Exclusive: Netflix and Kevin Hart are continuing their strong relationship as sources tell Deadline that Hart is set to star in the comedy 72 Hours with Tim Story directing. Hartbeat, Davis Entertainment, Counterbalance and Will Packer are producing from a script by Matt Mider & Kevin Burrows, Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg, who penned the script ten years ago.

The film follows a 40-year-old executive who hopes to save his flailing career by joining a group of twentysomethings on a wild three-day bachelor party, after he’s inadvertently added to their group text. Ross Fanger is exec producing. The film is being produced under a partnership in which Sony Pictures, that began in 2021, will offer Netflix a first look at any films it intends to make for streaming.

Looney Tunes fans probably thought that the arrival of The Day the Earth Blew Up in cinemas might be a turning point for the legendary animated franchise, but it seems that Warner Bros. Discovery has instead decided to make it harder than ever for fans to be able to watch the antics of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and other colorful characters. Not content with locking the Coyote vs Acme movie away in a safe, inside a box, wrapped in chains and behind a roomful of lazers, a host of Looney Tunes programs, along with several Scooby Doo movies and two Tom & Jerry movies, have now been quietly dropped from Max.

The Simpsons is one of the greatest animated sitcoms of all time. It has so many different and hilarious repeating bits that there's bound to be something for any potential viewer to cherish. For many, one of them is an ultra-violent cartoon called The Itchy and Scratchy Show. Looks like Christopher Nolan is not the only one making a film titled The Odyssey. Puerto Rican singer and pop idol Juan Carlos a.k.a Ozuna is all set to bring his life story to the big screen with his upcoming biopic Odisea. The Taki Taki singer will reportedly star in the film, portraying himself as a young Ozuna during his struggling days.

Ozuna announced the film on Christmas Day. The singer is known for his chart-topping Latin albums and was seen in films like F9 and Father of the Bride. He will reportedly be making his debut as an executive producer with Odisea. His debut studio album was also named the same.

Warner Bros. is reportedly developing a sequel to Barbie, Greta Gerwig's live-action blockbuster hit starring Margot Robbie as the primary Barbie protagonist. Despite Gerwig's initial resistance to returning for a hypothetical Barbie 2, it seemed inevitable that Warner Bros. would pursue a franchise – especially after the first film grossed a record-breaking $1.4 billion worldwide. If there must be a Barbie sequel (there mustn't), at least Gerwig is involved.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gerwig and co-writer Noah Baumbach have "hatched an idea" for a sequel that's said to be in the early stages at Warner Bros. It's unclear if Gerwig would return to direct in addition to script-writing duties. When reached for a comment, a rep for Gerwig and Baumbach said, "There is no legitimacy to this reporting." A rep for Warner Bros. called THR's report "inaccurate."

Tom & Jerry are returning in a big way, as two of the writers behind the Toy Story franchise and Rashida Jones are set to develop a theatrical feature film. Created by Hanna-Barbera in 1941, the slapstick duo has starred in over 166 animated shorts and several additional spin-offs. Two theatrical Tom & Jerry movies have been developed, including an animated feature in 1992 titled Tom and Jerry: The Movie, and a live-action/animation hybrid movie released in 2021.

As reported by Deadline, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation has begun development on a new Tom & Jerry movie. Though no director has been announced, it has been confirmed that Jones will write alongside Will McCormack and Michael Govier. McCormack and Govier's credits include Toy Story 4.

In 2021, Warner Bros. released two hybrid animated releases, which involved some of the most beloved figures in pop culture. Unfortunately, both failed to wow fans upon its release. But while both Space Jam 2 and Chloë Grace Moretz’s Tom & Jerry were critically panned disasters, the latter rubbed most the wrong way, as unlike Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry has rarely worked on the big screen.

However, this isn’t stopping Warner Bros. from dipping their toes into the beloved IP once again, and hopefully, this time they would reject one aspect of the 2021 release, which proved to be a turn-off for many from the get-go.

Since the characters’ inception, Tom & Jerry have mostly relied on slapstick comedy and over-the-top action with little to no narrative.

Some of the most beloved animated characters in the history of television are coming back for a new adventure. Deadline reports that a new Tom & Jerry feature is in the works at Warner Bros. and Rashida Jones, Will McCormack and Michael Govier have been hired to write the project. The movie will be produced through Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, and it will be different from the recent hybrid adventure that delighted audiences — but missed the mark with critics — on the big screen a few years ago. Details connected to the plot of Tom & Jerry's return are currently kept under wraps by the studio.

They will be starting fresh on the new iteration of the misadventures of the cat Tom and mouse Jerry, hatched in 1940 by William Hanna & Joseph Barbera at MGM. Until MGM shuttered its animation division, they made 114 shorts that won 7 Oscars. Later versions came from Gene Deitch and Chuck Jones, and then others. India’s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment has tapped Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu for her Bollywood debut in “Baaghi 4.” The announcement comes exactly three years after Sandhu’s Miss Universe win.

The film, helmed by director A. Harsha, will feature Sandhu alongside established stars Tiger Shroff and Sanjay Dutt, with Sonam Bajwa rounding out the cast. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala continues his track record of launching new talent, following his previous introductions of Shroff, Kriti Sanon and Ahan Shetty to Hindi-language cinema.

Sandhu previously acted in the Punjabi-language films “Bai Ji Kuttange” (2022) and “Yaaran Diyan Poun Baaran” (2023).

“Baaghi 4,” the latest installment in Nadiadwala’s action franchise, is slated for theatrical release on Sept. 5, 2025.

Banijay Entertainment has secured worldwide format rights to “My Name Is Gabriel” (“Mai Neim Ijeu Gabeuriel”) from Korea’s Teo Corp. The format, created by P.D. Kim Tae-ho (“Infinite Challenge”) and P.D.

Prime Video’s November programming will dip its toe into Christmas and other holiday offerings such as The Holiday (2006) starring Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jack Black. The streamer will also add some films with sequels arriving in theaters this month, like Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) and Ridley Scott’s 1992 film Gladiator.

When she discovers that her mother’s death was actually an unsolved murder, she sets out on a journey to discover the truth. The podcast follows Malloy as she confronts family members, interviews old friends, and unearths hidden evidence about her mother’s life and death.

Warning: Spoilers for Multiversus: Collision Detected #2!Like many long-time Looney Tunes fans, I was honestly shocked to see Bugs Bunny dropping a not-so-family-friendly joke in the preview for the latest issue of Multiversus: Collision Detected, by making a Basic Instinct reference, of all things, but to be honest, I wholeheartedly endorse it. Looney Tunes has always had a bit of an edge to it, and this is just the latest example.

Preview pages for Multiversus: Collision Detected #2 written by Bryan Q. Miller, with art by Jon Sommariva contain a reference that will shock some readers with how not-pg it is, while others might just be surprised that Bugs is doing a callback to a movie that came out in 1992.

For me, it raised the question of how much Loony Tunes has ever been PG; as I see it, half the appeal of Looney Tunes is subtle adult humor like this.

Fans of Tom and Jerry are in for a treat during the month of September. Max has officially announced that four Tom and Jerry projects, including The Tom & Jerry Show, Tom and Jerry: Robin Hood and His Merry Mouse, Tom & Jerry Tales, and Tom & Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, will officially begin streaming on Max on September 14. Most episodes of Tom & Jerry consist of the mouse, Jerry, getting up to his hilarious hijinx while the cat, Tom, is left to deal with the fallout, which usually results in Tom chasing Jerry around to no avail. The Tom and Jerry Show, which ran from 2011 to 2022, has more than 230 episodes and 40 writers that worked on the show during its 11-year run.

Animation will allow Evil Dead to push the limits of gore and horror in ways live-action never could. The franchise has always had a cartoonish influence, now it's literally becoming a cartoon with a new animated series. Bruce Campbell will reprise his role as Ash Williams in the new show, bringing his delightfully over-the-top performance to the animated world.

Bruce Campbell has confirmed that an Evil Dead animated series is in the works, and it has the chance to finally do something that the live-action movies never could. Ever since Evil Dead Rise revitalized the franchise in 2023, the series has had more projects in development than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an email to subscribers, the media giant has announced that September 30th will mark the closure of the service best known as the digital home for treasured animated classics from Hanna-Barbera, MGM, and Warner Bros. While some Boomerang content will find a new streaming home on HBO Max, the fate of other fan-favorite shows remains unclear. Industry insiders are weighing in on what the shift means for the future of these beloved characters in an ever-evolving media landscape.

Warner Bros. Discovery is shutting down the Boomerang streaming service and moving some of its programming, which includes many classic cartoon series, onto Max.

The kids-and-family move is set for September 30, according to an email to subscribers.

It comes in the same year as a similar strategic shift by Paramount Global, which shuttered Noggin and moved its content onto flagship Paramount+.

Boomerang, which began as a cable network in 2000 featuring a range of animated classics like Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry and Loony Tunes, became a streaming service in 2017. In more recent years, it expanded into original programming.

Subscriber numbers for Boomerang were never divulged. The niche offering is considerably cheaper than Max, but Wbd told subscribers their plans would be converted to the ad-free version of Max at no extra charge. Boomerang is $6 a month, while the ad-free tier of Max is $17.

Colin Jost will host Prime Video’s newest game show “Pop Culture Jeopardy!”

The “SNL” cast member is set to take the wheel of the spin-off series, which marks the first “Jeopardy!” show created exclusively for a major streaming service.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television, “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” gives a pop culture twist to “Jeopardy!” with contestants tested in categories from alternative rock to the Avengers; Broadway to Mma and Gen Z to Zendaya. Contestants play in teams of three in the tournament-style event.

Prime Video will also soon debut a new game show titled “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” which will be hosted Travis Kelce.

Bear with me. George Lucas once said audiences never understood the “Star Wars” prequels because his Lucasfilm classics were always meant for kids, not adults. But the truth of the matter is that good storytelling, like the original “Star Wars” movies or classic Pixar movies, works for and engages the hearts and minds of all audiences and not just children. The one exception to the rule might be the sometimes impossibly silly and zany “Despicable Me” franchise which is arguably generally geared at children only with its Minion mania chaos of fart jokes, pratfalls, burps, things that explode in your face, and pandemonium that’s more akin to classic “Tom & Jerry” or “Looney Toons” cartoons without the cleverness or elegance.

An official tie-in comic to the hit platform fighter game MultiVersus has the potential to settle who is animation's biggest badass once-and-for-all: Batman or Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. The official release for MultiVersus has been a fairly decent success for Warner Bros. following a lengthy hiatus. Now, the game is turning to comics to expand its lore with an official tie-in in partnership with DC Comics.

Wallet-conscious streaming TV service Frndly TV says it will offer Weigel Broadcasting’s new retro cartoon channel MeTV Toons when the network launches later this month.

The announcement was made in an email sent to some customers and business partners on Wednesday, and comes about a week after Frndly TV accidentally told a subscriber on Facebook that the channel would debut on the service.

“You’ve been asking for it, so we’re adding MeTV Toons to the Frndly TV lineup!” the email sent on Wednesday said, adding that viewers will be able to “catch all the classic cartoons on this new channel, coming soon!”

Low-cost streaming service Frndly TV has retracted a statement made on social media that it would carry the soon-to-launch retro cartoon channel MeTV Toons when it becomes available in late June.

The statement was made in response to a comment left on Frndly TV’s Facebook page, in which a spokesperson appeared to confirm the streaming service would carry MeTV Toons when it launches on June 25.

“We will be carrying this in our lineup — stay tuned!” the spokesperson said. Hours later, an official with Frndly TV followed up in a series of Facebook messages saying the affirmation was made in error, and that the streaming service could not comment on whether it will carry MeTV Toons at launch.

Frndly TV is one of two streaming TV platforms that carries channels from Weigel Broadcasting, the media company developing MeTV Toons.

Warner Bros. Discovery kept up with TV upfronts week’s biggest trend at their presentation out of The Theater at Madison Square Garden Tuesday: Promoting not just its TV slate as a prime ad-buying opportunity — but also its film franchises.

First up from CEO David Zaslav’s team, WB Discovery revenue and strategy chief Bruce Campbell addressed the Madison Avenue crowd following a sizzle featuring top Wbd IP and brands across film and TV series. Then Mindy Kaling took the stage to promote her Max comedy “The Sex Lives of College Girls” before introducing HBO and Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys.

Back in November, Mark Hamill told fans at Fan Expo San Francisco that he would no longer be portraying the Clown Prince of Gotham. 

Despite being considered by many to be the best Joker of all time, Hamill believed he just couldn't play the role unless it was opposite Kevin Conroy's Batman. Conroy, who voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman across several projects, passed away in November 2022.

But it seems there was a little caveat that allowed for Hamill to reprise the iconic villain role one final time in an upcoming game called MultiVersus. As it turns out, prior to his passing, Kevin Conroy also voiced Batman in the fighting game. It's perhaps for this reason that Hamill made an exception to his previous statement and returned to the role of Joker in the game.

For those unfamiliar, MultiVersus is a free-to-play platform fighter, in the same vein as Nintendo's Super Smash Bros.

After accidentally revealing the news to a handful of trade publications on earlier this week, Weigel Broadcasting and Warner Bros Discovery (Wbd) formally announced the forthcoming launch of their classic cartoon television network MeTV Toons on Thursday.

The channel will debut in June on broadcast stations across the country and on free, ad-supported streaming television platforms, and will include dozens of classic animated series like “Tom & Jerry,” “The Flintstones,” “Johnny Quest” and “Scooby-Doo.”

MeTV Toons builds off a Saturday morning cartoon block that has aired on Weigel-owned MeTV for several years now, which consisted primarily of animated shows from Warner Bros. MeTV Toons will expand on this idea by incorporating other Warner Bros series into the mix, along with shows from Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony’s Columbia Pictures and others.

With its list of May 2024 releases, Amazon Prime Video is giving us the kindest gift of all: cougar Anne Hathaway.

May 2 sees the premiere of The Idea of You, a romantic-comedy that features Hathaway as a 40-year-old mom finding romance with a 24-year-old boy band singer (Nicholas Galitzine). Having saved the medium of film forever, Prime Video is celebrating with some big time library titles this month as well. American Fiction and BlacKkKlansman arrive on May 14 and will be followed by Creed and Pearl: An X-traordinary Origin Story on May 16.

For its TV offerings, Prime is leading off with Outer Range season 2 on May 16. This James Brolin sci-fi Western will continue the mysteries of the strange happenings on Thanos’ ranch. Reality TV fans will be able to enjoy the Daniel Tosh-hosted competition series The Goat on May 9.

Itchy and Scratchy are responsible for some of the most memorable episodes of "The Simpsons." Every fan will fondly remember "The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show" or Marge's crusade against the ultra-violent kids' cartoon in "Itchy & Scratchy & Marge." The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation into the accident on the set of the Amazon MGM Studios film The Pickup.

A U.S. Department of Labor spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter early Wednesday that an inquiry had been initiated into the incident. “As the investigation is open, we are unable to provide preliminary or interim information at this time,” the spokesperson added.

The accident in question occurred on a second unit set of the Atlanta-based film on Saturday and injured multiple crewmembers, an Amazon MGM Studios spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday. Crewmembers were shooting an action sequence that had previously been rehearsed and “did not go as planned,” the spokesperson stated. “We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering.”
