Basically, this is a modern day B movie, it seems like a movie is have looked at in the early 1990's at a video store. I'd put it in the almost so bad it's good category, it has moments where it is genuinely b pretty good, and then it has several bad film handles that at times are very entertaining. I liked the idea behind it, it is a unique concept and a great one at that. B movies are well known for having great concepts with over the top and campy execution. The acting from the lead actress is not very good, her range of emotion is limited, so a little wooden. Done of the costuming, ie the phone costumes, are hokey. The initial incident where our protagonist shows up to investigate, likely wouldn't have happened. If you call 911 and say my husband turned to diamonds, they're gonna say you are making a prank call and hang up. That's really it. After a few instances, sure there would be a pattern, so the script is not the most well-written. Again, think B movie. There are several silly plot elements, and move of the acting is great, it's mediocre to decent. Had the acting been more over the top, it might have elevated the goofy script.
Shockingly, the cinematography is actually pretty good. The are no sound issues, so it's technically not a bad movie. I really wish more was done with this concept, though it was still intriguing and it helps my interest despite some wooden acting and some Ed Wood level mistakes. A character at one point, this is not a spoiler, proclaims the lights to have gone out, and goes down stairs to the breaker box, when he goes downstairs, the lights in the stairwell are on. That was pretty funny. There is is a side plot to the main story and it's actually not bad. When they first introduced it I assumed it was because it was just "character development", but it ended up becoming more than that. I was pleasantly surprised.
Overall, this is a fun diversion, it's not necessarily good, it has tons of flaws, but I never got bored and it kept me guessing. If you enjoy B movies, and you like bad movies, theirs quite a bit to enjoy here. Would be cool if someone took this concept and made a legit good movie though.
