In the early days of his rap career, The Notorious B.I.G. had an image to maintain as a smooth-talking ladies’ man from Brooklyn, bolstered by songs such as the hit single “Big Poppa.” To support his 1994 debut album Ready to Die, Biggie released the track “One More Chance” as a single and filmed an accompanying music video. The song and the video were instrumental in solidifying his spot as the hottest new rapper in the game.

Tentatively titled Notorious B.I.G.: One More Chance, the film is being made in collaboration with Biggie’s estate and his mother, Voletta Wallace, and it will reportedly “feature Biggie’s music and focus on the impact [of] his work around the world.”

This Biggie Smalls documentary is being produced by Submarine Entertainment, which was also behind Searching For Sugarman and 20 Feet From Stardom.

You wouldn't know it from the film's lack of marketing, but a new movie called Black or White debuted in theaters today. Despite the presence of stars Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer, I've never seen a trailer or TV spot for the movie, which BoxOfficeMojo says is in over 1,000 theaters right now. (Apparently the film played at last year's Toronto International Film Festival and didn't receive very favorable reviews.) I don't ever plan on watching this film, but that doesn't mean that I can't come up with a tangentially-related article about it. Black or White got me thinking: what other movies share a title with a Michael Jackson song?
As far as ground rules go, there's really only one major one: the title of the movie and the song have to match exactly - if a word is possessive, I'm not making an exception. Exact matches or Gtfo. I'll embed...

Spoiler Alert: Don’t keep reading unless you want to know who was eliminated from Top Chef last night.
Restaurant Wars is one of Top Chef’s signature challenges. It’s been known to topple great chef-testants, but this year’s casualty was especially shocking. No one expected Kristen Kish, the young sous chef from Michigan, to pack her knives and go so early. As the leader of the losing restaurant theme Atelier Kwan, she was the most vulnerable, but you’d think her past wins and status as front-runner to win the whole thing would put her through over Josie Smith-Malave,...

We’re delighted to be able to announce the debut of our first single in three years. Entitled “Octopus“, we hope you will become entangled in its myriad tentacles – look out for Russell staking his claim for inclusion in the guitar solo pantheon. It is getting its first play on Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 this evening. There is also be a video accompanying the single which you can now.”
The return of Bloc Party has been bubbling and brewing for some time now, to boiling point over the last few months. After the release of the none-too-well received Intimacy back in 2008, and then the one off single One More Chance in 2009, Bloc Party were no longer bound by a record contract. This kick started an indefinite hiatus for the band, with Kele pursuing his solo career. Further channelling the electronica and dance influences that had become far more prevalent in Bloc Party.

Hip-hop icon was fatally gunned down 15 years ago today at age 24.
By Rob Markman
Notorious B.I.G.

March 9, 1997: There was absolutely nothing that could have prepared hip-hop fans for the tragic event that took place on that grim day. Then again, there was not much warning when the Notorious B.I.G. entered the hip-hop world either. Sure, there were key cameos on records with Mary J. Blige and reggae star Super Cat, but when all was said and done and B.I.G. was gunned down 15 years ago today, it became clear that rap had lost one of the great ones — perhaps the greatest one of all time.
In the beginning, Biggie Smalls wasn't even the most prominent star on his label. That position was occupied by rapper Craig Mack, whose 1994 hit single "Flava in Ya Ear" initially set the mark of Sean "Diddy" Combs' newly minted Bad Boy Records.

The premiere of Madonna's video for "Give Me All Your Luvin,'" the first single off her new album M.D.N.A., is today, children. It's bound to be a little over-the-top and nutty, like the deranged song itself, and I assume it's not going to live up to the greatest stuff in Madonna's catalog. Then I remember: What does live up to the best stuff in Madonna's catalog? Turns out, not much. Madonna's repertoire is a varied and thundering collection of self-empowering pop ditties, soulful ballads, and kooky little anomalies. And they're mostly all irreplaceable. In the tradition of Rolling Stone, who listed their 100 Greatest Beatles Songs a couple years ago, let's reinspect Madonna's complete history and name her definitive 100 jams. Ready? Start disagreeing Now.

Man visits alien planet and leads locals to victory in a war that threatens their existence. Sound familiar? Watch the trailer for Disney's John Carter and you decide
There's a lot of anticipation ahead of next year's John Carter. This is partly because John Carter effectively marks Pixar's first attempt at a live-action movie, and partly because it has such a vague title that it could legitimately be about anything. A teaser trailer released in July, for instance, suggested that John Carter would be an ungodly hybrid of Remains of the Day, Cowboys and Aliens and The Dark Crystal.
But that was just a teaser, possibly released at a time before many of the film's effects had been fully completed. Now, though, a full trailer has been released. So what could John Carter be about? Is it, as the teaser suggested, a period piece? Is it, as some have claimed,...

New York — Back in the late '90s, Versace was to the Bad Boy camp what Supreme is to Odd Future — nothing less than a uniform. Of course, whereas Tyler and crew can set up shop at the Los Angeles outpost, the ultra high-end Italian label hadn't exactly been marketing to new-money rappers from the 'hood. But that didn't ruin budding mogul Sean Combs' (then Puff Daddy) appetite for the couture line. I wrote a lot of chapters to this.” So that’s how she got the inspiration for the Tookie character in her book Modelland. Cause the whole time I was reading that I was like, “This Tookie character in this book Modelland sounds awwfuulllyyy familiar….” You can check out the full playlist here. HollywoodNews.com: After wrapping her new film “Spin”, actress Nicole Crowther finally feels comfortable enough to respond to the firestorm that erupted from an innocent tweet that revealed the ending of the popular Prom episode of Fox’s hit show ‘Glee’.
‘Glee’ writer, producer and creator Brad Falchuk took to the offensive by Tweeting “@nicolecrowther Hope you’re qualified to do something besides work in entertainment”. [Editor's Note: photo of tweet is available upon request]
Crowther says she never understood why this situation demanded this amount of attention. “I wasn’t even working on the show at the time. It would be easy to dismiss the fact that Notorious B.I.G. released an album called Life After Death on this day in 1997 (only a few weeks after his own murder) as just a sick coincidence, but in reality it was party of a larger theme for the man born Christopher Wallace. For all of his raps about living large, Biggie was obsessed with death. After all, this is a man who titled his debut album Ready to Die and often rapped about his own funeral. He was constantly aware of his own mortality, and it permeated every inch of his musical persona.
Still, the whole idea of Life After Death hitting store shelves only 16 days after Biggie passed away is more than a little bit haunting. The album cover depicted the Mc standing next to an old style hearse, draped in spooky shadows with a ghostly look on his face.

Gary Clark, Jr. is a soul man. He's a blues man. He's a rock and roll man. Gary Clark Jr. is the real deal. When I happened upon his set, waiting to see the much-hyped Theophilus London at the Habana Bar Backyard, Clark Jr. was mid-wild jam with an electric three piece backing band that fleshed out the astonishing guitar skills of the 27 year-old Austin native. Song after song, the guitar aficionado delivered finger-numbing guitar solos as the band built walls of sound around him, with Clark Jr. intermittently slowing things down to sing the blues. The highlight of the set was a Marvin-style love ballad, Clark Jr. crooning in his sugar soul voice, "Please come home, it's been too long." When applied with true yearning and velvety finesse, his simplistic lyrics strike with a bold, honest weight. This is what Fat Possum was thinking about when they signed The Black Keys - dirty,...

Lindsay Lohan -- One More Chance
Third time will be a charm for Lindsay Lohan's deposition ... or else.
TMZ was in court this Am when lawyers for the people suing Lindsay -- over a wild ride on Pacific Coast Highway back in 2007 -- asked a judge to order her to show up for her deposition. The attorneys also asked for sanctions against Lindsay, for not showing up twice for her depo.
But there were technical problems with the legal docs that were filed, and the lawyers -- including Lindsay's lawyer, Ed McPherson -- agreed that Lohan will really really appear on May 4 for her deposition.
But this time the judge made it clear ... he'll throw the book at her if she doesn't appear.

On Tuesday night, he threw a special party in B.I.G.'s hometown, and rounded up his troops, Rick Ross, Fabolous, Red Café and Busta Rhymes, and headed out to the nightspot The Lab.

The star-studded music video from Jamie Foxx has been released via Bet on Wednesday, February 25. This would be the video of "Blame It" that features T-Pain and is lifted from his third studio album "Intuition" (2008). The video itself is another project by Hype Williams.
Foxx mainly lined up awards winners from his movie realm, such as Ron Howard, Samuel L. Jackson, Forest Whitaker and Jake Gyllenhaal. Not stopping there, cameos are also made by Quincy Jones, Cedric the Entertainer, Morris Chesnut, Clifton Powell, Alex Thomas, Tatyana Ali, Bill Bellamy, Clarence Avant, Tommy Davidson and more.
The idea of having so many stars in one music video roots from his inspiration of Notorious B.I.G. "We wanted to sort of relive the Biggie (experience)," Foxx said to MTV. The Notorious soundtrack. There’s the sneaking suspicion that Notorious is going to end up being Ray with rap, but what’s certain is that it comes custom built with a soundtrack chronicling the life’s work of one of the most omnipresent and important rappers of all time.
How important is Biggie? Well, I’m a white middle class Englishman, and I like him. And that’s something. When a rapper gets played in a club in the Bronx at 2am, it’s one thing. When kids talk about him in schools in small towns in Sussex in between their Geography and French classes, it’s another thing entirely. (Americans who have no knowledge of Sussex – picture the exact opposite of the Bronx)
