When it comes to filming back-to-back projects, one could do worse than swapping out Byron Bay for the Great Ocean Road.
Such was the scenario for young actress Savannah La Rain, who went from shooting Tyler Atkins’ debut feature Bosch and Rockit with Luke Hemsworth in the second half of 2020 to riding waves in regional Victoria earlier this year for upcoming Netflix young adult series Surviving Summer.
The 16-year-old told If the transition was a case of art imitating life.

2012′s Toronto International Film Festival is set to officially announce its initial line-up later today, but Variety let the cat out of the bag, at least partially; and it’s quite astounding. Most of our most-anticipated films of the year will be premiering at the Canadian festival, notably Terrence Malick‘s To the Wonder, Wachowskis & Tom Tykwer‘s epic-sounding Cloud Atlas, Rian Johnson‘s Looper (which will open the fest), Ben Affleck‘s Argo, Dereck Cianfrance‘s The Place Beyond the Pines and much, more more.
Coming from Sundance, the only mentioned film was Ben Lewis‘ John Hawkes-starring The Sessions, while Cannes premieres include Matteo Garrone‘s Reality, Thomas Vinterberg‘s The Hunt, Pablo Larrain‘s No and Jacques Audiard‘s Rust and Bone. One of the biggest surprises is a new film from Noah Baumbach, starring Greta Gerwing titled Frances Ha. There’s also The Avengers director Joss Whedon...

Hilary Duff proudly shows off her baby bump, that has a Christmas present painting on it. The mom-to-be shared it in a twitpic on Friday, December 23 with a caption that read, "Happy holidays from the three of us!! @HaylieK what would I do without you and your artistic ways!"
The actress, who played the titular character in "According to Greta", was seen donning a Santa hat while rocking a white rolled up t-shirt which flaunted her growing belly. The wife of Mike Comrie was snapped giving her best smile and peace sign as she stood next to a Christmas tree.

As she says later in our interview, Hilary Duff likes a good challenge. The number of former child and teen stars who manage to sustain their success into their twenties, as Duff undeniably has, are few enough already, but even rarer are those who then develop into serious adult actors. And, in this writer's opinion, Duff's strongest onscreen work to date is hitting theaters this week, with her nuanced turn as a good-hearted, but troubled, teen in the Southern gothic family drama Bloodworth.

Evan Ross is on the road to becoming a quietly explosive actor. Given the right material, Ross could have a shot at an Oscar or Emmy, although a Spirit award is more likely in the near future. I enjoyed him as a stuttering swimmer in Pride, an aspiring chef in According to Greta and a runaway teen in Gardens of the Night. In Mooz-lum, Ross plays a Muslim-American college freshman who faces adversity from his peers and family. I haven't seen it yet but the story looks enticing.

"Chuck" is not stopping any sooner to invite notable guest stars into its season 4. The Greta storyline where a different actor would portray the master of disguise each week has enabled the show to tap Olivia Munn, Stacy Keibler and Isaiah Mustafa so far. And the show has just scored a jackpot with Summer Glau.
Known to nerds as the sexy and friendly terminator in "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", Glau would take over Greta in the eighth episode which would air sometime in November. Since "Ttscc" was canceled, Glau herself has taken a part on NBC's new series "The Cape". But she won't need to do promotional appearance any sooner for it is reserved for midseason 2011.
On another casting news from NBC, Hilary Duff is paying "Community" a visit as one of the "Mean Girls". Entertainment Weekly heard from a source that Duff would be the queen bee in the rivalry against the Scoobies.

Although she is over the moon with her engagement to NHL star boyfriend Mike Comrie, Hilary Duff is definitely not happy that paparazzi managed to steal some shots of his proposal to her. "It was awful," the 22-year-old said told Hollywood Life on Wednesday, March 10 about her thoughts over the candid photos. "We had no idea they were there, it was weird."
The former "Lizzie McGuire" star also expressed what she had in mind on the particular photo that sees her taking pics of her engagement ring to be sent to her mother. At the Samsung 3D Led TV launch event at the Time Warner Center in NYC, she said, "I hated that I was taking a picture of my ring and sending it to my mom!"
When asked about her future wedding, the leading lady of "According to Greta" admitted to In Touch magazine that no wedding date has been set just yet.

Hilary Duff has on February 19 confirmed her engagement to hockey player boyfriend Mike Comrie without disclosing any details, but several newly-released pictures have uncovered the actual proposal. Some photos capture that the NHL star got down on one knee on the balcony of their room at the Four Seasons Resort in Maui on Thursday, February 18.
Those pictures expose that Hilary was caught by surprise by the marriage proposal as well. One other photo in particular show the 22-year-old songstress sharing her happy news to others. In the picture, she was seen standing on the balcony while texting photos of her engagement ring to friends and family.
Sister Haylie Duff shared to People magazine that the "According to Greta" actress was "completely surprised" by the proposal. On February 20 before having her birthday bash at Hard Rock Hotel's Vanity Nightclub in Las Vegas, she said, "I don't think that happens all the time.

For the most part, it's a week where mediocre to terrible theatrical releases are getting dumped to DVD, but you may still find a few things of interest on store shelves today. In addition to poorly-reviewed crap like Gamer, Pandorum and Whiteout, there is also the Ricky Gervais comedy The Invention of Lying, and a pair of decent documentaries in Outrage and No Impact Man. Also out this week is the Criterion release of Steven Soderbergh's 4-hour epic Che, plus Season 5 of Weeds and Magnolia on Blu-ray. Will you be picking up anything on DVD or Blu-ray this week? Pandorum [1] (+ Blu-ray [2]) The Invention of Lying [3] (+ Blu-ray [4]) Gamer [5] (+ Blu-ray [6]) Whiteout [7] (+ Blu-ray [8]) Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins' Ball [9] (+ Blu-ray [10]) According to Greta [11] (+ Blu-ray [12]) Across The Hall [13] (+ Blu-ray [14]) Blood Creek [15] Death in Love [16] (+ Blu-ray [17]) Che: Criterion Collection [18] (+ Blu-ray [19]) Outrage [20] No Impact Man [21] Artie Lange: Jack and Coke [22] (+ Blu-ray [23]) Weeds: Season Five [24] (+ Blu-ray [25]) Damages:...

Hilary Duff continues her quest to grow up from Lizzie McGuire to big-girl actress, following her sexy "Reach Out" video last year (still love that "Personal Jesus" sample) and her threesome-gone-awry on Gossip Girl this fall. Now she's completing the "take me seriously" trifecta with a leading role in the oh-so-indie According to Greta (releasing Friday), about a 17-year-old girl who arrives at her grandparents' place on the Jersey Shore for the summer and promptly announces to them that she's planning to kill herself by the time she turns 18. Hilary Duff’s new film According to Greta hits theaters on Dec. 11 and EW has an exclusive look at the trailer. She plays troubled 17-year-old Greta, who is forced by her mom (Melissa Leo) to spend the summer with her elderly grandparents (Ellen Burstyn and Michael Murphy) in a Jersey Shore town. But Greta has a summer romance -- with a busboy (Evan Ross) -- that cheers her up, even if her grandparents don't approve. Maybe this bratty/mopey role (shot in 2007) would seem more shocking had we not recently witnessed Duff involved in a threesome on Gossip Girl. Still,...
