In my eyes acting is one of the most key elements to success or failure of a film. Some film types can survive without superb acting. These motion pictures can entertain the viewer with special effects or intense action scenes. A film based on heavy dialog and back-story can not survive with out excellent actors. One such movie that meets the dialog-based criterion is Prom Night.
There are so many great shots, moments, and quotes from this movie short, that they are just too numerous to list in a review, nor would I want to ruin it for anybody who has not seen it, although I can not fathom why you haven't. If not, it is a must see.
To me this is more than just a short love story, it's an amazing attempt at real comedy that relies on more than just slapstick, situation and screwball alike; the film is an odd beast of basic convention, surrealist humor and come what may. The film is well-paced, never drags, and has its characters pegged pretty well.
It is far from just being a throwback to our own prom night nostalgia. At its core, it's a short that appeals to almost everyone, young or old, and with each and every watch, it should never fail to earn a chuckle or two. It's not too over-the-top to be unrealistic, and it never loses its human touch. Whatever gender or generation you come from, it's sure to win you over time and time again.
