Back in late September 2024, 20th Century Studios announced that it would be remaking the 1992 thriller classic The Hand That Rocks the Cradle with Longlegs actress Maika Monroe leading the cast. Now, we've just learned of a potential new cast addition. Scream queen Mary Elizabeth Winstead is reportedly in talks to join the remake, starring opposite Monroe.
Conversations are currently being had about Winstead joining the movie, but she has not officially signed on yet. Fingers crossed, an official agreement is reached because we would love to see her and fellow scream queen Maika Monroe act together, especially after knowing who they will be playing in the movie.

Horror fans rejoice! After being removed from Netflix, where it was originally released in 2016 following its premiere at SXSW that year, Mike Flanagan’s edge-of-your-seat thriller, “Hush,” is finally receiving a U.S. theatrical release. This news comes a month after it was announced that the film would also get its first physical release on 4K, featuring both a restored version of the original cut, as well as a new black-and-white “Shush Cut” with remixed audio, which premiered at Beyond Fest on September 27. The film is also now available to stream on Shudder.
“Hush” was co-written by Flanagan’s wife and longtime collaborator, Katie Siegel, who also stars in the film. She plays a deaf writer who retreats to the woods to work in solitude, only to find herself under attack by a masked killer. Known for its unique and chilling soundscape, the film toggles back and forth between the...

Mike Flanagan’s home invasion horror movie Hush (2016) made its debut on Digital courtesy of Shout! Studios just last week, the film finally available to watch again after disappearing from streaming for the past couple years. The film has also never received a physical media release, but we’ve learned that’s all changing thanks to Scream Factory later this year.
Hush comes to physical media for the very first time in a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray Collector’s Edition release from Scream Factory on November 26, 2024, the company announced today!
Scream Factory previews, “This highly anticipated Collector’s Edition includes a newly restored 4K version of the film, supervised and approved by Director Mike Flanagan.
“Additionally, a new black-and-white version of the film, nicknamed the “Shush Cut,” with a new audio mix will be featured. This mix removes nearly all of the score, providing a different effect that is just as terrifying as the original.

Back in February, cinephiles were between a rock and a hard place, eagerly awaiting news on the ever-evolving Predator franchise. Fast forward a few months and a bombshell hit the fanbase—Dan Trachtenberg, who directed Prey (2022), is announced as the pioneer to helm another installment in the saga.

This time around, he’s cooking up a little something called Badlands and casting none other than Elle Fanning, last seen messing with extraterrestrials in Super 8, joining the fray. But hang on a tick—why are some fans sharpening their pitchforks and firing up their keyboards in protest? The twist in the tale is that they’re miffed about the ‘future’ setting of the new flick.
You see, Prey struck gold with its enchanting historical angle set in the Comanche Nation circa 1719.

In the crowded landscape of alien invasion films, Brian Hanson’s The Bunker attempts to carve out a niche by combining the tension of isolation with the existential dread of extraterrestrial threat.
From the outset, The Bunker sets its tone with a familiar yet effective premise: mysterious alien ships appear in the skies, casting a shadow of impending doom over humanity. The film doesn’t linger on the spectacle of global chaos; instead, it zooms in, both literally and figuratively, on a single character, Dr. Michelle Riley, played by Edmundson. Tasked with the unenviable mission of creating a bio-weapon to defeat the extraterrestrial invaders, Riley is confined to a claustrophobic underground bunker, isolated from her team, who are similarly sequestered in their own bunkers.
This setup immediately brings to mind the psychological horror of films like 10 Cloverfield Lane, where the terror is as much about the unknown as it is about the physical threat.

Few movies have such broad "you had to be there" appeal as "Cloverfield." Released in 2008 after a much-hyped marketing campaign featuring title-free promos and cryptic web pages, the movie wowed (and to some extent divided) audiences with a prime bit of misdirection: it was a good old-fashioned kaiju film disguised as a found footage thriller disguised as a shaky cam home video-style story.
"Cloverfield" was made during a time when J.J. Abrams was known as the mystery-crafting maestro behind "Lost," not a polarizing part of the "Star Wars" universe. Director Matt Reeves, who would go on to make the emo-Robert-Pattinson-led blockbuster "The Batman," was then known for the college-set soap "Felicity." And while the film's cast members, including Lizzy Caplan and T.J. Miller, are recognizable today, they were mostly unknown at the time of its release, lending the project a "Blair Witch"-style verisimilitude.

Prime Video is the place to be in August with an incredible month of new releases. The month kicks off with the premiere of the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader on Aug. 1. The series was produced by J.J. Abrams and The Batman‘s Matt Reeves. We also return to Middle Earth this month with the premiere of The Rings of Power season 2 on Aug. 29.
As far as movies go, the Amazon original Jackpot! arrives on Aug. 15 starring Awkwafina and John Cena. This comedy is set in a world where Lottery winners have to survive until sundown in order to claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot – anyone who kills them before that gets to claim their prize.
The Hobbit trilogy also joins the Prime Video library this month, as do 21 and 22 Jump Street, Superman I-iv, Superman Returns, Night Swim, Drive Away Dolls, and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

It’s been eight years since the Netflix release of Mike Flanagan’s home invasion horror movie Hush, but it’s interesting to note that the film is no longer streaming on Netflix. A while ago, it was announced that It Follows director David Robert Mitchell was working on a mysterious project for Warner Bros. Pictures, Jackson Pictures, and J.J. Abrams’ company Bad Robot, with Anne Hathaway attached to star in the film. Since then, Ewan McGregor and Maisy Stella have signed on to join Hathaway in the cast, and now Variety reports that the main cast is rounded out with the addition of Christian Convery, whose credits include Cocaine Bear and the Netflix series Sweet Tooth. Variety hears that Stella and Convery will be playing the children of Hathaway and McGregor’s characters.
Pretty much everything about this project is being kept under wraps. Last year, film journalist Jeff Sneider reported the rumor that this happens to be “a dinosaur movie set in the ’80s”. In their report of the McGregor news, The Hollywood Reporter also said that their sources have described...

Before Mary Elizabeth Winstead played the roles of comic book-based Ramona Flowers and John McClane’s daughter, she starred as Lee Montgomery in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof. At the time, Winstead was making her mark in the horror slasher genre, even leading the ensemble cast of Final Destination 3. When she got the audition call for Death Proof, Winstead pulled off one little trick to get past the audition stage.

Winstead shared that she wore flip-flops to the audition to tap into the director’s alleged cinematic foot fetish. The Fargo actress managed to impress Tarantino with her take on Lee, rather than use her foot to get cast in the film.

It Follows director David Robert Mitchell’s 80s-set “IMAX thrill-ride” for Bad Robot is shrouded in secrecy. So could Flowervale Street be another Cloverfield spin-off? We look at the possible clues.
We’ve been following the slightly under-the-radar progress of Flowervale Street for some time now. An upcoming film from It Follows and Under The Silver Lake director David Robert Mitchell, it has been shrouded in secrecy for several months, with even that title currently in question.
As more details about the project have emerged, though, we’ve began to wonder: could it be another film in the Cloverfield series? If so, this would place it in a series that has so far included the 2008 original and the spin-offs 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) and The Cloverfield Paradox (2018).
Let’s take a quick look at the clues we currently have to hand.

Ewan McGregor has joined Anne Hathaway in It Follows director David Robert Mitchell’s mystery 80s-set dinosaur film, seemingly called Flowervale Street.
There’s an awful lot we don’t know about Flowervale Street, the upcoming film from It Follows and Under The Silver Lake director David Robert Mitchell. Even that title has a bit of a question mark hovering around it – on IMDb, the project’s simply billed as Untitled Anne Hathaway & Robert Mitchell Film, largely because it stars Anne Hathaway.
Several outlets, including World of Reel, have stated that its title is Flowervale Street, though, so that’s what we’ll go with for now.
According to Deadline, Ewan McGregor is the latest high-profile addition to the cast, and interestingly, the Hollywood outlet doesn’t mention the film’s title, either. Even its logline is still being kept secret, though Deadline echoes earlier reports that it’ll be a ‘thrill-ride’ shot on IMAX.

"Prey" was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2022. The film revived the "Predator" franchise after several years in a much-needed timeout following the disappointment that was Shane Black's "The Predator." In fairness, it seems Black signed up to make a different movie than the one we got, but that's neither here nor there. What's important is that director Dan Trachtenberg delivered the goods with his battle between the alien hunter and some unsuspecting Comanche in the 1700s. Now, at long last, Disney has confirmed that a sequel is coming. And, if there is justice in the world, it will be coming to a theater near you.
Very little has been revealed, although Trachtenberg is once again co-writing and directing a movie in the franchise called "Badlands." It will not be a direct sequel to "Prey" and, instead, will be taking us into the future to follow a different...

A new standalone “Predator” movie is in the works at 20th Century Studios, with filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg set to direct.
Plot details for “Badlands,” which will be set in the future, are currently under wraps, but the film will begin production this year.
Trachtenberg landed an Emmy nomination for his 2022 “Predator” prequel “Prey,” which follows a skilled warrior of the Comanche Nation named Naru (Amber Midthunder) as she sets out to protect her people from a mysterious danger threatening their camp.
Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman reviewed the film positively in the scope of the franchise, writing, “As an alien-attack thriller, ‘Prey’ is competent and well-paced, though with little in the way of surprise. But the journey of Naru lends it a semblance of emotional coherence that most of the ‘Predator’ films have lacked.”

Filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg and 20th Century Studios are going hunting again.
Trachtenberg, who earned an Emmy nomination for his 2022 Predator movie Prey, is returning to the sci-fi action horror franchise to make a new installment.
Titled Badlands, the new Predator feature is not a sequel to Prey, which was set in 1719 and centered on a young Comanche woman forced to fight for survival against the intergalactic hunters, but rather a brand new story. Plot details are being kept secret but this one is said to be set sometime in the future. Like Prey, however, it too will feature a female lead.
As with Prey, Trachtenberg wrote the story with Patrick Aison, with the latter penning the screenplay. The project has been working under invisibility for some time and is far enough along that a July start of production is being planned.
Badlands isn’t the only Predator project in the works.

Fox is developing a one-hour drama titled “Borrowed Time,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The series hails from writers and executive producers David Slack, Josh Campbell, and Matt Stuecken. McG is also an executive producer along with Mary Viola and Corey Marsh via Wonderland Sound and Vision. Wonderland is currently under a non-exclusive broadcast direct development deal with Fox.

David Robert Mitchell, director of It Follows and Under The Silver Lake, is reportedly starting on his next film in March. Flowervale Street will star Anne Hathaway and also dinosaurs.
In October, it was announced that director David Robert Mitchell is going to direct They Follow – a sequel to his breakthrough 2014 horror, It Follows.
At the time, reports suggested that the sequel would begin filming in 2024 – but it now sounds as though Mitchell is going to get started on an entirely separate project first.
Called Flowervale Street, it’s described as “a mystery thriller with dinosaurs set in the 80s” akin to A Quiet Place, and will star Anne Hathaway.

The release calendar for new movies over the next couple of weeks could best be described using an image of a tumbleweed lazily making its way across a desolate road. January has always been known as a dump month for Hollywood but this year is particularly bad as so many movies were pushed to later this year (or into 2025) due to the strikes last year. But it's not as though we have nothing coming down the pipeline. To that end, Bleecker Street is bringing an original sci-fi thriller in the form of "I.S.S." to a theater near you next weekend. Can it defy the odds and become a relatively rare original sci-fi hit?
As it stands, the film figures to have a muted debut. Box Office Pro currently has director Gabriela Cowperthwaite's latest taking in anywhere between $2 and $7 million on opening weekend. That's a pretty wide range but even...

“Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer are shutting down at least one fan theory about the upcoming ending to their blockbuster Netflix series. On the red carpet for the new “Stranger Things” play in London, the duo went on record to Metro saying the series will not end with a reveal that all the events in the Upside Down were just a dream.
One fan theory about the “Stranger Things” ending alleges all the events on screen during the show’s run were actually just the main characters playing an elaborate and very long game of Dungeons and Dragons, a favorite among the characters since the show’s first season.
“No,” Matt said bluntly when the fan theory was brought up.
“That would be the equivalent of, ‘That’s all a dream,'” Ross added. “No, I assure you that is not how we’re going to end the show.

Leave the World Behind, Sam Esmail’s latest movie has managed to stir the pot right after it was dropped on Netflix. The star-studded cast, the tension-filled build-up laced with ample social commentary, the dry humor, and most importantly, the very cheeky, ambiguous ending have made Leave the World Behind an instant genre classic. Not everyone is too happy about the movie getting this much praise, even after not really bringing anything strikingly original to the table, but the overall response has been pretty positive. If you’ve liked watching Leave the World Behind and are now in search of similar kinds of movies, then here’s a list that’s going to come in handy for you.
1. 10 Cloverfield Lane
It can actually be said that 10 Cloverfield Lane begins where Leave the World Behind ends. Yes, I am referring to the bunker here, which is where everyone wants to end up during an apocalypse.

“Stranger Things” is finally going back to Hawkins.
Production on the fifth and final season of the juggernaut Netflix series is currently set to begin in early January, according to multiple sources, though the start date is still subject to change. Filming was postponed for over seven months due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Creators and executive producers Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer were among the most high profile showrunners to announce they were suspending work after the writers strike began in May, posting on social media that “Writing does not stop when filming begins.” When the Duffer brothers spoke to Variety in July about series costar Noah Schnapp (who was part of the Power of Young Hollywood issue), they elaborated on that sentiment.
“Since it’s our scripts, you’re changing it all the time on the fly,” Matt Duffer said. “You’re either working it out with the actors,...

I.S.S. trailer ramps up the paranoia and tension in the isolation of space amid a global devastation
Space is a scary enough place. Imagine being in space and witnessing a devastation taking place on Earth. That’s the start of the premise of the new sci-fi thriller, I.S.S., from Bleecker Street. Bloody Disgusting has just unveiled the new trailer online. The titular initials stand for the International Space Station and is the prime setting for this film. The mood starts friendly enough and showcases the crew of both American and Russian missions living in the structure in perfect harmony. Unbeknownst to them, hell is about to break loose on the planet below. As both crew teams witness vast explosions taking place on the surface of Earth, confusion, sadness, desperation and anger overcome the crew, and as they each receive extreme orders from their governments, the peace within the station dissipates.
The synopsis reads,
“Tensions flare in the near future aboard the International Space Station as...

Recently Guillermo del Toro, the Oscar-winning director behind “The Shape of Water,” “Nightmare Alley” and “Pinocchio,” said that collecting physical media, in the midst of streamers unceremoniously deleting thousands of titles, is nothing short of a “moral imperative.” And we agree. Each month new home video releases – of both classic films and newer titles – come out. And each one is cause for celebration. With that in mind, we want to highlight the very best titles of every month.
With the insane games that the various streaming platforms are pulling in terms of removing content from their services — including projects that were made specifically for those platforms — an added emphasis has been placed on home video. And with good reason. The only way you can ensure that the movies you love will be around is by owning them on physical media. Thankfully the home video labels have been stepping up their game,...

2023 happens to be the 15th anniversary of the release of the creature feature Cloverfield (watch it Here), which was directed by Matt Reeves and spawned an anthology franchise, being followed by Dan Trachtenberg’s 10 Cloverfield Lane and Julius Onah’s The Cloverfield Paradox. Last year, Under the Shadow‘s Babak Anvari signed on to direct a new Cloverfield sequel from a screenplay by iBoy writer Joe Barton. The only information we’ve really learned about this new Cloverfield sequel is that, unlike the original film, it won’t be presented in the found footage style. But during an interview with CinemaBlend, 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg revealed that the film is setting aside the anthology approach to be a direct sequel to the original film. He also said that it’s going to be “very cool”.

The Cloverfield franchise may have been dormant for the past few years, but like the titular creature, it will rise again when you least expect it. That’s the fun of this sci-fi horror franchise, which first made its name as a viral hit in 2008 before expanding into a larger universe of stories involving aliens and alternate dimensions. You never know when a new installment might drop.
Such is the case with Cloverfield 4, which, as is tradition in this series, is shrouded in mystery. What we know for sure is that it’s being penned by British screenwriter Joe Barton and will be directed by Babak Anvari (Under the Shadow). Unlike the other sequels, 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox, which began life as completely unrelated standalone scripts before being rewritten and integrated into the Cloverfield franchise, Cloverfield 4 is being developed specifically for the franchise.

Aliens have visited Earth plenty of times on the big screen, whether it's the more gentle arrival of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," the massively deadly attack in "Independence Day," or the helpful, future-seeing travelers from "Arrival." Unfortunately, the aliens who show up in 20th Century Studios' new movie "No One Will Save You" are not the friendly kind, and "Booksmart" co-star Kaitlyn Dever is going to have her hands full dealing with them.
"No One Will Save You" is the latest movie from "Spontaneous" writer, producer, and director Brian Duffield. Described as a sci-fi psychological thriller told through the eyes of a lonely young woman with a painful backstory, the trailer doesn't use any dialogue to set up the story, and we're not given any significant details about our main character. But it perfectly invokes vibes of something like "Signs" or "10 Cloverfield Lane." Furthermore, the way the...

In the 15 years since Ahsoka Tano was first introduced in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, she has appeared in many other shows like Star Wars: Rebels, The Mandalorian, and most recently The Book of Boba Fett. Her wit, Force-wielding skills, and her desire to do good for the Galaxy even after leaving the Jedi Order have made her a fan-favorite character with fans eager to see her in a solo series.
Because Ahsoka has been involved in so many eras throughout Star Wars history from The Clone Wars to the New Republic, there are plenty of characters, both familiar and otherwise, that we can expect to see throughout the series. Ahsoka will feature the return of several Rebels and Clone Wars characters, as well as the introduction of new characters we haven’t yet seen in canon before.

Joe Keery is already having bittersweet feelings toward the “Stranger Things” series finale.
The actor told Wwd that while he’s ready for the hit Netflix show to wrap up, it “won’t be easy” to say goodbye to the series as a whole.
“It does feel like it’s time,” he said, adding, “it won’t be easy for it to end. I owe my whole career to being on that show, and all the opportunities that I had since are because of that show, so it’s very convoluted. There’s a sense of relief, there’s a sense of sadness.”
“Stranger Things” premiered in 2016 and is set to wrap up with the fifth and final season. Keery noted that he has had to emotionally prepare to walk away from the show while getting ready to film the final episodes.

Actor Mary Elizabeth Winstead worked alongside Roseanne alum John Goodman for the first time in 10 Cloverfield Lane. Like many, she grew up watching Goodman, and had a difficult time getting over being in a film with the veteran star.

10 Cloverfield Lane showed Goodman in a different light. Because of one of his most iconic roles in Roseanne, many were used to seeing Goodman as the caring husband he portrayed in the sitcom. His Cloverfield Lane character, however, couldn’t have been any more different. Representation in films and television isn’t only about race and ethnicity. It’s also about giving deserved respect to genres and recognizing the allies who do the work to ensure those stories are appropriately told. That’s what director Dan Trachtenberg achieves with the science-fiction horror flick “Prey,” while working hand-in-hand with Indigenous producer Jhane Myers. The Hulu film is among the nominated contenders for outstanding television movie, making Myers the first Indigenous woman ever nominated for producing at the Emmys.
“Those conversations were not hard,” Myers tells Variety about working with Trachtenberg. “He was open. Plus, with Amber [Midthunder] being Native and most of our cast, it was organic. That’s what makes this film remarkable. I can tell you this: until this day, we’ve never argued.”
Myers, a Comanche and Blackfeet American Indian, has long advocated for Native language, cultural advising and advancement in the entertainment industry.

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
There’s never been a Star Wars show quite as jam-packed with easter eggs and references as Ahsoka, which is not just pulling from The Mandalorian-era shows but also two animated series and even one of the most celebrated Expanded Universe novels of all time. It’s easily the most ambitious Star Wars series to date, especially as it will presumably also set up the film set to be directed by Ahsoka showrunner Dave Filoni.
Featuring characters from both The Clone Wars and Rebels, and essentially serving as a sequel to the latter cartoon, Ahsoka wastes no time with its callbacks, as elements from those animated series make the jump to live action.
Here are all the biggest easter eggs and points of interest in “Master and Apprentice” and “Toil and Trouble”:

The Predator is coming home.
“Prey,” the terrific spin-off/prequel that exists comfortably as part of the “Predator” franchise, will be released physically this fall in 4K Uhd, Blu-ray and DVD options. There will also be a 4K steelbook edition available exclusively at Best Buy. “Prey” will be available to purchase starting on Oct. 3.
The movie, set in 1719, follows a young Comanche woman named Naru (Amber Midthunder) as she goes up against a prototypical Predator (Dane Diliegro), the ultimate intergalactic hunter, who has come to earth to go up against the most fearsome warriors. “Prey” felt like a deliberate throwback to the original “Predator” film, with outstanding direction from Dan Trachtenberg (“10 Cloverfield Lane”) and an amazing lead performance in Midthunder.
When the movie came out on Hulu, it was an immediate hit with both fans and critics — it has a whopping 94% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. When announcing the...

Welcome to It’s a Hit! In this series, IndieWire speaks to creators and showrunners behind a few of our favorite television programs about the moment they realized their show was breaking big.
All it took was an email to get 20th Century Studios interested in greenlighting Dan Trachtenberg’s “Prey,” the film that (per Hulu) became the streamer’s biggest premiere ever and is currently nominated for six Emmys, including Outstanding Television Movie.
“I was thinking a lot about a few things at once,” Trachtenberg said to IndieWire over Zoom, as he prepared to give a step-by-step breakdown of how the “Prey” pitch came together. “On the one hand, I was thinking about period and sci-fi — wanting to make a movie that combined those two ingredients that we don’t often see combined — and survival stories, and making a movie that could primarily be told through action with little to no dialogue.

Lucasfilm Animation, like so many fledgling studios, took a moment to find its footing. Founded in 2003, the company released its first feature film, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," in 2008 to much scorn. Critics were quick to recognize the film was little more than three TV episodes hastily strung together, and its janky computer animation stood out like a sore thumb compared to the far more expressive and fluid visuals in films like "Kung Fun Panda" and "Wall-e" from that same year. "Clone Wars" also saw the debut of Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's young, rambunctious Padawan, and a character who was immediately the target of much-undeserved derision (and more than a little sexism).
My, my, how the turn tables. Jump ahead to 15 years later and Lucasfilm Animation is now responsible for some of the best "Star Wars" storytelling of all time, including the animated "Clone Wars" series and "Star Wars Rebels.

It’s pretty common for limited series to be Emmy-nominated for both writing and directing, as demonstrated by current dual contenders “Beef” and “Fleishman Is in Trouble,” plus “The White Lotus” and the four 2022 shows it knocked out twice. The same cannot be said, however, for TV movies, which compete directly against non-continuing series in the composite Best Movie/Limited Writing and Directing categories. Prior to this year, no telefilm had achieved this nomination combo since 2014, but Hulu’s “Prey” just closed the gap, signaling a return to form for the genre.
“Prey,” which premiered in August 2022, is also gunning for the Best TV Movie Emmy and picked up bids for its sound editing, picture editing and music composition. Set in 18th century North America and featuring a primarily Indigenous cast, it serves as a prequel to the 1987 theatrical horror film “Predator,” which is now the nexus of a seven-part franchise.
