French actor Jalil Lespert draws a grim portrait about simmering tensions in a family life.
These days it has become a trend in European as well as world cinema to depict conflicts within a family setup in order to reveal larger humane issues. This is also the case with "24 Mesures" as we are shown what kind of relationships are formed when family members are in conflict with each other. In his first film as director, young French actor Jalil Lespert has chosen to depict four ordinary figures of a turbulent society.External appearance of his figures suggest that they are strong personalities but their vulnerabilities are revealed upon deep introspection of their inner motives. The tone of the film is dark and harsh even though it is set around a time of Christmas season which is considered as one of the most happiest of times to be spent with families and friends.A viewer must have a good idea of various associations depicted in the film to comprehend characters' emotional dilemmas. One the one hand, chance association is acceptable as it helps one character to go towards a different one. However, creative association is rather ordinary as apart from protagonists' family tensions there is nothing which is able to bind this film in unison.
