Whenever an actor decides to take on a role that seems outside their wheelhouse, audiences are always quick to judge. It's hard for them to believe a "good guy" actor can play a terrifying villain, or a character actor could shine in a blockbuster. However, to anyone familiar with the craft, it's no surprise that some of the best performances in cinema can come from an actor proving they contain multitudes.
People particularly like to commend comedians who excel at drama, like Adam Sandler in "Uncut Gems" or Seth Rogen in "Steve Jobs." But what about when a dramatic actor takes on a comedy? In some ways, this can be an even harder lift. After all, dying is easy. Comedy is hard. We've seen certain actors attempt to be funny alongside seasoned comedians, and, well, the results can be a mixed bag. But these performances we've assembled here prove that,...

Prepare your armor, reader: This article contains spoilers for "Ironheart" season 1, episode 3, "We in Danger, Girl."
For viewers who haven't paid attention to casting announcements, "Ironheart" has some fun surprises. Early on, Eric André pops up as Stuart Clarke, a tech specialist who has some serious difficulties getting liftoff for his chosen codename, Rampage. Later, we meet Alden Ehrenreich, who plays Joe McGillicuddy -- a suburban "Live, Laugh, Love" nerd who somehow has the funds and connections to maintain a secret bunker full of highly illegal weapons technology.
From the very beginning, it's clear that something's off about ol' Joe for the aforementioned reason, as well as the fact that it's Ehrenreich playing him. While the actor does a great job portraying Joe's meekness, nervous energy, and general social ineptitude, it's hard to shake off the feeling that you don't cast an actor with his pedigree -- the man played Han Solo once,...

Romantic comedies often draw from the classics, but who would have thought that Dakota Johnson’s latest movie, Materialists, would take some elements from Tom Cruise’s Jerry Maguire? The 1996 sports dramedy is wildly different from the movie it inspired, but both explore the tension between transactional success and emotional authenticity.
They prove that whether you are negotiating endorsements or bringing two people together, the heart of the story is always a human connection. So, here’s how Jerry Maguire and two other mega-starrers unknowingly shaped Materialists.

A24 recently publicized their references for Materialists on X (formerly Twitter), and revealed that Jerry Maguire shaped the professional aspect of its character, which could be Dakota Johnson’s Lucy, who shares a few similarities with Tom Cruise’s Jerry because they are both high-stakes intermediaries.

Channing Tatum, a natural athlete who found that college was not to his liking, moved to Tampa in his teens to work construction and found an outside gig as a male stripper at night. To Tatum's credit, he never denied his stripping gig but instead turned it into artistic gold (years after he became an actor) with a hit franchise you may have heard about: "Magic Mike" (2012), "Magic Mike Xxl" (2015) and "Magic Mike's Last Dance" (2023).
After being discovered by a talent scout, Tatum started his career with small movie parts until he snagged the lead in "Step Up," (2006), a successful dance/romance mash-up. Tatum's looks and athleticism, as well as his dancing and acting skills attracted casting directors, who began to place him in bigger and bigger films.
With Tatum's skills, that led to films with better and better directors, a list that any actor would envy -- Michael Mann...

There’s no limit of impressive cameos in “The Studio,” Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s love-hate letter to Hollywood. But out of all the A-list guest stars, there was one who really stunned Rogen: Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese.
“Scorsese was very impressive and a very funny performer — like legitimately funny — and was really firing on all cylinders,” Rogen told TheWrap.
Scorsese appears in the first episode of “The Studio” as himself. After Matt Remick (Rogen) is thrust into his dream job following the unceremonious ousting of his mentor Patty (Catherine O’Hara), the pressure is on for him to make his first movie a hit. John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara are two legends of Hollywood’s Golden Age who starred in five movies together, the most acclaimed of which is John Ford’s 1952 classic The Quiet Man. Wayne and Irish actor O’Hara first worked together in Ford’s Western romance Rio Grande two years earlier, when their on-screen chemistry quickly became apparent. But it was only with follow-up collaboration The Quiet Man that their acting partnership really came into its own.
The film features a rare comic turn from Wayne as Irish-American boxer “Trooper Thorn” Thornton, who moves to rural Ireland to manage his family’s homestead. O'Hara plays Thornton's love interest, whose brother he must fight in one of John Wayne's best fight scenes to win her hand in marriage. Certain directors will always pique the interest of any fan of cinema. Names like Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan, and David Fincher bring excitement and anticipation without even a shred of information about their next film. The Coen Brothers are no different. These Minnesota-born siblings spent their teenage years absorbing everything they could about filmmaking. During their decades-spanning partnership, they've created films in every conceivable genre: screwball comedies, neo-noir, and yes, even the gangster picture.
Some of the Coen Brothers' genre experiments have turned out better than others, but to their eternal credit, their batting average is incredibly high. For every Hail, Caesar!, there are, generally speaking, three all-time classics such as No Country for Old Men, True Grit, and Inside Llewyn Davis. As good as each of those films is, the Coen Brothers' most underrated movie is Miller's Crossing a forgotten gangster film from early on in their career capable of rivaling the genre's best.

Roberto Orci, a screenwriter on the “Star Trek” and “Transformers” franchises, was accused in a lawsuit Monday of repeatedly beating and sexually assaulting his wife.
Adele Heather Taylor, an actor in “The Blacklist,” “Hail, Caesar!” and more, alleges in the suit that Orci was bipolar, an alcoholic and would fly into violent rages. She alleges that he would call her a “slut,” a “whore” and would drag her around the house and beat her, leaving bruises all over her body.
In May 2022, she alleges that Orci chased her into the garden and pinned her down on the ground and threatened to rape her. The following month, she alleges that he sexually assaulted her in the garden, telling her, “You enjoy being raped.”
She also alleges that Orci called the police on her in April 2020, after she had tried to fight him off, and that she was arrested for domestic abuse.

George Clooney has beef with director Quentin Tarantino.
If you don’t know, the pair actually go way back after co-starring in the 1996 movie From Dusk Till Dawn together.
But a recent interview Quentin did rubbed George the wrong way.
Keep reading to find out more…
George shared with GQ, “Quentin said some sh-t about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him. He did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about [Brad Pitt], and somebody else, and then this guy goes, ‘Well, what about George?’ He goes, he’s not a movie star. And then he literally said something like, ‘Name me a movie since the millennium.’ And I was like, ‘Since the millennium? That’s kind of my whole f-cking career.’”

Although Channing Tatum is considered one of the best-looking actors in modern Hollywood, there’s more to him than just his pleasant appearance.
After he struggled to find a job in his twenties, Tatum eventually stumbled into the acting world by chance, leading to a fruitful and prolific career.

It’s hard to put into words the kind of the disappointment that comes with realising that one of your favourite filmmakers has made a truly terrible movie. That realisation hit me approximately 10 minutes into Drive-Away Dolls, the new film by one half of acclaimed filmmaking duo The Coen Brothers.
Alongside his brother Joel, Ethan Coen has given us more than 4 decades of brilliant films ranging from quirky black comedies – A Serious Man, Hail, Caesar!, Inside Llewyn Davis – to beautifully devised crime capers – Blood Simple, No Country for Old Men and True Grit being just a few – but recently the prolific brothers took a break from working together. This resulted in Joel Coen’s multi-awarded nominated The Tragedy of Macbeth in 2021, and the soon to be released chaotic lesbian sexploitation comedy Drive-Away Dolls from his brother Ethan.

Paramount’s “Bob Marley: One Love” will retain its holding as the top film on domestic charts this weekend, besting a trio of new releases in the manga adaptation “Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba — To the Hashira Training,” the faith-based Hilary Swank drama “Ordinary Angels” and Ethan Coen’s lesbian crime caper “Drive-Away Dolls.”
“One Love” added $3.7 million to its domestic haul on Friday, marking a modest 51% drop from its gross seven days ago. After opening on Valentine’s Day, the Bob Marley biopic has now earned a solid $61 million across its first 10 days in North American theaters. To compare against genre contemporaries, it’s pacing a bit ahead of the $50 million that “Rocketman” earned in 2019 across the same period of time, and a chunk behind 2022’s “Elvis,” which nabbed $66 million in 10 days. Worldwide, “One Love” has now surpassed $100 million.
Crunchyroll and Sony’s release of the new “Demon Slayer” entry looks to take silver.

The Coen Brothers are some of the most incredible filmmakers currently working. Throughout their prolific career, they've been nominated for thirteen Academy Awards and won four of them. They're known primarily for their ability to write cross-genre films and even won the Palm d'Or for their film Barton Fink back in 1991.
However, their remarkable writing skills are what set them apart from the rest of the industry. They have such a unique voice, often marked by repetition of the same lines for comedic effect and powerfully distinct characters. This leads their movies to be some of the most quotable in the recent past.

The Coen brothers broke up four years ago, and it has taken them a while to come out with solo albums that define their identities. In 2021, Joel Coen directed “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” which was a dazzling black-and-white pastiche of a Shakespeare drama. It was well-done but felt like a one-off, a decision by Coen to serve the material. One year later, Ethan Coen came out with “Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind,” a small-scale rock ‘n’ roll documentary that he made during the pandemic; it was a YouTube clip job, and on those terms expertly crafted — but even after Jerry Lee died (five months after the film’s Cannes premiere), it took ages for the film to be released.
Now, though, we finally have a Coen movie in which one of the brothers puts his solo stamp on filmmaking. “Drive-Away Dolls,” directed by Ethan Coen, is a crime-speckled road-trip...

He sings and he dances! But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t work. Timothée Chalamet had a three-month dance boot camp to prepare for “Wonka” — but luckily veteran choreographer Christopher Gattelli was there to guide him.
“The first lesson I had with him was actually in May of 2021. He was shooting ‘Bones and All’ at the time, and he came in with like this shocking red magenta hair and like super, super skinny Timmy and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s not what I was expecting.'” But Gattelli pointed out that with Chalamet’s famous background at Laguardia High School, it wasn’t like starting from scratch. “And he has really great rhythm, so it wasn’t hard for him to pick it up.”
“Boot camp” sounds like Gattelli turned into the kind of strict dance instructor who terrifies his students, when in reality he’s warm and quick to laugh,...

Fair Play is a 2023 thriller film written and directed by Chloe Domont. The film stars Phoebe Dynevor, Alden Ehrenreich, Eddie Marsan, and Rich Sommer.
“Fair Play” is a movie about ambition and how a professional relationship can affect a romantic relationship. In every place, there is an expression for this that ultimately recommends the same thing: not mixing love and work.
It’s difficult not to do so when, as in this case, both protagonists work ten hours a day and have no time for anything else but the company.
Plot
Emily and Luke are engaged, attractive, and have a promising future. There’s only one problem: they work at the same company, and company protocol doesn’t accept it. The problem arises when she gets promoted and he slowly starts losing his position in the complex corporate organization.

“Cobweb”, Kim Jee-woon's tenth feature film, marks the director's return to comedy for the first time since the beginning of his career. This satire on the film industry is a true cinematic layer cake: one can dig into it with hearty bites for the sheer pleasure of the visual feast, or one can peel it apart, layer by layer, to unveil a fascinating portrayal of the dark period of Korean history in the 1970s and a profound introspection by the director on creativity and the filmmaking profession.
Kim Jee-woon began his career in the 1990s as an actor and a theater director before directing his debut feature film, “The Quiet Family”, in 1998. He is part of a new generation of filmmakers, along with Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook, who no longer followed the traditional apprenticeship model of old studios, but are authentic cinephiles who came to cinema out of pure passion.

Something I think a lot of film and television fans forget is how everyone who helps create those films and shows are just going to their jobs like any other person. Just like everybody else, a work-life balance needs to be struck in order to live a fulfilling life. Not everything an actor, director, writer, or any other cinematic professional does is in service of the business. They go on vacations, go home to their parents' house for Thanksgiving, have relationships, and decide to have children.
Chances are good that someone in your office has been pregnant and only stopped coming in when they went into labor. In terms of the day-to-day work life of pregnant people, not much changes, aside from it maybe taking a little more effort to do things than usual.
