J.K. Simmons‘ portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy is iconic, but it’s a role that Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee wanted for himself. While speaking with GQ, Simmons said that Lee confessed to him that he was jealous they didn’t even ask him to play the part.
“I had never met Stan and didn’t even know, and this is kind of obvious to anyone who’s really paying attention or smarter than I am, but Jjj was kind of based on Stan, the comic version of himself,” Simmons said. “He confessed to me at the time that, you know, he was a little jealous that they didn’t ask him to play the part in the movie, but ‘having seen you do it, I thought you were fantastic.’ Very, very nice things, which obviously, coming from the man, was a great, great compliment.

Doug Liman still has a bone to pick with Amazon MGM Studios over what happened to “Road House,” but he and others may put that bad blood aside if Amazon is as serious about expanding as it’s hinting around town.
As first reported in Reuters, Amazon and MGM want to ramp up to 16 theatrical releases per year by 2027, which a source with knowledge told IndieWire is accurate.
That’s more than double where the companies are at now, with just six theatrical titles planned in 2024. The 16 titles also doesn’t include any movies Amazon would release outside the U.S., the movies that it might acquire from other studios (sometimes in the 5-6 movies range), or even include the movies it intends to release directly to streaming on Prime Video.
That would be a major increase in output, and 16 releases — it’s unclear if (and unlikely) they’d all...

Updated with new release date: Sony said Tuesday that it will now open Miramax’s Here, the reteam of Forrest Gump filmmaker Robert Zemeckis and its stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, on November 1. It’s the only studio theatrical release going wide on that day after Samuel Goldwyn’s Liam Neeson title Absolution, Viva’s animated Hitpig and the George Huang-directed Luke Evans movie Weekend in Taipei. There’s been no buzz that Here will land a place at the fall’s film festival troika of Toronto, Venice and Telluride.
Previously, June 21: Sony said Friday that its new film Here, reuniting the director, writer, and stars of the classic Forrest Gump, will open wide via TriStar Pictures on November 15.
Previously, the film had been scheduled for an exclusive run in Los Angeles in New York on that date, with a limited and wide release to follow on November 22 and November 27, respectively.

Exclusive: Jeff Daniels (A Man in Full), Jared Harris (Chernobyl) and J.K. Simmons (Being the Ricardos) have signed on to star in Reykjavik, a historical drama from Sk Global (Anyone But You) that chronicles one of the most significant diplomatic achievements of modern times: The Reykjavik Summit.
Reykjavik takes place at the most dangerous point of the Cold War, watching as political enemies Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev meet in Iceland over one long, tense weekend to decide if there will be peace or war in the world.
Daniels plays U.S. President Reagan, with Harris as Soviet leader Gorbachev, and Simmons as United States Secretary of State George Shultz.
Michael Russell Gunn will direct from his own script, in his feature debut, following his work with Sk Global as showrunner of its acclaimed limited series Thai Cave Rescue for Netflix. He also produces alongside John Logan Pierson. Production will commence on location in Reykjavik, Iceland in early October, with extensive filming at Höfði House, the actual site of the 1986 summit.
Sources tell Deadline that Gunn’s project is one that he’s spent years working on and researching. His work began when he drove out to Stanford to interview Secretary of State Shultz before his passing, receiving now-declassified transcripts from the summit. With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the recent revelation that the U.S. will again deploy long-range missiles in Germany, the hope is to reflect on how we, as citizens and as nations, can come together to work past our differences, in pursuit of a better, safer world.
Daniels is coming off of A Man in Full, Netflix’s limited series from David E. Kelley, which adapts the 1998 novel from Tom Wolfe. Recently, he was also seen starring opposite Maura Tierney in the crime drama American Rust, which ran for two seasons.
Most recently boarding Kathryn Bigelow’s new film for Netflix, as we were first to report, Harris also stars in Apple TV+ and Skydance’s sci-fi series Foundation, based on the works of Isaac Asimov, which previewed its forthcoming third season at Comic-Con. Previously garnering Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Chernobyl, he’s also recently wrapped on the indies Brave the Dark and Reawakening.
Following roles in films like National Champions and Being the Ricardos, Simmons’ upcoming slate includes the Clint Eastwood pic Juror #2, Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night, Amazon’s sequel to The Accountant and holiday event film Red One, and the addiction film The Prince written by David Mamet.
Prior to Thai Cave Rescue, Gunn wrote and produced for the critically acclaimed Showtime series Billions, as well as the political thriller Designated Survivor for ABC and Netflix, having begun his career on Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom. On the film side, he sold his script The Virginian about a young George Washington to Warner Bros, and is currently adapting a novel for Charlize Theron at Universal.
Indie studio Sk Global has produced and financed over 100 features, dating back to its origins as Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Most recently, the company unveiled the acclaimed rom-com Anyone But You, a star-making project for Glen Powell, who led the cast opposite Sydney Sweeney. The Sony pic emerged as a sleeper hit upon its December 2023 release, proving that rom-coms can continue to work theatrically as it grossed over $220 million worldwide. Also recently unveiling the acclaimed limited series Thai Cave Rescue, as well as inspirational docs like Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa, which just debuted on Netflix, the company is also responsible for such acclaimed titles as Crazy Rich Asians, Hell or High Water and The Place Beyond the Pines, among many others.
Daniels is repped by CAA, Martino Management, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes; Harris by CAA, Gateway Management, Independent Talent Group in the UK, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern; Simmons by Gersh; and Gunn by WME and Artists First.

In a surprising twist to the 2024 holiday movie season, Universal Pictures has shifted the release date of its highly anticipated musical adaptation “Wicked” to November 22, setting the stage for a potential box office showdown with Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II.”
The move places “Wicked,” directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, in direct competition with the sword-and-sandal epic featuring Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Pedro Pascal. This scheduling decision has sparked comparisons to the 2023 “Barbenheimer” phenomenon, where “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” shared a release date and both achieved remarkable success.
“Wicked,” based on the hit Broadway musical, tells the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and her unlikely friendship with Galinda, who becomes Glinda the Good Witch. The star-studded cast also includes Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and Peter Dinklage.

Maybe Jerry Seinfeld’s right, maybe movies really are dead. Exhibit A: The trailer for the new Christmas flick Red One, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, and J.K. Simmons as a distractingly shredded Santa Claus. Say what you will about Tim Allen, at least his Santa didn’t look like he was going to put creatine in your stocking and replace his toy workshop with a CrossFit gym.
Does anybody want to spend their holidays watching the Rock brawl with beefy CGI snowmen, and Captain America attempting to use a dash of Christmas magic to fuck a life-sized Wonder Woman action figure? Sure there have been a lot of bad Christmas films over the years, but at least that movie where Lindsay Lohan gets festive brain damage didn’t cost $250 million, which was reportedly the budget for Red One.

The trailer for Amazon’s reportedly troubled $250m action-comedy shows that it might just be weightless action mush
Red One, the upcoming Christmas movie from Amazon, is arguably among the most talked-about of the year. However, until now, the conversation has had little to do with the film itself. Instead, Red One looks set to go down in history as the film that tanked Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s reputation.
For the newcomers: in April, The Wrap ran a feature about exactly how troubled Red One’s production allegedly was, with several insiders pointing to The Rock’s chronic unwillingness to work as a key factor. Among claims of his wrongdoing, The Rock was accused of repeatedly showing up eight hours late to set, and also making his assistant dispose of bottles of his own urine that he’d fill when he couldn’t be bothered to walk to a bathroom.

Amid some recent controversy surrounding star Dwayne Johnson's alleged on-set behaviour (you'll find no peeing in bottles here), Amazon MGM Studios has released the first trailer for new fantasy action comedy, Red One.
The movie stars Johnson as a North Pole security agent who teams-up with a skilled but "naughty" bounty hunter (Chris Evans) to track down and rescue an impressively jacked Santa Claus (J.K. Simmons) when he's kidnapped by a group of unknown assailants.
Along the way, the mismatched pair face-off against some buff snowmen, Krampus, and other slightly dodgy-looking CGI creatures
Wonder Woman even gets a mention when Johnson's character takes an ordinary toy Hot Wheels car and turns it into a full-sized Chevy Corvette, prompting Evans to go back into the store and ask: “You don’t have a Wonder Woman action figure, do you?”

Ho-ho-hold onto your hats folks — it may only be June, but it’s never too soon to start getting in the festive spirit! Amazon MGM Studios have just dropped the first trailer for Jake Kasdan's (Jumanji) upcoming yuletide actioner Red One, which sees Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans opposite-sides-of-the-tracks security head and bounty hunter tasked with tracking down a missing Santa Claus — who just so happens to be played by a ripped J. K. Simmons (naturally). Check out the first trailer for the movie below:
Polar bear heavies! Snowmen throw downs! The Rock slapping Krampus! Miracle On 34th Street this most assuredly ain't. Rather, it looks like we're getting a big, adventurous, star-filled family Christmas blockbuster bolstered by Evans and Johnson's boundless charisma and some nifty looking action set-pieces, all wrapped up in an intriguing fantasy-inflected mystery. Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans set out to save Santa in Red One, and the first trailer has landed here.
Santa Claus has been kidnapped. Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans have to fight their way across the world to save him.
It’s the kind of elevator pitch that makes you wonder how it took this long for the film to appear. Not to be confused with Red Notice, the Netflix action film in which Johnson starred in 2021, the synopsis for Red One reads as follows:
After the shocking abduction of Santa Claus (Jk Simmons) from the North Pole, the Commander of the E.L.F. Task Force (Dwayne Johnson) must partner with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter (Chris Evans) to save Christmas.
Jk Simmons as Santa Claus might just be the best casting decision since David Harbour donned the red coat to batter some bad guys in 2022’s fun...

There are almost no words for what you’re about to witness — but we’ll try. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson teams with Chris Evans to save a kidnapped, jacked Santa Clause (J.K. Simmons) and slap-fight Krampus in the first trailer for Red One.
Coming from Amazon MGM, Red One is already somewhat infamous. Originally scheduled for release last holiday season, the film was delayed, with the studio citing the SAG-AFTRA strike as the reason. However, reports from earlier this year also put blame on The Rock, whose excessive lateness ballooned the movie’s budget to a reported $250 million. If that cost feels more like a Marvel movie than a Christmas romp… well, you’re not far off.
The Rock stars as Santa’s primary E.L.F. (Extremely Large and Formidable) agent, with Big Red’s workshop and present delivery operation working more like a Fast and Furious spy...

"There's worse ways to go out than trying to save Santa Claus." MGM Studios has revealed the first official trailer for Red One, a big holiday action comedy from filmmaker Jake Kasdan, the director of the recent Jumanji movies. Here's the ridiculous Hollywood pitch for this movie: After a shocking abduction from the North Pole, the Commander of the E.L.F. Task Force must partner with the world's most infamous bounty hunter to save Christmas. Featuring J.K. Simmons as a super buff, badass Santa, referred to as just Nick. He gets kidnapped, somehow, by evil forces so "Callum Drift" – Head of Security for North Pole – brings in Jack O'Malley, an expert bounty hunter, to help find him and save Christmas. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Liu, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Nick Kroll, with Kristofer Hivju as Krampus & Bonnie Hunt as Mrs. Claus. "Red One is a fire-breathing...

They say any press is good press. In the entertainment industry, it’s a saying often applied to predominantly bad news or publicity for a celebrity. A great example is the predicament that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson finds himself in with the upcoming release of his movie “Red One.” In recent months, there has been some controversy surrounding Johnson’s behavior on the set of the upcoming holiday feature. For a star who’s popularly known for his somewhat classy behavior and hard work ethic while filming, it comes as a surprise that certain individuals have come forward to say that Johnson was tardy, arriving late to the production set on numerous occasions, causing delays, and ballooning the movie’s budget by nearly $50 million.

Now The Rock has a machine gun Christmas movie, ho-ho-ho.
Is it a stretch to say Dwayne Johnson has been in a bit of a slump of late? His return to wrestling earlier this year didn't go over well with WWE fans; his much-ballyhooed plan to change the hierarchy of the DC Universe with "Black Adam" and "DC League of Super-Pets" failed to pan out (but don't tell Johnson that); his Netflix action-comedy "Red Notice" was apparently watched by every single person on the planet yet nobody seems to remember a damn thing about it beyond the alcoholic product placement; and even his mega-expensive "Jungle Cruise" movie was the victim of a bungled hybrid streaming and theatrical release (although the tepid reviews probably didn't help).
Hoping to turn things around, The Rock is joining forces with his "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" and "The Next Level" director Jake Kasdan for "Red One,...

Dwayne Johnson has taken to his social media in a fun way to tease the release of the trailer for Red One, as well as reveal the teaser poster. While Johnson heals from the injuries he sustains from his upcoming A24 film The Smashing Machine, he posts an all-points bulletin, or rather an all-points alert, that calls for the help of finding Santa Claus, played in the film by J.K. Simmons. Johnson then punctuates the message with a teaser poster and an announcement that the trailer will premiere online tomorrow. In the Apb, Johnson points to those who may know of Santa’s whereabouts to call the number on the bottom of the poster.
Johnson’s message reads,
“!!Missing: Santa Claus [Code Name: Red One]!!
All points alert to everyone around the world— be on the lookout for this man.
Last seen at the North Pole. If you have any information, please reach out to the E.

Do Disneyland’s Blue Bayou patrons smell what The Rock is cooking?
Dwayne Johnson and his production banner Seven Bucks Productions have signed a multi-year, first-look film deal with Disney, IndieWire has confirmed. The unique agreement also includes a carveout that opens the door to seeing a lot more of The Rock across Disney’s brands.
Johnson and his partner Dany Garcia will develop films for theatrical and streaming, and it’s possible that Johnson could star in those movies. He’s already starring in the live-action “Moana” opening July 10, 2026, and he’ll be back for the animated “Moana 2” coming out this November.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
There is also a cross-platform element to this deal that would let Seven Bucks create content across multiple divisions with The Walt Disney Company. Think theme parks and ESPN. Heck, maybe The Rock’s face gets plastered all...

Exclusive: Director Cameron Van Hoy has entered production on The Prince, a new feature drama penned by Pulitzer Prize winner and Oscar nominee David Mamet. Scott Haze (Old Henry) leads a starry ensemble that also includes Nicolas Cage (Pig), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Giancarlo Esposito (Parish) and Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven).
The Prince chronicles an addict’s tumultuous odyssey through the high-stakes world of power, pleasure, and pain on a transformative journey toward recovery.
While unconfirmed, we’re told by multiple sources close to the project that the lead character Parker, played by Haze, is inspired at least in part by Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, whose abuse of drugs and alcohol is well documented — including in his 2021 memoir Beautiful Things — and who was found guilty Tuesday in Delaware of three felony counts related to the purchase of a gun in 2018.

Despite returning to WWE, following his DC exit, Dwayne Johnson’s tenure, particularly at the DC Universe, seems to be marred by recent allegations surrounding his Black Adam project. To add to the disgrace of arguably the most controversial movie of the actor’s life, stories are surfacing about the making of the Dceu movie with CGI and stunt double.
Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam | Warner Bros. DC Studios
With the latest report about the production of Black Adam arriving from popular wrestling journalist Jim Cornette, it has been revealed that Dwayne Johnson extensively used his stunt double to shoot several scenes. Later on, CGI was employed to replace the stunt double’s face with Johnson’s, in those particular scenes. This revelation comes in the wake of reports shedding light on Johnson’s habit of arriving hours late to movie sets.

After former presidential candidate Nikki Haley signed an Israeli shell with the contextually-horrific phrase “finish them” last week, the act of “bomb-signing” has come under scrutiny online, and now, Captain America actor Chris Evans is at the center of the conversation.
Specifically, a photo of Evans signing what appears to be a bomb has gone viral, with some suggesting that the pic is related to Israel’s ongoing siege of Gaza. In response, the actor has spoken out against this “misinformation,” clarifying that the photo is not recent, and was actually taken in 2016 when he was on a Uso tour visiting American troops in Turkey.
“I was with a group of actors, athletes, and musicians to show appreciation for our service members,” Evans said in a statement posted to his Instagram story. Addressing the item itself, Evans explained: “The object I was asked to sign is not a bomb, or a missile,...

As A24 releases the first official image from the film, the movie star seems to be fully committing to this new direction of dramatic roles.
When news first emerged that Dwayne Johnson, movie star extraordinaire was signing up for an indie drama for A24, it was quite the revelation. Johnson has built a career which in the last decade has largely been founded upon his brand with each successive film simply being an extension of his movie star persona.
However, a few months ago a sudden career swerve was announced. Johnson was named as the lead in A24’s Mma indie drama, The Smashing Machine, a film about the successes and tragedies of Mark Kerr, a mixed martial arts champion who certainly did not live the ultra-squeaky clean life that we’ve come to expect from most of Johnson’s characters.

Marvel Studios has a slew of projects in the pipeline, despite Iger’s announcement of a significant reduction in output. One of the most eagerly awaited is undoubtedly a live-action reboot of ‘X-Men.’
The reboot has been on the cards since Disney acquired the rights to Fox properties like X-Men and Fantastic Four. While we can’t confirm if the rumor we have is directly linked to the X-Men reboot, it certainly seems likely.
Reportedly, Marvel Studios is eyeing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to portray the well-known X-Men villain, Apocalypse. Apocalypse was previously portrayed by Oscar Isaac in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ and since Isaac is already cast as Moon Knight in the MCU, it makes sense they’re looking for a different actor.

The Rock has experience with superhero roles, like his recent portrayal of ‘Black Adam.

Marvel Studios has plenty of projects in the making, even after it was announced by Iger that they plan on significantly reducing their output. One of the most anticipated projects it’s certainly an ‘X-Men’ live-action reboot.
The reboot has been in plans ever since Disney took control of Fox properties X-Men and Fantastic Four. Now we don’t know whether the rumor we have for you is tied specifically to the X-Men reboot but it certainly sounds like that.
Namely, according to MyTimeToShineHello Marvel Studios is looking to nab Dwayne The Rock Johnson to play notable X-Men villain, Apocalypse. Apocalypse has was already adapted to screen for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ played by Oscar Isaac, and since he is already playing Moon Knight in the MCU, it’s understandable why they simply can’t rehash the actor.
