ‘Jolene’
“Jolene” is a classic song in the history of country music. It has a fantastic rhythm and perfect lyrics by Parton. The lyrics are not artificial, as they come from Parton’s personal insecurities. In a 2014 appearance at Glastonbury, Dolly Parton revealed the inspiration behind “Jolene”. The story was based on an interaction between her husband and a redheaded bank teller, who her husband was spending a bit too much time with.

Chlöe's mentor and confidant Beyoncé once said, "You know you that b*tch when you cause all this conversation." These days, Chlöe is used to being a trending topic on social media. Not that the 24-year-old singer, songwriter, and actor pays attention to it, seeing as she occasionally removes apps like Twitter and Instagram from her phone when the negative comments get overwhelming.
"It's been hard, difficult, [and] unsettling," Chlöe tells Popsugar of dealing with constant judgment from some of her biggest critics online. "I could go down the whole negative path but I have to learn to not really care and to know that as long as I am being authentically and unapologetically myself, then I'm good."

Last week, “The Equalizer” star and executive producer Queen Latifah announced that the hit CBS series had been picked up for a third and fourth season.
The show, in which Latifah plays vigilante Robyn McCall, is currently the network’s No. 2 primetime series, behind only stalwart show “NCIS,” so the multi-season commitment is logical. But success is never a given, at least not in Latifah’s eyes, who told Variety she’s “never satisfied” with the status quo.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to have a film career where we were always coming up with new things. We’re always trying to push the envelope and be more creative, so I bring that mentality to television,” she explained. “How can we push it even further? How can we make it even more beautiful or more interesting?”

The latest in our series of writers standing up for hated films is a defence of the beloved director’s genre-splicing flop
There aren’t many directors who’ve put together a run of great films quite like that of the legendary John Carpenter. The genre film maestro’s remarkable streak, stretching from his brutal Hawksian riff Assault on Precinct 13 in 1976, to his muscular political satire They Live in 1988, is a miraculous showcase of stylistic elasticity. Could any other film-maker have shifted from the greasy nastiness of Christine to the glowing warmth of Starman within a year, without breaking stride?

The latest in our series of writers sticking up for maligned films is a defence of the Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah musical comedy
Joyful Noise lives with an undignified 32% splat on Rotten Tomatoes. This story of a small gospel choir in Georgia did not charm critics, who found it saccharine, too long and baggy, its handling of social issues – recession and Asperger syndrome, mostly – unforgivably clumsy. None of those criticisms are untrue, technically. It is a portrait of small-town America rendered in crayon, its colours crude and simple. But it is so full of both heart and genuinely unhinged decisions that I return to it again and again for a feelgood fix.

A revival of MTV’s ’90s dating show classic is coming to Quibi with multihyphenate Hustlers star Keke Palmer and comedian and Sunnyside standout Joel Kim Booster as hosts. The series is set to launch on the short-form mobile video platform in Spring 2020.
Earlier this year, MTV Studios revealed that they were bringing the classic dating show as well as Punk’d to Quibi. The original Singled Out ran from 1995 to 1998 with Chris Hardwick and Jenny McCarthy as hosts. Each episode featured a group of 50 singles competing for a date with one contestant. The new iteration will hook up a new generation of singles, of all genders and sexual preferences, seeking love in 20 bite-sized episodes. Reflective of today’s dating landscape, where everyone is connected, the series will bring online dating to life with a twist — the main dater is linked to the pool of diverse singles through social media.

Katy Perry has released her new song “Harleys in Hawaii.” Perry co-wrote the song with Charlie Puth, Johan Carlsson and Jacob Kasher, all of whom also worked with her on recent single “Small Talk.”
Directed by Barcelona-based studio Manson, the music video lives up to the song title as Perry rides a Harley on a Hawaiian highway, stopping along the way to sing karaoke at a tiki bar or sit along the shoreline and gaze out at the Pacific.
“Harleys in Hawaii” is Perry’s third single as lead artist this year.

Katy Perry, Capitol Records and the singer’s “Dark Horse” collaborators have filed an appeal to the verdict that ruled against them in the plagiarism case bought by Marcus Gray, a.k.a. Flame. The July verdict found that Perry and her team had copied aspects of their 2013 hit from a 2008 Christian rap song and held them liable for $2.78 million in damages.
The appeal was filed in California on October 9th, according to Variety, and the defendants are asking for the courts to either overturn the original verdict or grant them a new trial.

Katy Perry and her tiny teacup poodle compete in the Mutt Ball in her new video for “Small Talk.”
The peppy pop song describes the awkwardness of a breakup (“going from strangers to lovers to strangers”), but the video, directed by Tanu Muino, tells a different story. Perry arrives with her poodle to the Mutt Ball (“Making fetch happen”), a gathering of dog owners who closely resemble their dogs. Perry ends up falling for a handsome man with a pet Weimaraner, and pretty soon, it’s total puppy love for all parties.

After much speculation as to whether Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie would be returning to judge “American Idol” on ABC, the network has confirmed the trio will all be back once more to search for America’s next musical superstar.
ABC and series producer Fremantle had been in discussions regarding ways to bring down costs on the show, especially given Perry’s astounding $25 million a year salary, but the lineup for the show’s third season on the network will remain unchanged.
Perry has been making headlines recently after a jury found that she and her song “Dark Horse” infringed on the copyright of Flame’s song “Joyful Noise” in a $2.78 million decision. Perry and her co-writers called the decision “a travesty of justice.”

Katy Perry hasn’t released a new album in two years. But the pop star’s name lit up headlines this week as fervidly as if she had, when a jury unanimously ruled that her 2013 smash hit “Dark Horse” copied an older song from a little-known Christian rapper — a decision that, in rare combination, has sent both celebrity bloggers and intellectual properly lawyers atwitter.
“Dark Horse” came under fire in 2014 from rapper Flame (real name Marcus Gray), who alleged that it ripped off the beat from his 2009 song “Joyful Noise.

A jury unanimously ruled that Katy Perry’s 2013 hit single “Dark Horse” improperly copied Christian rapper Flame’s 2009 song “Joyful Noise.” The nine-member federal jury in a Los Angeles determined that Perry and her co-writers and producers will owe unspecified damages for copyright infringement.
“Dark Horse,” which has sold more than 13 million copies worldwide, credits several songwriters, including Perry and Sarah Hudson, who wrote the lyrics, and rapper Juicy J, who wrote his verse. The track was produced by Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Cirkut, who created the beat in question during the week-long trial.

Legal and ethical hassles dominated the music industry’s attention this week, as trials and tribulations made headline news.
In the biggest outcome, the integrity of Prince’s recorded music legacy has been upheld in a lawsuit filed by his estate against Eye Records, which is described as a “bootleg label dedicated to Prince” in court papers.
A judge has awarded the Prince estate a $7 million default judgment and ordered Eye Records to take down all of its bootlegged Prince property. Eye had released 18 Prince compilations since his death, including live performances and unreleased tracks. The website housing the purloined material has been taken down.
McCartney Theatrical Musical: Yes, Paul McCartney was in several bands before writing his first theatrical musical. A post this week to McCartney’s website indicates Macca is adapting Frank Capra’s It’s A Wonderful Life into a musical. Tony Award-winning writer Lee Hall is doing the book.

You'll probably never get a good look at them, but Dolly Parton apparently has tattoos all over her body. The 72-year-old country singer always wears long sleeves, thus hiding at least two tattoos on her arm: a butterfly and an angel. And other celebs say they've seen tattoos on her breasts, as well! In 1996, talk show host Jay Leno spied Dolly's arm tattoos when she wore a dress with shoulder cut-outs on The Tonight Show. She told him she had a "little butterfly and a little angel, [her] guardian angel." (You can get a glimpse of that butterfly here.) Since then, she has neither said much about her tattoos nor worn many arm-baring outfits, but she has at least explained why she has gotten so much ink. Rainy days are just an excuse for pretty umbrellas. Don't let it slow you down! #MondayMotivation A post shared by Dolly Parton (@dollyparton) on...

Prince Harry could not have looked any happier while visiting Naz, a sexual health charity, in London on Tuesday. The young royal continued his bid to promote HIV awareness by meeting with members of the Joyful Noise Choir and encouraging them to not be scared of the stigma attached to their disease. His latest appearance comes just a few days after Harry linked up with Princess Charlene of Monaco at a rugby match between England and South Africa in London. It was also reported that Meghan paid him a short visit over the weekend after she was spotted grocery shopping near Kensington Palace, so perhaps Meghan is the reason for his smile?
