The Please Don’t Destroy guys set their sights on spoofing The Voice this week by having Shane Gillis play a singer they’d very much like to forget.
Ego Nwodim joined Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy as coaches on the fictitious show The Sound. Nwodim played R&b model Coco Summers, Higgins was pop producer Mikey Fiesta Marshall was country swinger Cody Swiggums, and Herlihy played rock icon Eddie Thrashhorn in the bit that employed the requisite revolving chairs and red buttons.
The foursome were immediately bowled over when they hear an angelic version of “Amazing Grace” — only to turn around to find Shane Gillis as a red-haired, scooter-driving hillbilly named Reggie doing the singing.
“Let the bidding war begin,” he declared. “Who wants me?”
The coaches immediately turn back their chairs.

What’s the deal with the film Academy’s documentary branch? This season’s shortlist for the best documentary feature Oscar, released Dec. 17, was missing one of the year’s most acclaimed crowd-pleasers, Warner Bros.’ Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story — which is at 98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, won the top Critics Choice documentary award and is nominated for the Producers Guild’s top doc award — and also impressive documentaries about Martha Stewart (Martha), Celine Dion (I Am: Celine Dion), James Carville (Carville: Winning Is Everything, Stupid) and John Williams (Music by John Williams), among others.
This isn’t to say that the 15 docs that were shortlisted are lacking — to the contrary, most are excellent. But it does reconfirm the doc branch’s weird aversion, over roughly the past decade, to populist titles.
During that period, the branch declined to shortlist Good Night Oppy, a charmer about a Wall-e-like Mars...

This week, Elton John’s “Tammy Faye” musical closed on Broadway after only 24 previews and 29 regular performances. Although the show, about the rise and fall of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, concluded its run on Dec. 8 as the Rocket Man’s worst-performing musical in New York following blockbuster successes “The Lion King,” “Billy Elliot: The Musical,” and “Aida,” “Tammy Faye” is hardly the only original musical with a religious theme to shutter unceremoniously in the past decade-plus. With the notable exception of “The Book of Mormon,” with its nine Tony Awards and 5,000 performances and counting, audiences have been singing from a different hymn sheet than these faith-based offerings.
In 2010, John’s fellow Egot champion Alan Menken brought a musical adaptation of the Steve Martin film “Leap of Faith” to Broadway with Tony nominee Raúl Esparza as the show’s conman who poses as a pastor to swindle Kansas townspeople. Despite the...

“Save the Children,” an early ’70s concert film featuring many of that era’s biggest names in Black music, was in need of some saving itself. Although the documentary featured iconic stars like the Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and Bill Withers, the movie disappeared completely off the radar after being briefly released to theaters in 1973 by Paramount Pictures, never getting an authorized home-video release, let alone revival screenings. But salvation has come, with Netflix having picked up the doc to make it available to be seen for the first time in a half-century.

Once, I was sitting in the apartment of WestBam, Germany’s iconic techno DJ, at Berlin Alexanderplatz, when Juan Atkins’ name came up. Without him, we all would be nothing — that’s how WestBam described him. I was surprised to learn that the two had never met. It was a coincidence that Juan, whom I’d met earlier, was in town that night. So we spontaneously invited him over, and 20 minutes later, he joined us for dinner. WestBam treated Juan with extreme respect.

We just finished another season in Hope Valley.
When Calls the Heart is Hallmark's longest-running series, and when dramas last that long, they often run into issues with creativity slumps and extensively massive casts.
When Calls the Heart Season 11 felt lackluster. The wrong arcs led the story, with only a few bright spots sprinkled in.
While the dual strikes didn't affect the series, they still crammed too much content into 12 episodes. The cast has grown and evolved, and it's challenging to cover everyone's stories accordingly.
The rotating arcs became tiresome, mainly when some characters were prominently featured one week but might only appear for a few minutes in the next few episodes.

It also had to deal with the aftermath of Lucas's shooting, Lucas and Elizabeth's break-up, and bringing Elizabeth and Natan together respectfully.

Sometimes, we crave another chance, while we run away from it other times.
On When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 8, Tom Thornton attempted to make amends to those from whom J.B. Sweeney had conned money, and Joseph and Jacob Canfield settled a 20-year-long grudge.
Rosemary and Bill also met with Clayton Pike to clarify his name.
Even though the NYC police arrested J.B. Sweened and recovered the money that Ned wired them, Tom could still be charged as an accessory to fraud unless he paid back the money he owed Benson Hills and Jameson.
Tom was willing to take responsibility, but everyone stood behind, most of all Nathan and Elizabeth.
They formulated a plan to host their own choir festival with neighboring towns and collect donations.
Everyone was on board. The problem was Rosemary was so excited that she spilled the beans to Mayor Hickman, who wanted Tom arrested immediately.

Superman has faced bizarre and sometimes forgettable villains like the Hobby Robber and Mummer, who quickly faded into obscurity. Characters like Amazing Grace and Microwave Man, while interesting, were ultimately short-lived and largely forgotten. Sand Superman, Metallo, The Adversary, Titano the Super Ape, and Mother Goose are examples of strange villains Superman has encountered.
Superman has existed for almost a hundred years, and over time, he's gathered some absolutely fantastic villains. But the Man of Steel has also gathered some truly weird rogues over those same decades. While Superman fans will always recount Superman's battles against Doomsday and Lex Luthor, not as many are familiar with once Superman's arch-foe, the Hobby Robber.
While Superman has had some iconic villains, he also has a long list of completely forgettable villains, especially from the Golden and Silver Ages of comics. From a woman who commits crimes based on nursery rhymes to a man who steals people's hobbies,...

As well as empowering women filmmakers in Australia, the production shows what Fennessy is currently dedicated to – creating premium Australian content and finding the resources to take it to the next level to compete internationally with its rival Anglo markets.
“The feedback from buyers I’ve spoken to pre-Mipcom has been really strong,” said the veteran Australian television executive who is readying several other projects for the streamers in Australia, as well as Season 2 of the hit “Last King of the Cross” for Paramount +.

Katharine McPhee and David Foster dropped a seven-track Christmas album last year and now they’re releasing a finished version of the album this year!
The married couple has released “Amazing Grace” as the first single from the full album, which will drop on October 20. Pre-order now on iTunes!
“We haven’t recorded together in 17 years so we thought it might be time to do it again! Kat has the most beautiful voice and she doesn’t know how to deliver less than a perfect vocal every time! When you make Christmas music, you literally get a free pass to do whatever you like-the freedom for me as a producer was so much fun – no pressure,” David said in a statement last year while announcing the first half of the album.
The new album will feature seven more songs, including “Amazing Grace” with The Tabernacle Choir.

The musical duo sat down with Et and gave an update on their current tour and family life!
Katharine McPhee and David Foster are enjoying the perks of touring together, their new single “Amazing Grace” — which is set to be released tomorrow, Oct. 6 — and being parents!
Et got an exclusive sneak peek at McPhee and Foster’s debut single together, which caused a bit of back and forth between them when it came to deciding on having it on the album.
“We argued a little bit, not in the bad way,” McPhee tells Et. “It’s a bit of a debate over whether we should do ‘Amazing Grace’ because I said, ‘It’s not a Christmas song, it’s a religious song.’ The label ended up actually really liking it because we’re using it as our first single to kind of get out there, kind of earlier before the...
