Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong first established their "wastoid" characters while working together in a Canadian improv troupe in the late 1960s. They first found success performing as "Cheech & Chong" as the opener for a touring bad. The story goes that Cheech & Chong were so funny, the band never came on stage. They began releasing their best bits on comedy albums starting with 1971's "Cheech and Chong," a must-have for comedy record collectors. Their bits were played by hip DJs, and they appeared regularly on "The Dr. Demento Show."
Their success was helped by a growing drug culture in the early 1970s. Cheech & Chong were stoners through and through, and their jokes hit harder for those who were under the influence. Those who are inexperienced with marijuana may not find Cheech & Chong terribly funny. The stoner shtick has continued to the present day, and now Marin and Chong have...

With its list of new releases for May 2023, Amazon Prime Video is increasing its global reach.
The streamer’s biggest original offering this month is a German series. Hohlbeins’ – The Gryphon, based on the works of Wolfgang Holhlbein, will present a sprawling fantasy tale about three teens discovering a fantastical world called The Black Tower where “the Gryphon, a world-devouring monster, mercilessly subjugates all living creatures.”
The only other original title of note in May is Freevee comedy Primo on the 19th. Written by author and journalist Shea Serrano and produced by Michael Schur (The Good Place), this coming-of-age series will follow a teenager balancing “college aspirations, societal expectations, and a hectic home life on the south side of San Antonio.”
And that’s pretty much it for Amazon Originals this month! Thankfully, there is a huge influx of library content to keep Prime Video subscribers entertained. May 4 sees the...

There’s a load of great content coming to Netflix in November, but just as is always the case, there are also a bunch of titles being removed from the streaming service at the same time. Next month, the platform is losing 53 movies and TV shows. There are some classics amongst them, too, unfortunately, so you might want to fit in a last minute rewatch before they vanish from Netflix’s library.
On the first day of November, four titles are being removed, including horror remake Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, children’s animated sequel Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil and Gerard Butler action movie Olympus Has Fallen. 2017 horror Death House is also leaving on the 4th, while drama Into the Forest departs Netflix on the 6th and Jamie Foxx vehicle Sleepless is among those disappearing the following day.
Here’s the full list of everything leaving in November:...

The Weinstein Company cannot catch a break these days. I think the only good bit of news they've received within the last year came by way of award nominations for Inglourious Basterds and even then their best film of 2009 only won a handful of the trophies it was up for. So what's the latest bad news to heap itself onto TWC's already heaving stockpile of bad news? They're getting sued by the studio who made Hoodwinked, the 2005 CGI-animated film that put a new spin on the tale of Little Red Riding Hood, for their failure to live up to contractual obligations for the sequel.
Variety is reporting that Kanbar Entertainment is taking up legal arms against TWC for delaying the release of Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil from its original date of January 15th to some indeterminate date in the future. Their suit further alleges that the distributor did not...

- A mix of genre specific fair and a couple of indie titles that automatically caught my attention, The Weinstein Company aren't flashing any cards in the festival comp portion, but they have a cool slate of market offerings in post production with noteworthy titles such as All Good Things from Andrew Jarecki, Youth in Revolt from Miguel Arteta and a 3D Piranha movie from horror helmer Alaxandre Aja.
