It seems likely that Jane Seymour will always be best known for her work as the lead on the long-running TV show Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman. But, says the British actress, that's not a bad thing at all, because she truly enjoyed both the show and the experience of making the show. In fact, the closeness of that cast and crew wasn't unlike what she found while making Lake Effects, a family movie originally made for television that's just come out on DVD. Seymour is the mother to two girls, Lily (Madeline Zima), who still lives nearby her lakeside home in Virginia, and Sara (Scottie Thompson), who has left for the big city and a powerful law office. But Sara returns home when her father (Jeff Fahey) dies tragically, and has to confront the fact that maybe where she comes from, despite its slow pace and lack of cell phone signal,...

At a certain point, you have to stop thinking of movies as entertainment and start looking at them as ceremonies; that's the only way to look at something like the output of Hallmark films. Their stories are so similar and their audience so static, that you have to look at these less as narratives than as daily affirmations to reinforce things you already believe with fictional set-ups and characters. But even by those standards, Lake Effects is pretty weak, weak enough that not even typically likeable actors can make Hallmark's aggressive attempts to inspire feel like anything other than unwarranted groping.
After the death of her father (Jeff Fahey), Sara (Scottie Thompson) returns home from her high-profile law firm in Los Angeles to the quaint mountain town she grew up in to help her mother (Jane Seymour) and sister Lily (Madeline Zima) through the grieving process. Just how quaint is Smith Mountain Lake?...

Chicago – Jane Seymour is a memorable beauty, and has found success in virtually all areas of the media. After breaking through with films such as “Live and Let Die” and “Somewhere in Time,” she was “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” for six seasons on TV. She returns with “Perfectly Prudence” on the Hallmark channel.
The television movie marks the second time Seymour has played Prudence McCoy, a British version of Martha Stewart. In this go around, new producers come in to remake Prudence’s show. One of the producers is played by Joe Lando, notable because he was Seymour’s Dr Quinn co-star throughout the series. Their on-screen chemistry is revived, and the complications of re-tooling Prudence gives this adventure a comic touch.
