Daredevil: Born Again Star Charlie Cox Reveals When He First Heard From Kevin Feige About MCU Return
With such a clear divide between Marvel Studios and Marvel Television, most fans never expected Netflix's street-level characters to appear in the MCU.
That changing looked a little more likely when Disney shuttered Marvel Television, but even then it was hard to imagine Kevin Feige and company being willing to pick up where several seasons of programming on Netflix left The Defenders.
However, in 2021, Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin returned in Hawkeye and, mere weeks later, we saw Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home Home.
The former's newfound strength suggested Marvel Studios was making some changes to the characters, and while the Netflix shows have since been made "canon" to Earth-616, we still don't expect future projects like Daredevil: Born Again to adhere too closely to what's come before.
Talking to People, Cox revealed when he first heard from Feige about suiting up again.

As we progress through 2024, the situation at the box office hasn’t shown much improvement. While’ Inside Out 2′ made a huge impact, effectively saving the summer box office, and Deadpool & Wolverine recently crossed the $1 billion mark, these are the only two films to have reached that milestone this year. However, the problem seems to run much deeper, particularly when it comes to superhero movies.
In the post-covid era, superhero films have been struggling significantly at the box office, performing anywhere from poorly to disastrously. This trend suggests that the issue may be more profound than initially thought.
Despite some well-received releases, both Marvel and DC superhero movies are having a hard time achieving box office success, while films outside this genre have been thriving. So, what could be causing this downturn?

Charlie Cox is without question the definitive version of Daredevil. Ben Affleck may have played the character in the underrated 2003 movie, but Cox's performance in the 2015 Netflix series really presented The Man Without Fear as a main event level player in the Marvel live-action field. So when the character was eventually introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there was no question about who should play him.
Years after the Netflix show's premature cancellation, Cox joined the MCU in multiple cameo appearances; the most significant being a guest spot in an episode of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. But it's all building towards a more long-term return, as the actor will reprise the role full-time in Disney Plus series Daredevil: Born Again.

Next year, both Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock) and Vincent D'Onofrio (Wilson Fisk) will return in Daredevil: Born Again, a rebooted take on Netflix's Daredevil show ensconsed firmly within the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This comes after both Daredevil and Kingpin have made numerous cameo appearances in the franchise, following the cancellation of the original Daredevil show in 2018.
Charlie Cox began his journey as Matt Murdock back in 2015. Originally a Netflix series, Daredevil quickly became one of the jewels of superhero television. It spawned an entire franchise, known as the 'Defenders Saga', introducing characters like Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, and Iron Fist. In 2022, the Defenders Saga switched from Netflix to Disney+'s streaming library. And around the same time, Charlie Cox was making MCU appearances, most notably in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Speaking to People, Cox explained the timeline of how Daredevil made its way to the MCU.

We’re deep into 2024 territory as of the time of writing, but the situation at the 2024 box office is not really improving. We knew that Inside Out 2 did an amazing job and that it basically saved the box office this summer, and Deadpool & Wolverine continued on that same high note, passing the $1 billion mark recently. These are the only two movies that have passed that landmark so far this year, but the problem seems to be much deeper, at least when superhero movies are concerned.
Namely, as it turns out, in the post-covid era, superhero movies have been doing horribly – from just bad to abysmally bad – at the box office, and it seems that the issue might be deeper than everyone thought.

Daredevil's Charlie Cox Thought MCU Series Renewal Was 'Definitely Over' - Main Image
Ever since Netflix's Daredevil got canned, Charlie Cox lost hope of ever getting an MCU renewal of his series. That is until Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige dialed him up to join the comic book franchise to reprise his role.
Charlie Cox Initially Thought He Lost Daredevil Forever
Although Charlie Cox reprised his role as Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home and later, in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, he couldn't see hope in ever getting his series revival.
Considering that Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin returned for his roles in Hawkeye and Echo, it was difficult to think that Marvel had no plans involving The Man Without Fear.
Cox recalled they had stopped shooting the Netflix show at the end of 2016, only to have it canceled sometime in 2018, "And then it wasn't until midway through 2020 that...

Over the years the larger Marvel world has brought about many iterations of our beloved web-slinger to live-action, with Tom Holland being the latest one to lead the role. Having won over the fans with his natural charm, Holland has quickly become a fan favorite. Many now expect the actor to give them the experience previous Spider-Man films have failed to do.

Charlie Cox revealed to People magazine that he was first contacted by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about a potential return as Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe all the way back in 2020. It would take another two years before the studio announced “Daredevil: Born Again,” although by then Cox had already popped up as the character in a cameo in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” The actor became convinced during those two years that he’d just never get his own “Daredevil” series again.
“We stopped shooting the original show at the end of 2016, beginning of 2018 and found out it was canceled somewhere in that period,” Cox said about his original stint playing Daredevil on the Netflix series of the same name, which ran for three seasons between 2015 and 2018. “And then it wasn’t until midway through 2020 that we got a phone call from Kevin saying that they were interested in bringing the characters back.

J.K. Simmons‘ portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy is iconic, but it’s a role that Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee wanted for himself. While speaking with GQ, Simmons said that Lee confessed to him that he was jealous they didn’t even ask him to play the part.
“I had never met Stan and didn’t even know, and this is kind of obvious to anyone who’s really paying attention or smarter than I am, but Jjj was kind of based on Stan, the comic version of himself,” Simmons said. “He confessed to me at the time that, you know, he was a little jealous that they didn’t ask him to play the part in the movie, but ‘having seen you do it, I thought you were fantastic.’ Very, very nice things, which obviously, coming from the man, was a great, great compliment.

Even if you’re not a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), its significance in modern cinema is undeniable. This massive, interconnected project continues to thrive, despite recent box office challenges that have concerned some fans. However, with the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, things seem to be looking up, which inspired us to compile this list.
Deadpool & Wolverine is packed with Marvel cameos, prompting us to revisit the MCU’s history of cameo appearances. We’ve ranked the 10 best cameos as of this film, detailing which movie each cameo appeared in and explaining why it deserves a spot on this epic list.
10. Sam Neill, Luke Hemsworth, and Matt Damon as Odin, Thor, and Loki (respectively)

Whether you’re not a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), you cannot deny its importance for modern cinema. This largest single-narrative project of all time is still going strong, despite the fact that the majority of its most recent outings have not been that successful at the box office, which certainly had some fans worried. But, with Deadpool & Wolverine coming out, the situation seems to be improving, and this is what actually motivated us to write up this list.
Namely, as you will probably know, Deadpool & Wolverine is filled with numerous Marvel cameos, and in light of that fact, we have decided to revisit the history of the MCU’s cameo appearances and list the 10 best ones, ranked, of course, as of Deadpool & Wolverine. We are going to tell you in which movie the cameo happened and why we think it deserves to be on this epic list of cameos.

The Oceans duo are back on the big screen in the final Wolfs trailer – a buddy crime caper from Jon Watts.
2001 called, and they want their leading men back.
That’s right, it’s the Ocean’s Eleven reunion we’ve been waiting for. Brad Pitt and George Clooney are starring as rival ‘fixers’ in Jon Watts’ first feature post-Spider-Man: No Way Home, with a title apparently stolen from Harvey Keitel’s character in Pulp Fiction.
My head hurts. Here’s the final trailer for Wolfs…
And here’s the first trailer, from earlier this year…
True to the name’s Tarantino roots, Pitt and Clooney co-star as a pair of, er, specialist cleaner-folk, both hired to dispose of the same body at the same time. Cue hijinks, a few drugs and a gunfight or two – you know the drill.
The trailer drops at an auspicious time for the big-screen action-comedy genre.

Society sure does have its preconceived notions when it comes to two people dating. In a heterosexual relationship, the man is expected to earn more, be all buffed up, be taller than the girl, and so on. I mean, it’s 2024, why couldn’t we have left all of this behind? Even actors Tom Holland and Zendaya aren’t free of these expectations people have from a couple.

In the MCU, there have been quite a lot of superheroes who feel like they are the leading, driving force of the franchise, paving the way for the story to continue its trek. But while many suspected this position to be held by the brave Captain America or the courageous Iron Man, it turns out that Marvel Studios prez Kevin Feige had been planning something different all along.

And if that wasn’t enough, backing up this is further proof through a mind-blowing fan theory that proves that Strange may as well have been this mantle holder from the beginning.

While Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman enjoy the spotlight after the titanic success of Deadpool & Wolverine, another pair of Hollywood BFFs, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, enjoy a charming life. Surrounded by beautiful people, the most gorgeous vistas on the planet, and many of the finest luxuries life offers, it’s tough to endure all that pampering and praise (he wrote with sarcasm). It’s not like they didn’t work for it. You only rise to the top of the Hollywood crop by contributing a few bangers to the industry, and you certainly only get to where these two gentlemen are if you pay a few dues. How did their lives become this way? Is their bromance the stuff of legend? What’s up with Clooney having choice words for Quentin Tarantino? Let’s find out.

After Spider-Man: No Way Home's release in 2021, Tom Holland said he wanted to take a break from playing Peter Parker. It was understandable, but the actor has since had mixed fortunes outside the MCU and would be wise to return to the role Asap.
While we know Spider-Man 4 is in the works, last year's strikes slowed things down and Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures appear have struggled to crack the story.
According to The Cosmic Circus, "There’s been a story shift for Spider-Man 4. It’s very likely that the storyline with Kingpin might be saved for post-Secret Wars. As for MCU Norman or Otto, not yet. But soon."
As you'll recall, the original idea was supposedly for Peter Parker and Daredevil to team up and battle Mayor Fisk; however, with Daredevil: Born Again now pushed to next March and season 2 unlikely to be released until after Avengers: Secret Wars,...

Charlie Cox and co. were recently at the D23 expo for an exclusive appearance of the Daredevil: Born Again cast. After the Netflix and Marvel Studios’ partnership came to an end, it also meant the end for a lot of shows that were born out of this partner. And Daredevil was one of the first ones to be canceled, that too after three very successful seasons. But fear not fans, as Marvel Studios saw the error in their ways, and are bringing the cast back together for a brand new reboot of the previous storyline.

Norman Osborn a.k.a. the Green Goblin is not just one of the most important supervillains of all time; he’s also one of the most well-known. Thanks to Willem Dafoe’s performance in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films, and in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the character’s prominence in Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequels on the PlayStation, Gobby is a recognizable baddie.
News coming out of Disney’s D23 presentation promises that the upcoming animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will offer a very different, and very compelling version of Peter Parker’s archenemy.
Norman Osborn will be voiced by Colman Domingo, the Tony and Oscar-nominated actor best known for his stunning turns in Euphoria and Rustin. Domingo will bring his significant presence and charisma to the role, helping to sell the force of personality that makes Osborn such a powerful figure in the Marvel Universe.

It's going to be the end of an era for the Sony Pictures Universe of Spider-Man Characters later this year when Venom: The Last Dance arrives in movie theaters. As referenced in its title, it will indeed be the final film in the franchise, bringing about a close to the Venom trilogy and the unusual relationship between Eddie Brock and his symbiotic other half.
There is a lot of anticipation for it, with the film's first trailer teasing an absolutely bonkers spectacle that looks to push the boundaries of craziness in ways that even the Venom franchise has yet to do. These movies, though not critics' favorites, are hugely popular with fans, so it will no doubt be a bittersweet experience seeing it come to an end with Venom 3.
Now, a new rumor suggests that fans of another Spidey franchise might want to go see this one as well.

If money is the root of all evil, the following movies are the baddest of the bad. These money-making behemoths are the only ones in U.S. history to have crossed the $500 million mark at the domestic box office. Among them are all three of the most recent “Star Wars” episodes plus a whole collection of Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks.
There is exactly one original film in the line-up (“Avatar”) and only a single true story (“Titanic”), and both just happen to be directed by James Cameron. The rest of the films, as you’d expect, are reboots, remakes and sequels. One of most recent additions is Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” (2023), which is the most successful film to ever be directed by a woman.

We knew Deadpool and Wolverine was well on its way to hitting $1 billion, and Marvel Studios' first R-rated movie has now officially passed that huge global box office milestone.
After taking in $495 million domestically along with $535 million from international markets, the Shawn Levy-directed superhero team-up has amassed $1.03 billion worldwide, which means it's now just days away from passing Joker’s $1.06 billion haul to become the highest-grossing R-rated film in history.
This also makes Deadpool and Wolverine the second highest-grossing movie of 2024 after Disney's Inside Out 2, and the first MCU instalment to hit $1 billion since Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Marvel Studios has not been having the easiest time of things recently, with its last few movies underperforming (The Marvels actually ended up being the studio's lowest-grossing film) amid mixed/negative reviews. If there wasn't already plans in place to have Logan (Hugh Jackman) and the...

Disney/Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” has achieved its destiny, joining “Joker” as the second R-rated film to gross $1 billion at the global box office.
The film needed three weekends to reach that milestone, grossing a strong $54 million domestically this weekend to bring its total to $494 million in North America and an estimated $535 million overseas. With $1.02 billion grossed, Disney is the first studio ever to have back-to-back releases reach $1 billion, as Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” crossed that mark last month and will pass $1.6 billion in the coming week.
At this pace, exhibitor sources estimate that “Deadpool & Wolverine” is currently on pace to clear at least $1.4 billion in global grosses. That would be enough to clear the unadjusted theatrical runs of megahits like “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Black Panther,” “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and even “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

The world was introduced to Matt Murdock aka Daredevil back in 2003 when Ben Affleck starred in a film of the same name. Things changed when Charlie Cox put on the red suit and Netflix released the first season of Daredevil in 2015.

The first season found huge success as the world loved Cox’s portrayal of Matt Murdock. Soon after, two more seasons found their way into production all the while introducing iconic characters like The Punisher and Bullseye in the mix. However, a betrayal was evident.

We just learned some web-tastic news at D23, when Marvel announced their upcoming animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Initially thought to be taking place in the MCU, the show was later announced to be a sort of multiverse show, like What If… ? But hold on! That’s not the most interesting thing about it. The real surprise came when they announced Colman Domingo would voice Norman Osborn.
Colman Domingo as Bayard Rustin in Rustin | Higher Ground Production
Created by Jeff Trammell, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will take the web-slinger back to high school and put a twist to the storyline. Exploring what it would be like if Norman Osborn was Peter Parker’s mentor, instead of Iron Man, the upcoming show is set to deliver some epic stuff. More than anything, with Colman Domingo playing Osborn aka Green Goblin, the show is set to have more eyes on it.

Tobey Maguire has enjoyed the reigning title of being the best live-action Spider-Man for a long time. Uncontested on that front, however, there is market competition. With the added performances of Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland, the audience is severely divided as to which actor best captured the essence of the wall-crawler.

However, the question is a bit difficult to tackle. Tobey Maguire completely embodied the soul and selfless spirit of Spider-Man and his heroic journey, while Andrew Garfield brought to life a more honest comic-accurate version of the superheroʼs quirkier and happy-go-lucky nature. Tom Holland became the only one of the three to ever truly depict Spider-Man as he was originally meant to be: a teenager thrust into the world of great power and responsibility way too soon.
While fans continue to debate the validity of each of these versions,...
