I saw this last month at the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films. This a story about a bright 10 year old girl, Kate Dewey (Julia de Angelo) who lives with her mother Rebecca (Maria Hinkle) and is computer savvy as she helps her father Paul (James LeGros) with his his office work. Her office work in sending off correspondence letter for her father is of course more suited for an adult than a child and the father treats her like an adult in his frequent use of blue language. walking home from school one day a man named Greg Pierson (David Warshofsky) she doesn't know but claims to be a friend of her father offers her a ride. To deflect her concerns he says he doesn't have candy to offer her and instead gives her a tin a Sucrets. Stage and film actress Kristina Lear makes her writing and directorial debut on a fellowship from Workshop for Women at AFI. Excellent cinematography from Jayson Crothers and editing from Vincent Oresman. This film is filled with tension from beginning to end and leaves you with a disturbed feeling. A strong cast and promising directorial debut and a good looking film but I didn't like the story. I would give it a 7.0 out of 10.
