Just before his most important fight, Latino boxer Leonel Reina is deported from the United States. Boxer Leonel Raina is deported to Mexico just as he was about to enter the ring for the most important bout of his life. Adrift in Mexico City's Central Market, Leonel - who doesn't speak Spanish - ends up entangled in a conflict with local gangster El Gordo. Just before the most important fight of his life, Leonel Reina, a Latino boxer in the United States, is deported from the country. Unable to speak a word of Spanish and suddenly astray in the Central Market, Leonel ends up entangled in a conflict with El Gordo, the neighborhood gangster. Assisted by Iker, Kevin and Miss Meche, Leonel sets out on a desperate journey to prove that he is an American citizen and return home.

After a night hiding out at Miss Meche's, Leonel receives devastating news from the US embassy. Leonel and Miss Meche form a bond while he spends the night at her house, in hiding from Commander Trejo and El Gordo. Later, Leonel is dealt life-shattering news when he goes to the US embassy to seek help to return home. Ms. Meche hides Leonel from Commander Trejo and El Gordo, who are looking for him to settle accounts. A connection emerges as he spends the night at her house in hiding. Iker and Kevin accompany Leonel to the US embassy so that he can return, but he discovers that his social security number is fake.

Leonel is betrayed by his friend Martin, and later he meets the local boxing coach, Don Chucho. Martin, Leonel's friend and opponent in the States, lies to Leonel in an attempt to make a move on Leonel's fiancée, Grace. El Gordo, meanwhile, tries to get closer to Miss Meche's sister, Yadi. Also, Leonel is reluctant to train with the neighborhood boxing coach Don Chucho, but has a change of heart after visiting a local orphanage. Leonel manages to contact Martin, his friend and opponent in the US. Martin lies to Leonel to prevent him from coming back, thereby allowing him to court Leonel's fiancée, Grace. Ms. Meche becomes upset with Leonel after learning about Grace's existence. El Gordo, meanwhile, tries to get close to Yadi, Meche's sister. Later, Leonel is reluctant to train with Don Chucho, the neighborhood coach, but has a change of heart when he accompanies Don Chucho to meet the children of an orphanage who also train with him.

Martin makes Grace believe that Leonel abandoned her, while El Gordo sets up a fight for Leonel. Martin continues to deceive Grace about Leonel's situation. Meanwhile, Miss Meche helps Leonel make a video for his parents in the States, while the two of them continue to grow closer. Also, El Gordo sets up a fight between El Mosquito and Leonel. Grace discovers that Martin is in touch with Leonel, but Martin makes her believe that he abandoned her. Leonel, meanwhile, makes a video with the help of Miss Meche to communicate with his parents in the US. Also, El Gordo organizes a fight between Leonel and El Mosquito and Leonel and Miss Meche continue to grow closer.

Leonel and Miss Meche are blamed for stolen money, and Leonel's parents learn where their son is. The money collected during the fight goes missing. Convinced that El Gordo and Trejo are responsible, Leonel, Iker and Kevin open their own investigation. Also, Leonel's parents find out what happened to Leonel. Also, El Gordo learns the truth about Yadi and Martin is confronted by Grace's parents. After spending the night together, Leonel and Miss Meche receive an unexpected visit from Grace, whose arrival sparks endless rumors and exaggerated gossip in the neighborhood. El Gordo finds out that Yadi is a transsexual and sends for her. While Grace pleads with Leonel to come back with her to the US, her parents confront Martin.
