This is an interesting way to tell a story about which I have already seen several short films. The backdrop is the war in Sarejevo and instead of simply showing the day to day life of the survivors, the film is seen from two points of view--one from a lady living there in this hellish city and the other from the standpoint of a loved one who is from this city but going to school in Chicago. In the US, the man is helpless--cut off from the lady and unable to know if she is still even alive. In Sarejevo, she is heard dictating a letter that may or may not arrive in the future. Nothing in particular is resolved in the film--just a glimpse into their world.
This film is very well made and interesting, though it's also a topic most people could probably care little about today, just as when the city was imploding well over a decade ago.
By the way, the Johnny Depp bit was an interesting way to break up the bleak mood of the piece--an interesting counter-point to all the sadness.
