The Atlantic has released the text messages that include attack plans on Houthi rebels in Yemen, messages that its editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg received after being inadvertently added to a group text chain on Signal that included many of the highest-ranking officials in the Trump administration.
The story stunned the political and media establishment, sparking jealousy from other journalists, and shock from national security experts that people like the National Security Adviser and Secretary of Defense would play so loose with operational security.
Top officials — including President Trump — have said that no classified information was shared in the chats, though The Atlantic says that it opted to withhold the name of CIA director John Ratcliffe’s chief of staff at the agency’s request. The officials also said that no war plans were shared in the group chat.

The Atlantic published the U.S. attack plans that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth shared on the Signal messaging app, in a group chat that included other top Trump administration officials and, by mistake, the media outlet’s editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg.
In his initial story about being added to the text chain, Goldberg withheld Hegseth’s texts about the attack plans, describing them in generalities rather than specifics out of concern that publication could jeopardize the lives of U.S. military personnel. The top administration officials were texting about planned strikes on Houthis rebels in Yemen.
But in their response to the bombshell story, Trump administration officials have insisted that the information shared on Signal was not classified, while they also tried to discredit Goldberg, attacking his past pieces for The Atlantic. Ben Affleck may not be part of the buzzy ensemble cast for Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” but that doesn’t mean the writer/director/actor won’t be on set.
Affleck told GQ that he will probably visit his Artists Equity cofounder Matt Damon during “The Odyssey” shoot; Damon is playing the lead role of Odysseus. Damon and Nolan previously collaborated on “Oppenheimer.”
“I may go visit Matt [Damon] on the set [of ‘The Odyssey’] just to watch Nolan direct,” Affleck said of learning from the auteur. “I’m not even kidding at all.” He added that Nolan “is one of the great filmmaking architects to ever live.”
“The Odyssey” is Nolan’s reimagining of the iconic Greek epic about hero Odysseus who spends a decade trying to return home after fighting in the Trojan War. The film was announced in December 2024 as Nolan’s 13th feature. The ensemble cast includes...

Though The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan's next big-budget blockbuster, it appears the Oscar-winning director is running his upcoming adaptation like it's on a much smaller scale. One member of Nolan's star-studded cast claims the British helmer's production operates "like an indie film."
Speaking with MSNBC's Morning Joe (via Collider), Leguizamo opened up about principal photography for The Odyssey, which began last month in Morocco. Though the film is one of Nolan's priciest, Leguizamo spoke of the director's more humble approach to the production. “Dude, you know the thing is, okay, he’s got a crazy budget. It’s not small, but he runs [it] like an indie film because he’s not doing it by committee, he’s not doing it by what the studio says. He’s like an indie filmmaker but with crazy money,” he said.

Earlier this year, the Fates rapidly began to weave the threads that would bring us yet another project from the mind of Oscar-winning filmmaker and director, Christopher Nolan, with the retelling of Homer's tale of the mighty Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. Nolan's upcoming mythic action epic, The Odyssey, has since greatly expanded its cast with a plethora of stars, including John Wick's John Leguizamo joining the eagerly anticipated film. It is as large an undertaking as any Nolan has ever ventured into in his illustrious career. With huge expectations, some of Hollywood's brightest stars on the call sheet, and most definitely an enormous budget. Leguizamo reveals that Nolan still manages to make the entire production feel like an independent film.
“Dude, you know the thing is, okay, he’s got a crazy budget," Leguizamo said in a recent interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film has by no means, a small premise. An adaptation of the classic “The Odyssey,” the film includes a large cast of some of the biggest Hollywood stars. But cast member John Leguizamo says Nolan still manages to make the production feel like an independent film.

Mika Brzezinski had to grit her teeth on Thursday’s (March 20) episode of Morning Joe as her husband and co-host Joe Scarborough went on a fiery, table-slamming rant about Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Scarborough’s impassioned speech came during a discussion of President Trump’s proposal to shut down the Department of Education and continued federal cuts through Musk’s newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (Doge). “The people that are running it, they’re billionaires, and they’re disconnected,” said Scarborough, himself a former congressman. “I mean, Elon Musk is so radically disconnected. Ask Elon Musk… so how does this work when you let Florida or Utah or Ohio run education?” He continued, “If you had asked [former Governor of Florida] Jeb Bush, how does it work? Jeb would say: ‘Well, here’s what we’re doing in Florida.’ If you ask [former Governor of Massachusetts] Mitt [Romney], how would you use this money? or [former Governor] George ...

Next month MSNBC will be shaking up a big portion of its lineup.
As part of sweeping changes from president Rebecca Kutler, shows in dayside and primetime will be impacted, with notable names moving to new time periods. Among the changes is taking The Weekend, the panel show led by Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders-Townsend and Michael Steele and moving it to 7 p.m. on weekdays.
The show had quickly found an eager audience on weekend mornings, and Kutler is banking that a weekday evening audience will latch onto the format as well. With those three hosts exiting, MSNBC is also betting that it can bring in new (albeit familiar) voices to the weekend program, which will be expanding from two to three hours every Saturday and Sunday.

MSNBC has hired The Washington Post’s Jackie Alemany as a Washington correspondent and co-host of The Weekend.
Alemany, who made the announcement this morning on Morning Joe, will be joining Jonathan Capehart and Eugene Daniels on the weekend show.
The hiring of Alemany is the latest as MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler looks to build up a news division in preparation for a spinoff from parent Comcast later this year.
Alemany will begin her hosting duties on The Weekend in the coming months, and will start as correspondent this month. She is currently part of the Post’s White House team, and she previously covered congressional investigations. She also had a central role in the Post’s coverage of the January 6th attack on the Capitol. That coverage won a Pulitzer Prize. She previously worked as a White House reporter for CBS News.

Revisiting Shia Labeaouf’s Feud With Alec Baldwin During Orphans Era (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)
Shia Labeouf and Alec Baldwin were set to share the stage in the 2013 Broadway production of Orphans, but things went south before opening night. Their tension reached a breaking point, leading to Labeouf’s abrupt departure from the show. According to Baldwin, it all started with a clash in rehearsal styles that escalated quickly.
Baldwin claimed that Labeouf had already memorized his lines before rehearsals began, while he preferred a slower approach. Frustrated by the pacing, the Transformers star reportedly snapped at Baldwin in front of the cast. Speaking to New York magazine, in the publication’s debut biweekly issue, Baldwin said (via Broadway Buzz): “One day he attacked me in front of everyone. MSNBC has officially found its new Senior Washington Correspondent in Eugene Daniels, a Politico alum who has appeared on the network multiple times. Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough welcomed the latest addition on “Morning Joe” on Monday.

Daniels isn’t joking about being on TV often. In the past year alone, he appeared on MSNBC more than 100 times and has guest-hosted programs for the network, including “The Weekend.” He first joined the channel in 2021 and previously worked as a Senior Political Analyst.

MSNBC is on the rebound after its post-election ratings slump, with shows such as Morning Joe up double-digits over the month. It’s no secret that MSNBC took a hit following Donald Trump‘s election victory in November, with ratings down 47% pre-inauguration. Morning Joe, specifically, dropped viewers following hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski‘s meeting with Trump. However, according to an NBC press release, citing Nielsen ratings, the first five weeks of Trump’s presidency saw Morning Joe grow its audience by 17% compared to pre-inauguration viewership. In addition, the show nearly doubled CNN’s morning audience. Ali Vitali‘s Way Too Early also improved its viewership by 18% month over month, while MSNBC’s weekend programming also experienced double-digit viewership growth compared to January, by 24% among total viewers and by 38% in the demo. The Weekend and Inside with Jen Psaki have both posted strong weekend numbers, topping CNN every month they’ve been on air.

MSNBC unveiled its new lineup on Monday, with former Biden Press Secretary Jen Psaki seeing her show expand to several nights during the week and outgoing anchor Joy Reid being replaced by a new program.
The changes are being spearheaded by recently-appointed MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler, who is betting on names that are well-liked in Democratic and left-leaning circles to help the cable channel continue its rebound from a post-election viewer exodus.
The big change is that Psaki’s show, “Inside with Jen Psaki,” will now air Tuesday-Friday at 9 p.m. Et. Veteran host Rachel Maddow will return following President Trump’s first 100 days in office to host the 9 p.m. hour on Mondays.
Psaki is replacing Alex Wagner, who has anchored Tuesday-Friday at 9 p.m. since 2022; Wagner will be staying with MSNBC as a senior political analyst.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Chevy Chase would be a part of this Sunday’s SNL 50: The Anniversary Special, presumably because he’s too old to get into any behind-the-scenes fistfights at this point in his life. And now Chase’s participation in the event also includes promoting it in sit-down interviews on NBC.
Chase recently spoke with Willie Geist on Morning Joe, and he took the opportunity to single out his favorite SNL cast member (Dana Carvey) other than himself, naturally. He also slammed Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night movie yet again, arguing that the chaotic film “wasn’t anything like” the real-life experience. “Lorne and I knew exactly what we were going to do. Trump wrote, “Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post is Incompetent! So sad to see him trying to justify the waste, fraud, and corruption at Usaid with his pathetic Radical Left Spin. He should be fired immediately!!!”
Robinson has been critical of Trump’s first weeks in office, writing in a recent column that Republicans have displayed “cowardice” as the president “vandalizes the federal government and trashes our vital international alliances.”

MSNBC is bouncing back after a brief post-election slump late last year, as the network has seen a ratings boost over the past month since President Donald Trump officially took office. According to Nielsen ratings, as reported by The Daily Beast, MSNBC has averaged 1.37 million people in its primetime lineup since Trump’s inauguration on January 20. This is an 86 percent increase from the network’s post-election and pre-inauguration numbers. The network has also posted its best total-day ratings in a while, averaging 711,000 viewers, a 43 percent increase over the late 2024 period. This comes after news networks across the board took a fall after Trump’s election victory in November, with MSNBC down 47% and CNN down 33% for the month. Even Fox News saw a 9% dip in the week beginning November 20. Meanwhile, in prime time, MSNBC lost 52% of its viewers, while CNN dropped 39%. The news fatigue was exacerbated after Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough...

Willie Geist may have hosted Sunday Today since 2016, but a first for the show has him feeling “shocked” and “overwhelmed.”
He often fills in on Today when one of the show’s big names, like Craig Melvin or Dylan Dreyer, is out.
Willie is also a regular commentator on the MSNBC show Morning Joe and often shows up on Saturday Today next to Laura Jarrett.
But he seems most at home on the Sunday Today set, where he interviewed everyone from Hillary Clinton to Chip and Joanna Gaines.
It is at Sunday Today that, in a first for the veteran interviewer, he commented on the speed at which tickets for a Live show sold out.
Willie has hosted Sunday Today for years but has never performed in front of a live audience until now. It is astounding to learn how many people love him and the show.

Joe Scarborough is ready for even more changes to come into play at MSNBC. Following Rashida Jones’ exit from the network earlier this month, Scarborough said he sees things heading in a different direction. For one, he’s ready to start expanding the scope of his Morning Joe interviews to cultural icons, rather than just political figures. “We had done a lot of that in the past,” he pointed out to The Hollywood Reporter. “In the pre-[Donald] Trump days, I’d say pre-2015, it would be very normal for us to have Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Bradley Cooper, Pete Townsend, all of these pop culture figures on the show. And then when Donald Trump was running and got elected, he consumed most of the bandwidth of not only the show but also news in general.” Scarborough said he’s been trying to return to the show’s “original concept” of mixing politics,...

Is America eager for a bit of political detox? Maybe, maybe not, but MSNBC’s Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough thinks there could be interest in some escapism. The veteran morning host is ramping up his longform interviews with cultural figures like musicians, actors and directors, betting that there’s an eager audience. And he’s hoping that they also click on YouTube, where Morning Joe garnered some 338 million views last year, up nearly 30 percent from the year prior.
Of course, MSNBC is itself going through major changes. The company got new leadership following the exit of president Rashida Jones and elevation of Rebecca Kutler, and the cable channel will be spun out from Comcast into a new venture (“SpinCo,” for now) later this year. And Scarborough himself took some flak from viewers after he and Mike Brzezinski disclosed that they met with President Trump at Mar-a-Lago after the election,...

As rumors continue to circulate regarding Jim Acosta‘s potential exit from CNN, fans have taken to social media to suggest he move to MSNBC and take over the Morning Joe slot. The news comes after CNN announced it was changing up its schedule, which included replacing Acosta’s morning show with veteran anchor Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown for a two-hour edition of The Situation Room. Acosta was reportedly offered the midnight “graveyard” shift, which sources claimed he was shocked by. Acosta is now nowhere to be seen in CNN’s upcoming schedule, and reports from Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter and Fox News claim the long-time anchor is set to depart the network. The veteran news reporter joined CNN in 2007, becoming the network’s chief White House correspondent in 2018. Throughout his time at CNN, Acosta was a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, with whom he has clashed...

MSNBC’s Morning Joe spent a fair amount of time on Tuesday’s show discussing Donald Trump’s day-one actions, including his pardoning of the Jan. 6 rioters.
And the exchange, between married co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough and guest Donny Deutsch, grew tense.
Way Too Early host Ali Vitali said of the president’s pardoning of the more than 1,500 people charged with crimes in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, “The fact that that can just be done with the stroke of a pen, I think that it all served to underscore for Republicans on the hill, for Democrats on the hill, for everyone in Washington and beyond, support him or not, but this is how it is now.”
Scarborough responded that Democrats were “quietly reminding themselves” that Trump only beat Vice President Kamala Harris by 1.5 percent in the popular vote in the 2024 election and that “Republicans have a...

Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski looked furious on Tuesday’s (January 21) episode of the daily news program as she clashed with guest Donny Deutsch over President Donald Trump‘s January 6 pardons. The topic arose after MSNBC’s Way Too Early host Ali Vitali spoke on the show about Trump’s controversial first act as president. Following Monday’s (January 20) inauguration ceremony, Trump held a televised Oval Office event where he pardoned approximately 1,500 Capitol riot defendants and prisoners and commuted the sentences of eight more. As reported by Mediaite, co-host Joe Scarborough chimed in to remind everyone that the presidential election was close, “1.5 percent,” and that the Republicans only have a “one vote majority in the House.” That is when Deutsch spoke up, saying, “But I just want to add one thing to that, we can say that to ourselves, [but Trump] has co-opted America’s heartbeat.” Brzezinski took issue with Deutsch’s statement,...

Ben Stiller revealed that one of the biggest shows on the planet was a big inspiration for “Severance” – NBC’s “The Office.”
While talking with “Morning Joe” for the second season premiere of the Apple TV+ series, Stiller said the office place sitcom was a “huge influence” on “Severance” because of how it examined the inner workings of big companies.
“I have to also say one of the shows for me that was a huge influence on ‘Severance’ is ‘The Office,'” Stiller said. “And that’s another show that’s incredibly simple – brilliant, and one set that they really are always in. Corporate culture right now, these huge corporations, you know, this kind of faceless, nameless sort of sometimes ideology of the company, these big companies, it’s weird. So, you know, I think people relate to that.”
“The Office” followed employees across many departments of a regional branch of paper company Dunder-Mifflin.

A week after clashing with regular Morning Joe panelist Michael Steele, Joe Scarborough again got into a heated debate with a guest on Wednesday’s (January 15) episode, leading to co-host Mika Brzezinski interrupting him and throwing to a commercial break. This most recent back-and-forth involved Financial Times columnist and Morning Joe regular Ed Luce, whom Scarborough described as “a very good friend.” The pair debated President Joe Biden‘s final days in office and his cognitive capabilities, with Scarborough arguing that Biden still seemed up for the role when he interviewed him from the White House. “Did he occasionally jumble a few words or a few names? Yes,” Scarborough said, per RawStory.com. “But he corrected those as well. So after two, two and a half, three hours of it with him in the White House, going all over the White House, I did not see that.” Luce responded that...

Rashida Jones, a respected news operator who has led MSNBC for four years, will leave the NBCUniversal cable outlet to pursue other opportunities, she informed executives and staffers Tuesday.
She will be replaced on an interim basis by Rebecca Kutler, a veteran news executive with a long track record of managing talent and devising innovative programming concepts. She takes the lead role at MSNBC as it faces not only the challenges of covering the Trump administration for its demoralized liberal audience, but also the prospect of being spun off into a new publicly traded company by corporate parent Comcast.
The executive swap takes place as MSNBC is grappling with a significant downturn in its ratings. Between the election and the end of 2024, MSNBC’s primetime audience between the ages of 25 and 54 — the demographic most prized by advertisers in news programming — fell 65%, according to data from Nielsen. Don Lemon has chimed in on the Morning Joe debate regarding whether people should “be civil” towards President-elect Donald Trump and his incoming administration. Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are getting fresh backlash over their controversial meeting with President-elect Donald Trump in November, this time directly from one of their own regular guests. On Friday’s (January 10) episode of the MSNBC news program, former chairman of the Republic National Committee, Michael Steele, challenged the hosts on their argument that people should “be civil” to Trump as he prepares to return to the White House later this month. Steele, who serves as a co-host on MSNBC’s The Weekend, tried to make his point only to be talked over by Scarborough, who clearly took issue with what his co-worker had to say. “Joe, you had your moment; let me just finish my point,” Steele said. “I’m telling you something you seem to forget, so let me make my point. You may not like it, but I’m going to make it.

Donald Trump lashed out this weekend at those referring to Elon Musk as “President Musk,” but the hosts of “Morning Joe” don’t think Trump is quite ready to fully dump the billionaire just yet. According to the MSNBC hosts, it’ll probably require a bigger hit to Trump’s ego.
During a rally on Sunday, Trump said “Elon’s done an amazing job, but no, he’s not going to be president. That, I can tell you. And I’m safe, you know why? He can’t be, he wasn’t born in this country.” And using that logic particularly amused host Jonathan Lemire.

After his on-air rant earlier this month, Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough seems to be back to criticizing Donald Trump and the Republican party over recent cabinet picks. Certainly, it had fans wondering if the show has done something of a u-turn after seemingly trying to “appease” Trump after his election win. On Tuesday’s (December 17) Morning Joe, Scarborough took aim at Trump’s controversial cabinet picks and how his pressure tactics are “backfiring.” His comments come after Trump gave a press conference on Monday (December 16), where he seemed to soften his stance on pressuring senators to push through his cabinet picks. Trump said he would call for primary challenges to Republican senators who voted against his nominees for “stupid reasons” but would show restraint on those voting for “reasonable” reasons. “Boy, yesterday we were talking about the back-and-forth, a lot of the Republican senators saying, ‘Hey, you know what?...

The viewing figures for Morning Joe and other MSNBC shows don’t appear to be getting any better following the fallout of Donald Trump‘s presidential election victory in November. In a report from rival network Fox News, based on figures from Nielsen Media Research, Morning Joe is down 35% among total viewers, averaging 720,000, and down 37% in the key 25-54 demographic. However, Fox News does not specify which figures it is comparing these numbers to. As previously reported, the morning show hosted by Joe Scarborough and Mike Brzezinski saw a dip in ratings following their meeting with Trump. The Monday, November 20 episode, where the hosts discussed their meeting with the president-elect, brought in 839,000 total viewers and 113,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo, while the Tuesday, November 21 episode dropped to 680,000 total viewers and 76,000 in the key demo.
