Unlike most other Batman tv shows, I find plots, stories and characters here to be a bit flat, average.
Let's not forget that Batman: TAS was that good because Bruce Timm but also Paul Dini, who is absent here. Instead we get Matt Reeves and franchise wreckin' crew - JJ Abrams and Bad Robot.
Most changes that were made are pointless. Penguin is a woman now, and that would be fine if the voice was wretched like in most versions up to date but it's not. It's pretty flavorless. Also, speaking of flavorless - Harley Quinn, who originated in the original show, which this is spiritual successor of - is a thicc asian black haired woman. And her costume is yellow (What?). Accent, almost gone, fun - absent. Very dour character. And I guess Barbara and Jim Gordon are now just black, whatever. Alfred is also a thicc boi, and Batman is kinda rude.
As for animation, it's fine. However I didn't like some style choices. I really don't like how Two-Face looks. It's just completely uninspired. I'm also not a fan of early Batman costume with weird ears pointing to the side. But fine, it's a choice, I guess.
Music is, also fine but very, very generic. It's really a shame compared to the original show, and well, most of them since. This is just generic as it comes.
It's an okay show, but not in the same league as The Animated Series, not by a long shot. Plots are fine, bland mostly. Some episodes are better than the other. I kinda didn't like this version of Batman but it still works.
It's fortunate that Batman and Co. Are ultimately maleable characters and you can do them in many ways. Unlike Superman, which you can do it in only few certain ways and make it right, Batman can be completely remade and still make sense. Unfortunately, they didn't do much here. It's like AI spat out random generic Batman show, different enough to not copy anything else.
